  • Afternoon all, hope everyone is getting on ok. I am struggling to keep up with the number of posters on here!

Hi to Goochie, Kiwisaver and Elliegibbo - and good luck with quitting.

Kiwisaver - I stopped at night so that I could start a new day smoke free and clean. I just wanted to have clean clothes, cleaned teeth, washed hair etc so I couldn't smell stale smoke.

Still going ok here, had a brilliant night's sleep last night :)
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

Gotchya at least then goochie!!! Welcome back and all the very best this time round. If you can free yourself for the operation, then you can free yourself from the habit for life, I sincerely hope you can! I wish you well with the op...and weller still with a life free from fags. Be careful with the coffee for a while especially if you've normally had it with fags, change to tea or some other beverage/cold drink, it'll definitely help short-term.

A very warm welcome to the thread, Kiwisaver! Good to have you with us and freeing yourself from the evil weed. I know you said you were a bit daunted by reading the 200 odd pages of the old thread, but there's some valuable help to be had from doing so - and whilst you're doing that you're mind is taken up in thoughts of your own that will help. What sort of gum are you using? Could you please in future put the days not smoked for as well as the means of quitting on the Title bar (you'll see others have done so) it helps us all to help you and to know just hopw far you are, thanks a lot. My advice on having your last ciggy would be late one day, in the evening or definitely making the last one at night. If you were to have one in the morning you'd risk put the longing there right from the start of the day and right through to the end. Far easier to start afresh. Change your routine if it helps, drinks connected with fags too as well as alcohol, both help free you at least for the early weeks/months.

Congratulation with your journeys, Tally, you did so very well. A good idea with the weight curbing. You say you're nicotine free for the 12 days, do you mean you're now fag-free for that time? If still on the patches, which I believe you are, then for now, you're still ingesting nicotine, but look ahead to the time when you're not, it'll come soon enough. For now, you're doing marvelously and 12 days is so very close to the 2 week mark. Keep up that amazing will power, Tally!!! BTW, so pleased you found your Inhalator as it seems to be doing you good.

Hi Sally and pleased to hear the day is better. Brackston hicks problems are natural, but a pest, though how long is it now before the baby should arrive? Try and get yourself some fibre to help with the constipation, go for a good walk too, it helps get things 'moving' that's what you really need. Do go careful with what you're eating, especially if it's junk food. It's right that you can always lose weight afterwards, but don't forget you'll still have a fair bit of post birth fat excess for a while! If I were you I'd be careful from here on, it'll help the constipation too. You're right though quitting smoking is the more important thing to achieve...especially as it's to last long after your little one comes.

Well done, Mat, you're doing really great, well done on the weight loss too. All the best for the review...though pay rise in the current economic climate?????! Don't 'bank' on it!

GREAT to see you back SandC, so happy with life and yourself too! Congratulations on a year and 10 months!!!!! :T:T:T You've done so well to get rid of your weight too, you never would have guessed you'd feel so good about yourself 2 or 3 years ago, but just goes to show in CAN and IS done!!!! Don't forget your visits, please!:)

A very warm welcome to you, elliegibbo! You're right about thoughts of a bride and fags on the Big Day. Congratulations on 6 days free already. I'll send you a PM, but read though this thread and see what ideas you can get to help too. All the best in quitting for LIFE - YOUR OWN!!!!

Hi Penelope and very, very well done!!! :T:T Such good news about having had a good night's sleep too! You're struggling to keep up with the number of posters on here....me too in trying to clear my PMs - it's NEVER been this busy!!!! Good advice with what you've said to Kiwisaver! ;)

  • Hey everyone,

How we all feeling today? I have to say I woke up this morning - quite early which is odd for me - and was thinking about the smoking thing alot - but in a more positive way then before and when I got ready for work I was feeling really good about it. I have also booked myself in for my nails to be done at the weekend as a bit of a treat for getting on with the quitting.

So was feeling good all morning then lunch time came and I had a slight moment where I thought about it - but started doing the pub quiz on the ipad and sure enough the feeling passed without me even noticing - so the key thing with me is not to get bored, as I even write this I am pretty quiet at work - hence the boredom striking, making me feel like I want one - but I know I dont.

As for that - have slept ok for the last two nights - although both mornings I have woke up early thinking about quitting - not so much smoking! Also have developed a sore throat and slight cough but from what you guys are saying thats pretty normal.

My partner is being really helpful bless him and encouraging me along which is great. So fingers crossed we can get through today - I am seeing a friend that smokes tonight so just hoping I can keep on it through that as that will be a real test!

Speak to you soon guys and well done on all you have achieved so far - lets make it another day to add to our achievements....

  • Hi Everybody!

Thanks so much for all your kind words of enthusiasm it’s really helping!

Just thought I’d let you all know, got on great at my appointment, I even got a Star Sticker!!!

My Carbon Monoxide levels have gone from 20 to 2 in a week and they were really pleased with my progress.

Just got to keep up the good work now, I’ve got a really bad craving for chocolate though, that and Satsuma’s! Oh well never mind at least it’s not a fag!

Just trying to persuade the boss to nip out for some biccies!

I’ll try and pop in again when I get a minute xx

Good Luck everyone and keep up the good work, together we CAN do it!
I’m selfish, impatient & a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control & at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best. :)Marilyn Monroe

The wedding is booked! I'm getting married 29/07/2011!

Hi Anna and well done for the way you're handling things this far in. Don't analyse the waking early with quitting on your mind, simply accept it for being all part of it, which it is, still, you're viewing it in the positive light that we all need to. Very well done on recognising that, by the time the weekend arrives, you will be deserving a treat, enjoy the looking forward to it, and every second of pampering. I love the way you turned to the iPad Pub Quiz when having a moment at lunch time, you're right - keep as active as possible, especially your mind. The sore throat and slight cough are all a part of it, but will pass soon enough. Be very careful when seeing your smoker friend tonight, a little bit premature really - just beware and on your guard - she may be happy smoking - you are not! You may well be able to be an example to her to quit soon. Meanwhile, you have wonderful support from your partner - good for him! All the best Anna, that's what you deserve!

Congratulations on your CM reading coming down so quickly Kate! No wonder they were so pleased at your progress. You're ok having cravings for Satsumas, but try to think of something different to eat/suck/chew rather than chocolate and biscuits - both will soon pile the pounds on! Do as Caz and many others have got help from and buy some Ice Pops/Poles to suck/lick. - far better than ballooning out before your Wedding!!!

Could you please put the days not smoked for as well as the means of quitting on the Title bar (you'll see others have done so) it helps us all to help you and to know just hope far you are, it helps you too. Thanks a lot.

    Best wishes Kate.

Phew, am I glad I found this newer thread? I was a bit daunted by the 200 odd pages of the old one I had started to read. :rotfl: After reading ten pages I lost the will to live and went to the last page.

I have committed my mind to a quit date now that I have the weapons and props in place but am highly motivated to start earlier than planned - starting with first dose of Vitamin C today and a quick chew on some gum to see if it still tasted as bad as the last time I tried it. Yay, it's far better than it was ten years back, at least now it's sugar coated and minty.

Anyway, I have a quick question to pose on my final thoughts before going for a smokefree future. What is the best time of the day to give up? Does anyone have any advice on whether it's better to stop at night or in the morning?

Is there any benefit to not having that first one in the morning, after a night's sleep and 7 or 8 hours in the bag of not having had a ciggie? I am half tempted to have my first one in the morning and then go from there - or is that just being cowardly and delaying the 'process' unnecessarily?

hey kiwisaver :) I'm sure this has been answered (and I will read on and find out) but for me I smoked until 10.43 on the day of my quit. I have found in the past that I psyche myself up for quiting, get rid of the cigs the night before then get filled with panic in the morning so bought some more and then didn't quit :o this time I did it a bit different and its worked. whatever feels right for you is best x

If I recall correctly I quit about 9 ish on the day before and so felt like I had a head start already on the night before. However, I have tried to have one in the morning first, it didn't work for me, and I've had one last thing at night and then went to bed and that didn't work too well either. I *think* if you're in your head ready to quit, any and all escapes from Nasty Nic work really well. :)

  • Good Evening Everyone

I have to say my 'treat' mobile will be leaving home and not returning..I shall be packing it's bag with the message..'So Sad, So Glad bye bye' The touch screen does not recognise fingers, well not mine anyway. The outdoor/general profile is exactly the same volume level (took me days to find profiles) Texting.. takes about 2 minutes to get the tx going AND I had to send tx's without spaces because I couldn't work out where they put the space. Alarm..well by the time I sorted that out dinner was nearly burnt (must buy a timer for cooking) So I'm going back to my old 10 year old mobi~it works and that's good enough for me ;)

Ahh! Just watching the news as I'm typing..Have you seen Mitzi (?) the dog with a bionic foot? What a vet :T Love animals :)

Wonder if I could make my DS bionic, maybe he will move faster (or at least fast) when we are in a hurry :rotfl: Do all teenagers move in 'slow motion'?

Hope you're all well and keeping up the quit. :):)

    AZ xx

OMG the phrase "in a minute" used to drive me NUTS!!!! luckily at 18 ds has got out of that phase - unfortunately now if he doesn't want to do it he tells me to b*gger off :rotfl:(weirdly though its less frustrating!)

Today has been a funny old day and for the first time (I think, correct me if I'm mistaken) I actually thought about going and getting a cig to smoke  first time I have been to my counselling session since I quit and I really did think about it - just a habit its what I always did, spark up straight afterwards. Luckily the moment passed afterwards and instead I rode my bike home (car still in the garage) and the short burst of exercise was soothing instead.

Hope you've all had a great day. Only 1 more working day till 2 days off :j (although have really been loving my job this week, but also love time off ;))
