Okay, so after my last post I caved in. :D:D

It's been two hours already since I smoked my last cigarette.:T

I gave myself a good talking to and decided that Monday morning at work might not be the best place to be having my first withdrawal symptoms and climbing the walls. So I gave up today instead and will have had a good twelve hours of not smoking before I go to bed tonight. I felt it would be easier actually to do the first bit at home, cos I have everything around me and can do whatever I need to do to kill time and get through this: i.e. have a bath, clean my teeth, walk about and drink heaps of water.

Presently doing some ritual cleansing and Flyladying my bedroom to at least level 74. :rotfl: Yep, literally from top to bottom; skirtings, coving the lot is getting done. In fact I have done so much in past two hours I came for a 'fag break' to sit down for five minutes with a glass of water and a squeeze of lemon. Lovely!!

I'm sure I'll be back later for hour by hour progress reports.

arghhh I have just got home from the out of hours Doctor.

I was working away on me laptop earlier when all of a sudden i got this really annoying pain in my right ear ... which increased with intensity .... great i thought I have an ear infection, just what i need when im getting well lol but it was manageable as i have a grommet in that ear (yes i know children have them but so do some adults) therefore the pressure couldnt build up that much.

2 hours later the pain started in my left ear .... so ended up calling the out of hours service ....

so im now the proud owner of a prescription for anti biotics and a box of amoxicillin which the dr gave me for a double ear infection.... Oh Joy!!!!

And through all of this not one thought about smoking ... previously i used to smoke when i was in pain as it would take my mind off of it, but not one single thought .... YAY go me lol

Ive just had another read through the posts and notice a lot od people are starting to hit the 10-14 day struggle ... trust me it will not last, this is nic's last attempt at keeping you ..... push him away.

Try every intervention you have, drink water, clean, have a bath or shower, walk the dog, just go for a walk. the list is endless.

I honestly wish you all well, and know you can make it through, look at us lot, we all made it through, im suprised i did as i have very little willpower, I have even shocked myself lol.

When nic tries to keep you push him away and mentally tell him to F off :rotfl:

Thanks Ross, I hope the antibiotics do the trick with your ears.

I can't say I haven't watched the clock or thought about smoking much more than a hundred times this afternoon :rotfl:, but amazingly whilst most of you were sleeping over the past five hours I have actually managed to remain sane and smokefree.

I've kept myself busy at a slow and steady pace, sat outside had a cup of tea, a couple of pieces of watermelon and plenty glasses of water and trips to the loo. I've done ironing, vacuumed the whole house, chopped my carrots for nibbles and put a little bottle of water in the freezer to take to work tomorrow.

Next on the agenda will be a shower then dinner, so I'll check in back later.

    GO ME
    :j:j:j
    FOUR WEEKS
    :j:j:j:j:j

I can honestly say I go whole hours and hours without thinking about smoking and when I do, it's not a craving as such, more a feeling that I was about to do something and can't remember what IYKWIM ;)

It's all in the mind now as I kept leaving putting a patch on later and later till I forgot and quite frankly it seemed to make no difference.

The brain is a weird thing (at least mine is :rotfl::rotfl:). Last night, I dreamed I was sitting out on a balcony. It was warm and I was wearing a T-shirt and shorts. The stars were out. I had a glass of wine and a cig and was totally at peace with the world. What the ??:eek::eek:

I woke up and just found it funny. It does warn me that it would be so easy to slip in some circumstances.

Kiwi Well done, you :T I said you would decide when you were ready. Keep posting. You can do it.

Ross I hope the antibiotics kick in soon. Earache is so nasty and to have a double infection must be horrid.

    Mat Nearly 2 weeks :T

All you others who have had a bit of a struggle It's just Nasty Nic's desperate tantrum. He's being evicted and there are fewer and fewer places where he is welcome now so he's having a strop :D Keep strong so you don't have to go through it all again.

It will pass. Trust me, I'm an ex-smoker :rotfl::rotfl:
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?
  • I'm still going! I feel a real sense of achievement for getting this far.

Keep Up the Good Work everyone!

I must have saved so much money :money:
  • Hi all,

Well having got the 2 week milestone over with, I thought yesterday would be an easier day, but by mid afternoon I was starting to find an odd craving creeping back in - it was over quickly enough but I had not had any cravings for the last couple of days so it was a bit strange.

Then it dawned on me - I hadn't put a new patch on and still had the patch from the day before on............ Normally I have a shower on a morning (I need a carer to help as I am paraplegic) but my usual carer has flu and was off sick. The replacement came a bit late so I didn't have time for a shower before I was due at work yesterday. Hence as I normally change patches after my shower, it didn't occur yesterday.

Anyway, as i had gone most of the day without a new patch (having taken the old one off) I decided not to put a new patch on and just to see what happened.

I fully expected to wake this morning craving the nicotine but to my surprise I haven't so far with no patch on. I have a supply of Step 2 and 3 patches just in case, but having been on Step 3 patches and now on none. I am hoping to stay off the patches.

Realistically I know I have gone very quickly from a 40 per day habit, through all 3 patch steps onto nothing in just over two weeks, but my determination to quit is huge. The silkquit thing is also very good, whenever I do think of smoking, I just look to see how much I have saved by not smoking and that is enough in itself to put me off smoking, never mind the smell and damage to health etc.

Anyway good luck to everyone else still on the path to quitting.

  • morning everyone yay made the 2 week mark & marching on to 3! :j It has been tough for me this last week, my mood hasn't been great and I've been arguing with my nearest & dearest and after that has passed I'm left with wanting to smoke. But I haven't caved in :T (did a lot of sleeping the last 2 days). I guess it will take time to re-wire the habit side of it. Unfortunately last night I was wanting one about 9.30pm had it have been earlier I would have gone for a run to run it out of my system, which is what I'm going to do today and then possibly a swim if I cba :)

ross sorry to hear about your ear ache, hope the meds clear it up super quickly

kiwi fantastic news you've stopped :j yep first day it was on my mind alot but the 2nd & 3rd were easier. lovely that you've sprung cleaned your bedroom today (think I'm going to valet my car also today - I haven't done it since i stopped :o)

mat football will be fantastic and you'll be buzzing when you're done!

ok keep up the fantastic work everyone (It's so fantastic that we're all in this together it really does make it that bit easier so thank you all :A)

I have long since crashed and burned, feeling absolutely wiped out and a bit hot and bothered but wanted to stay up to see the clock tick over the 12 hour mark.

    12 hours, 11 minutes and 51 seconds.
    7 cigarettes not smoked,
    saving £5.27.
    Life saved: 35 minutes.

Am off to bed now, so hope to see ya's on my next mission to conquer a smokefree tomorrow.
