Morning all - wow everyone really is doing well -

KIWI - good luck with the smaller patches - they worked for me last time I gave up smoking a few years back..

ROSS - thanks for your supportive words

SUE - again thank you. As for exercise this weekend I have done nothing but clean and scrub my house! But normally I do take my dog for a nice walk - although the watermelon feeling is making that a little sore ;)

Back to being home alone again this week - so plan is to clean remainder of house, pack hospital bag (or suitcase!!) and generally chill out!

    Happy Mondays guys :D

  • Hi chaps, would it be possible for me to join your lovely thread?

I worked out on the NHS quit site that I could be spending £73.00 a month on cigarettes!!!:eek::eek:

Thinking of making 1st Feb my stopping date.

Just working out how +73£ a month would help clear my debts!

    Hi All,

Well I have quit because I literally have NO money:(. I used up the last of my baccy yesterday and the old adage "you always find money for ciggies" did not work like it has done in the past for me. wondering if this is a sign??

I am not using any quit aids, I am going cold turkey. I have been a smoker for 12 years.. I quit for a year 4 years ago (when I was pregnant and until my son was 4 months old) and I went cold turkey then. So I reckon I can do it again :D

I could do with some first day/week advice from any of you lovely people (using quit aids or not) on how I can stop thinking about fags as its driving me round the bend !!
On a positive note I would have usually smoked 4 fags on the way to work and had 2 on a break now but haven't.. so Im pleased with that.

It's great reading the stories of people on here.. Everyone is doing so well... really spurring me on.. so thanks chaps and ladies!:T

    Welcome, Nannon and Goodgirl :hello::hello:

Nannon, re the thinking about it all the time: I did, too for a few days and decided to go with the flow. I'd think "I'll just empty the washing machine and then see how I feel." Then I'd think "OK, I can go a little bit longer, I'll just do . . . " and so on right through the first day. I really didn't think much beyond the next 15 minutes and it gradually added up till I was giving myself a pat on the back for going 1 hour, 2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours . . . and on and on. Hang on in there. Read the older posts about how people got through. Everyone has a different way of coping. Good luck. You CAN do it. :T

Goodgirl Make sure you write it down and keep a tally, or better still, get the silkquit application (link on first post in the thread). I found it a big incentive and realizing just how much I am saving is still a great thrill. If your debts are not too big, you could put most of the money to that and reserve a little for treats to reward yourself? Some people have even gone on line every day and paid the days smoking money against the debts.

Sally Well done. :T:T You are sounding so positive. How long till the big day now? If you are packing your bag, it can't be long.

Kiwi I think you are wise to take them off overnight - if you can sleep better, it has to help. Someone suggested to me that the cut off bits of patches might lose their stickiness when they have been unsealed so you could try using two small pieces on alternate days? It also means that if you decide to go on reducing quickly, you won't have wasted money on all the bits you throw away? Very MS ;)

Welcome to all the other people who have joined us on our journey. :hello::hello::hello:

and a special thanks to stclair for taking the time to come back and give us some encouragement. It really makes a difference when people do that. Congrats on your 1 year :T:T:beer:

I only get the occasional 'I'd like a cig' feeling now and it's not 'I must have a cig' just a passing thought. I'm aware that it is still early days for me but I'm just beginning to think that this is the VERY LAST TIME I will quit.:j:j
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

    Afternoon all :)

Wow Det Dawson, what do you do for work to be up and out so early??

I know when I have previously used patches, they are awful to sleep with, nightmares the lot, so I would advise taking it off prior to bed :)

Hi Kiwi, I have to agree with Tricia on the using the cut offs on alternative days, that way your not wasting patches, and the ones you have will last longer :)

I hope your finding it ok with a smaller patch on?

Welcome aboard Nannon, as you know from your previous quit, the first 3 days are the hardest, your body is craving that nicotine, Salski is right, change some of your routine, go for a walk at break time, crunch some carrot sticks, take a bath, I would also advise downloading the silkquit meter, as that way you can watch your quit progress, in time, money and fags not smoked.

Salski ... You havent got it packed already, you musty only have 2 weeks left till due date?? .. oooh just seen, its nearly 2 weeks for you :T

Hello Goodgirl80, welcome to the thread.

How do you plan to quit? cold turkey, NRT, Zyban, Champix etc, whichever way you choose im sure you will try your best, I would advise both yourself and Nannon to read through the old posts, and if you get time take a gander at threads 1 and 2 also as there are some very good hints and tips, and experiences of quitting.

I hope everyone else is having a good day??

Hi Triciaxx - I have 2 and half weeks to go. I should have packed my bags a few weeks ago - but I cant find one big enough for all the tings they tell you to take!! Haha

Welcome goodgirl! Fantastic news on thinking of giving up! I utterly agree with the above post about downloading the free silkquit tool from page one - its fantastic to see the money total and the 'cigs not smoked' number go up ;)
Good luck and keep coming back for support :)

Asked my doctor today about it and he said see the nurse. TBH I'm so desperate to save moneyI don't even want to pay the prescription charge for the patches or whatever. So I don't know. I don't think they will advise the other drugs as I only smoke <10 a day.

Thanks for your encouraging welcome xx

please can I join, i stopped smoking 9and a half weeks ago after over 30 years. so far its going well and i am thinking about it less, still feel there is something missing at times. I went to a hypnotherapist, after the first 24 hours I found it much easier this time, so I'm convinced it is helping. My main reason to want to stop is not money, although it is a complete waste, its because I don't want cancer.
