been nose to the grind stone past few days but now lokin forward to some days off:D

you'll be in great company through your smoke free journey maz a warm welcome i think if you can replace the glass in hand with a glass of water you have a chance to loose the assosiation keep your self busy and write down all the possitives leaving smoking behind will bring you to keep you motivated ..Go On Maz show it the door :)

salski it brought home to me when you mentioned reading that experiencing all different situations before you are comfortable to say i am none smoker, like when you were at ikea,

i found it strange what to do with myself when campig and putting tent up .. ( you'll be thnking is she mad and gone camping already ?? not quite but i do camp in the snow but this was before my little blip )

its the first thing i used to do once settled on site and cos i was so close to outdoors i smoked more as i didnt have to go "outside" iyswim ..its all about being prepared and being on your guard ...in time when faced with these new situations as a none smoker though you may have a fleeting thought about what you USED to do but you can laugh old nic in the face and say not anymore boy ....

it makes us stronger more determned and we shall suceed

  • Hi All

Had no cravings today so was very happy. Got used to getting up for work and going about the morning without even thinking of cigarettes. I really notice the smell on people (and children at work :() and think 'oh my, did I really smell like an ashtray all this time' :o It's now over 200 cigarettes I have NOT smoked and saved by not spending~wasting (would 'strike' that but don't know how to ;)) money on ciggies :T
I even managed to walk to and from work today, approx. 5 miles without getting out of breath and was on my feet for hours, then went on dog walk for 30 odd minutes and still breathing :)

Just sat down and read all post that I missed since yesterday, everyone an inspiration. You are all doing really well (Ellie sent you a PM). I'm proud of you all, because that way as we are all in the same boat I feel proud of myself :T (there's so many of us now we must be on the QE2 ;))

My brother did my car brakes for me today so I can use my car again :T I swear that if I had to carry on walking everywhere like I have the past few days people will not be able to see me anymore :rotfl:

Hope everyone who is having car trouble gets it all sorted very soon :) I know what a pain it is not having a car when you are use to having it, luckily I have mechanics in the family so I do sympathise (SP ?) with huge garage bills :(

    Hope you are all well

    AZ xx

    Day 12 Champix

    Hi everyone

now on day 12, can't believe I have got this far, but I sm so pleased with myself. It is only on the odd occasion now that I think about having a ciggie, but it is only a fleeting thought which goes. I am still feeling very tired so will speak to the nurse on Friday.

Ross - hope the antibiotics are working and the earache has subsided.
Determined - thank you for posting the running programme, will print it off and give it a go.
Maz - welcome the support here is great.
Az - glad you got your car sorted.

Thanks to everyone on this thread for keeping me going, it is a wonderful support system. Well done to everyone that is suceeding. Take care.
  • 363 days smoke free,

I survived by eating raw carrots knitting and my wonderful dh buying me flowers every week! I had real problems going out at night with smoking friends until it hit me, because i was constantly worried i was going give in. I soon proved i was made of stronger stuff! thursday is my 1 year marker and im going to spoil myself rotten (cheaply tho) i figure i deserve it! dont ever stop trying it took me a few attempts and a lot of tears to get where i am and the boots stop smoking service (they will give you nicotine replacement free without a doctors refferal.) Just keep up the good work!
  • night everyone - thought I'd post my silkquit stats:

(you know what I kinda don't really care about the car, of course I would much rather have all that money in my bank account than the mechanic's but I will pick up my car on wed & hopefully it should not need anymore attention other than water, oil & petrol for a while, my family are happy & healthy, I have a wonderful partner & job & I go to Morocco in 23 days - life's pretty good from where I'm sitting ;))

    Good evening all,

Firstly can I just take a moment to apologise for not being around much lately, I have been so busy with work and with uni it is unreal, but I have got 3/4 of my dissertation complete woop woop :j

I hope everyone is doing well in their non smoking journeys?

elligibbo - Having had previous attempts at quiting with patches, I would say keep the 16mg's on for the time being, as whenever i no longer fekt the irritation it soon seeped into my brain 'perhaps i dont need these' and whipped it off .... only to be smoking not long after

Hi Anna, I found that as i was approaching the one week point I felt exactly how you have described, like your just hovering around the place, doing nothing but trying to keep busy iyswim, I think this is nic's last chance to try and keep a hold on you, please dont let him :)

Hi Maz123 :hello: and a warm welcome to the thread, I hope you enjoy your time here

Wow Maz, you have shown that you can do this, the fact that you gave up for 4 months ... was that a cold turkey quit or did you have assistance?

In regards to this one as you would like to stop alcohol also, it may be worth giving some consideration to Champix ... most of the champix users found they naturally stopped alcohol too ... myself included

In regards to weight gain, that can be resolved after you have quit, as I am currently doing (plus the extra that was there before hand lol)

Wow Heretolearn, that first 16 days has flown by (although for you it probably felt longer) well done :T and your right it does get so much easier as time goes on, when i started my quit and was told that i remember sitting there thinking 'yeah right' lol

I did not realise you could get them from the chemist, I thought you had to send away for them .... although I do love the tangle that you get with it (the twisty thingy), as for the sticker, I am doing the exact same thing, its a visual reminder of how well you have done :)

Tricia, thankfully you didnt have any ciggies on you ..... phew .... it does make you sit there and think doesnt it, that just one new but old situation can make that mistake happen ... every time i go out im always on my guard from evil nic lol

Penelopee ... how was your bath? relaxing i hope ... you deserve it after 17 days smoke free :T

Salski, I am so pleased you have made it to day 9 smoke free, i bet you feel so chuffed, was your bath relaxing also? i cheated today, i had a shower couldnt be bothered to wait for the bath to fill lol

Hi Jammy ... i know the feeling of nose to the grindstone this week lol

I have to ask ..... is camping in the snow fun? (having only camped in the summer myself)

Az ... I glad your car is sorted, and I know what you mean about smelling the smoke on others, quite disheartening when you smell it on kids though ... terrible to think we used to smell like that, I can always tell when someone has not long been puffing too, smells awful!!! also its a nice feeling when you do something and dont get out of breath :j

Hi Topsy, you are doing so well in your quit, you should be so proud of yourself, the fleeting thoughts are a strange little thing arent they, kind of I know what it is, but i dont remember it

The anti biotics are finally starting to kick in, so hopefully should be able to get some sleep tonight, and hopefully my hearing back soon .... I hate ear infections, but sadly i get about 5 a year .... should be used to them by now lol

Dawemouse ... :j:T:j:T:j:T what more can I say ... well done, tell me, how does it feel to reach the year? I long to reach that goal, just think of how much healther you and your bank balance are :)

You know determined, i completely agree with you, the health of my family and i are more important than anything else, and i would rather spend the money on fixing my car than burning it through fags :)

p.s. take me with you :rotfl:

Hey all, hope you're all managing to stick with it. It's almost the end of another day for me, no abnormalities to report, sleeping fine but it's not abnormal for me to wake a couple of times a night and I'm still terrified that Nasty Nic might start messing with my head when I do wake and I'm willing myself to get back to sleep asap.

I had an overwhelming slump in energy in the middle of the morning, I suddenly felt so tired with tears in my eyes; just literally for a few minutes but it soon passed.

The very same feeling I had yesterday when I first saw my car after work this evening. Like a lurch rising up in my belly, that I was going to be able to have a smoke. Silly me, of course I wasn't.

Anyway there was only some boring claptrap on the radio, so I grabbed some old CD that I had found lurking in the glove box, it's an ancient Sunday Mirror Freebie and I swear I had no clue what was on it. Crikey, talk about subliminal messages!! Every track I listened to, spoke to me about smoking.

    I, I don't wanna say it
I don't wanna find another way

    I, I can't resist
Trying to find exactly what I miss
It's just another day without you.

There was another which I can't remember right now but boy it freaked me out a bit.
