You've not failed, you've had a hiccup. I had many of them, and even in this quit I smoked 5 cigarettes over a period of a month (my OH and I had split up and I was moving out). Pick yourself up and carry on.

And HUGS!!! Don't do yourself down xxx

Hi sailorswife, so sorry to hear about your predicament, that sounds really painful. It's good to have the productive cough, certainly...get all the rubbish out. Try some steam in the room to help you; pop a bowl of near boiling water as low as possible so it's inhaled gently, it'll relieve the cough, but still keep things coming out. After 9 days though you honestly are on the winning side so whatever you do - don't cave in! If you haven't been taking plenty of water then do so, keep some close to you. Keep as active as is possible for you and keep busy with whatever hobby appeals. Try to get some "Bach's Rescue Remedy" from your chemist and take as directed - ir helps a lot with the panic attacks and will calm you down in general. You're doing brilliantly and even though you're feeling rubbishy - the time passed shows you're doing yourself so proud - be chuffed at all you've achieved and stay strong! All the best and keep in touch with us.

A very warm welcome to the thread, sheep-Ali and congratulations on 19 days which is amazing after 50 a day!! :T:T Use water to help fight the food intake and keep yourself as busy as possible. Plenty of fruit (apples and oranges) and veg, especially sliced carrots and celery sticks to nibble at will help with the eating problems a great deal.

Congratulations Penelope, you're doing brilliantly!!!! :T:T It honestly doesn't seem THAT long ago since you came on here wanting to quit - and now look at how far you've come! Keep the bloody-mindedness up Penelope, it's serving you sooo well!!

A very warm welcome to the thread, BigMog, congratulations to you too on being almost 3 weeks free of all that smoke, nicotine and chemicals! :T:T I think most folk could be forgiven on having turned back to smoking on the death of a loved one, so very sorry to hear about your Mum, but I'll bet she'd be so proud of you right now! To be coping and taking one day at a time is all that you can ask for, keep doing as you have been and staying strong and this may just be the last time you need give up!! All the best!

maz, it's no having failed, as I've said on here loads of times, you've had a blip and need to let it all go tomorrow and move on as if you'd not succumbed to that blessed fag. Don't look back just stay strong and go forward. Get a good night's sleep and tomorrow is a new day, the start of the future - make it count for YOU! :)

All the best to all of you here who are quitting and all those looking in, either wanting to quit or thinking about it - it CAN be done! Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

    hi everyone

sorry been MIA, still doing ok, am now starting to have more energy.

Had some sad news yesterday my brothers gf dad passed away. He had been diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas. My brother &
his gf are meant to be getting married next Friday as she wanted her dad to give her away, life just seems so unfair sometimes.

Well done to everyone else. I have been reading, just not had time to post.

    Take care

Hi Bigmog, welcome aboard :) well done on quitting smoking, ive heard a lot of good things about these inhalators, and am glad it is working for you.

I agree with Sue, the death of a loved one is enough to make many people return to the ciggies, but, you are giving it another go thats the important thing.

I wish you well and congratulate you on 3 smoke free weeks :T

Oh Maz, its not a fail, far from it, its a little blip, something that tomorrow wont seem as bad, as tomorrow is a new day, dust yourself off and jump back on the wagon, the good thing is that you didnt let that one ciggie become one box etc.

Hi Topsy, well done for 16 days, nice feeling aint it :)

Did you find that the energy just appeared from no where?

Life is so unfair at times, it is never nice to lose someone, but on top of a wedding makes it all the more poignant, my friend was in the same boat, he moved his wedding forward so his mum could be there, but sadly this was not to be, life is unfair, does your brother and fiance plan to continue with the wedding?

WELL DONE Kiwi, how proud of yourself are you feeling right now? a whole week...well done :j

We knew you could do it :) Here is to the next week

My euphoria at the one week mark came down with a bit of a bump, I went to the pharmacy earlier to see about getting the reduced strength patches and they have refused me them, saying I haven't been on the high dose for long enough. They phoned me a Quit Advisor and made me speak to her.

Basically they say I have to stay on the 21mg for a full 8 weeks, because I was a heavy smoker (15 per day is heavy ) and research shows........ blah, blah, blah..... that I will struggle on the lower dose. I told her that probably I should be the best judge of that but still the outcome is non-negotiable. Seven more weeks 'apparently' before I can reduce.

WHATEVVER!! It's no big deal I shall go to a different pharmacy and buy some or cut a bit off the 21mg. :rotfl: Any ideas why they specifically tell you not to cut them in half??

    Hi Maz,

You have not failed, you just hit a bump in the road. Don't be too hard on yourself as it's done now and can't be undone. Today is a completely new day and a new start. Having quit myself, I know how hard it is, but don't think too far ahead, just concentrate on one day at a time and do whatever works for you. Nobody in this life is perfect and don't ever let anyone tell you they are. Good luck for today and come onto the forum for support whenever you need it.
