    Hi all You new People,

I am sorry I cannot post more often these days, but I am taking part in so many challenges that I would never switch off my laptop if I were to keep posting on all of them!

I just wanted to say that stopping smoking does seem difficult in the early days (more in our heads than physically) but one day at a time and you will get there.

This is why I am posting really. In the past on here I used to say I would never say never about smoking, but just over the past few days, it has dawned on me that at 21 months, I am finally free! I mean, really truly free.

No illusions that a nicotine would be of any use, in any kind of situation, good or bad. Sometimes when I was happy, I would have this fleeting thought about how it would be nice to smoke. Or if I was unhappy I thought, darn it, I don't smoke anymore.

Now I never think about it. I just came back from my friend who smokes and though she smoked while I was there I just thought, oh no my clothes are going to smell and my throat went a bit croaky but that was it!!

So I am sticking my flag here for you all to see. "Larmy got there in the end".

It is this thread that helped me quit, keep quitting and stay quit and I wish you all the love and encouragement I have received from my friends on here. (You know who you are :))

    Keep it up everyone. :T:j:T

    welcome-1.gifto all newbies!

A lot of you have mentioned being scared of actually quitting..........I posted this last year.

I thought it may be of some help............I have now stopped smoking for 5 months 11 days without any problems.

Go for it...............try it for a day............and another.
It's the best thing you can do for yourself (and your loved ones)

If I decide to stay a non-smoker then there is a chance I MAY:

experience a craving which will last seconds........minutes at the most and cravings are NOT guaranteed!
    That is the ONLY negative.

    it is guaranteed:
i will feel so very very proud of myself
have less chance of any of the things below happening

If I decide to become a smoker again then there is a very high chance that it will: (in no particular order :D)

affect my sinuses (and the suffering is torture)
make me have a hacking cough
feel the cold more because of bad circulation
have a very negative effect on my teeth/gums and lead to loss of teeth
    affect my skin
    affect my lungs/breathing
    increase my chances of cancer
increase my chances of suffering a stroke
increase my chances of suffering a heart attack
    increase my chances of thrombosis
    increase my chances of gangerine/amputation
force me to come off of my HRT patches

    it is guaranteed it will:
    cost me between £60 & £70 a month
make me and my clothes smell horrible
make me FREEZING when I have to stand outside to smoke
make me anxious having to worry about when and where I can smoke (was a secret smoker)
make me anxious having to think whether I've got enough/am running out
make me feel very disappointed with myself

    Hope that makes sense................X

    Oh Dundeedoll

I've been looking for that post since for ever.. and it's your's. :rotfl:

This is the post I printed off and has been on my kitchen wall since before I joined you all. It was the post that made me quit. I even made it smaller to carry in my bag/car. And I couldn't find the post to thank the person, yea! now I can say thank you so very much

I read this every morning, afternoon, evening and before bed..some people read the bible I read DDD's bible..;)

I would definitely urge anyone on thinking of quitting to print this off and put up in front of the kettle, so you read it always whilst making a cuppa, that's what I did as I always had a ciggie making drinks..

The words are so true and it really does make you think..did me :T

Well done DDD (now I can stop stalking people's post)

    AZ xx

P.S. I would have cut your name off when printed off ~~sorry~~

    Hi all You new People,

So I am sticking my flag here for you all to see. "Larmy got there in the end".

I'm hanging on to that! I remember you from reading the previous threads and I feel as if I've condensed 1 yr and 9 months into a few weeks! Thanks for coming back and sharing that with us 'newbies'. It really does help. :T:T:T

Sally You said "Everyone is doing so well! and day 4 and I still seem to be having my own private pitty party!! - And none of you are welcome as your all doing too well." It may sound like that to you at the moment but we've all had our bad days at the beginning and you'll be surprised how, when you look back, it seems to have passed so quickly. Just take it hour to hour. "I'll see how I feel in 10 minutes, half an hour, an hour, after lunch, when I get home, after this TV programme, in the morning . . . I solemnly promise that it will get easier - I was a 30 a day smoker (higher some days :() for nearly 50 years. If I can do it, anyone can. Now I have to keep it up or I'll discourage you :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: so you've helped me!

broody 23 Welcome aboard the Freedom Express. :hello: It may sound daft but I've found that, if I hold my fingers against my lips as if I have a cig in my hand and suck in a deep breath between them, it relieves the feeling! I think that shows how much is in the mind!

Anna Thanks for the thanks - if you know what I mean ;) Just pay it forward when you have something to help someone - and you will.:T:T. I have found the silkquit meter helps me the same way - I've got past rushing to see it tick over to a new day but it is a great spur on when I boot up in the morning.

JD I was one of the lurkers who watched your quit! Thanks for telling us you may not be posting over the next few days. We do care and would be worried if you just went AWOL. I'll bet you are counting the days till your transfer! I did horrendous commutes in my time and it really gets to you in the end.

dundeedoll It all made sense to me! You're nearly on six months now - a great milestone. We must party:rotfl::rotfl:

G'night all. Sweet dreams - especially AZ.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

Reading that has made me feel so happy.............I was having a 'blippy' time - not craving, but constantly thinking about cigs. The next day I had 8 hours of ironing to do at work, so lots of thinking time..............and I had a little word with myself :D and then I thought I'd post my thoughts..............so to think that my post had such a positive effect on you is a fabulous feeling :j

Ref. the kettle...........I also posted this :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I used to look after a neighbours (very intelligent ex guide lab) dog at my house.
After a couple of days I noticed that as soon as I put the kettle on she would leap out of her bed and go straight to the back door.
Every tea/coffee meant a ciggy............and I didn't usually smoke in the house, only the back garden.
    PAVLOV EXPERIMENT????????? :eek::eek::eek:

I have posted that a few times............I found the deep breathing wasn't doing it for me (fine in bed to relax tho') as that was breathing in through the nose for 4, hold for 4 and breathe out through mouth for 4. I NEEDED to breathe in hard through my mouth for 4 etc as if I was dragging a cig. Very, very effective.

In regards to smoking not had any cravings for what seems like weeks, its odd, i dont remember what smoking was like, and now sit here thinking, why did i do it in the first place lol.

    Keep well everyone
