I find a cig (even a dog end) soon fixes that but I just don't want to be dependant on the stinky lollipops so whilst am keeping my stash of dog ends for when the depression gets too much I don't want to be dependant...

Erme love, if I were you I would remove all temptation to smoke. Dump the dog ends, you don't need them around you when you are trying to quit!! The dog ends won't really help your depression will they?? However, I am sure the self esteem and the buzz you will get from being clean and finally freed from the habit would be a huge boost for you!
Sure it'll be horrid for a few days but there is a light at the end of that dark tunnel that has your name on it - if you really, really want it, you've gotta do the hard yards. If I can get this far, then you can too!!

of course I don't mind! I was hoping to spread it to as many ppl as possible! If you knew me, the idea I could get into and love jogging is amazing, but by following the programme I found that I loved it and it gave me a real buzz after each session :D I really hope you enjoy it as much!

Kiwi - Congrats on your first day smoke free:j your right which ever way you look at it 31 hours is a long time for a new ex smoker, that excitement you feel now for one day, imagine how that will feel for one week.

Erme, i really have to agree with Kiwi, get rid of those dog ends, they are jst temptation, your mind knows youhave them so will make you feel crappy so you use them.

One of my friends felt the depression when she gave up, lasted a few days, but once the nicotine was out of her system she started to perk up again.

You can do this, but get rid of all temptation, get on the patches and just the patches (you should not smoke whilst using patches as you can give your self a nictine overdose)

I really do wish you the best of luck with this erme :)

  • Hi Erme & Kiwi  erme its fantastic you've decided to give giving up another go, :j I'm really proud of you :) I agree with kiwi throw out the butts you don't need them I promise you can do this. I think possibly the low feeling could be something else ither than the smoking? It might be you're going through a low patch anyway? When do you see your doctor next? It also may be your mds need adjudsting without the smoke affecting the dosage Anyway keep at it it does get better. Really happy to see you back online x

Kiwi wow look at you go girl! So how was it in your lovely clean car on the way to & from work? I didn't clean my car yesterday (I'm so embarrassed 2 weeks and I still haven't done it!:o) car journeys really are a trigger for me too as I always puffed away like a sailer in mine :o (I wished I had been one of those ppl who didn't smoke in theirs!) It really made me chuckle that while I've been in bed getting my zed's you've had a working day! :rotfl:isn't it fantastic that we can share this experience but be on the other side of the world?

Good luck EVERYONE we're doing fantastically! :A

I didn't even run at school! :o I hated it so much that I simpy refused :o:o but as you start out its really just brisk walking with intervals of 1 minute jogging which anyone can do, but because you still trigger the endorphins from this - honestly its such a buzz afterwards - it spurs you on to the next week, as you go through each wee your fittness and stamina improves. If you find when you go onto the following week its a bit too much that's fine, take it back to the previous week, its more about improvng your own fitness and enjoying it than anything else so take it at your own pace.

I would also recommend going to a running shop and getting them to work out which trainers you need for your style of running (once you know you can get them somewhere cheaper/online ;))

Thank you, I'm glad I have you lot to share this with even if you're not in the same timezone - at least you all know that there'll be someone here at all hours, as I can chat to those who are up at crazy hours and cannot sleep.

I banned smoking in the house the last time we gave up ten years back, so the car was my only remaining sanctuary where nobody else could tell me not to smoke. I never used the ashtray so it wasn't hugely stinky.:rotfl: The car is a biggie for me too, as it was used as my umbrella on rainy days at work I would either sit in the car or go for a drive and smoke in my lunch hour.

It's still quite whiffy and I am sure the smell will linger for a long while yet. I cleaned it a bit more tonight as I noticed how yellowed and minging the steering wheel was. As I usually only had the left hand half on the wheel I probably never noticed before. :rotfl: I'll keep leaving the windows down whilst it's parked in the garage and give it another spray around at the weekend.

Nite nite!! That's my day done, off to bed now.

All I can say is WOW, the hours do soon mount up to something quite significant. It now seems like no time at all really since yesterday morning.

One day, 12 hours, 27 minutes and 42 seconds.
22 cigarettes not smoked, saving $15.74.
Life saved: 1 hour, 50 minutes.

Other than my dinner, I've only had one glass of water, a handful of grapes and a suck on a small chunk of watermelon this evening.
