  • Hi,

Well as I posted a coulple of days ago, I had a long drive yesterday from being 'down south' where I had been to visit friends to back home. I needed to factor in a couple of stops for medication which I knew where going to be my 'danger zones'.

Anyway, to cut a long story (well journey actually) short, I made it, both with the patch and also a new weapon in the form of Sugar Free Polo's.

Whilst I was away, my friends although congratulating me on doing so well not smoking, did say I was eating like a horse and was always nibbling on this or that. I hadn't noticed to be honest so was a bit shocked.

Anyway as I had somewhere lost my empty Inhalator which I had been occasionally 'puffing on' since I quit the weed, I now seem to have been nibbling on anything and everything - probably because it all tastes so much nicer nowadays.

So, drastic action called for, in the shape of sugar free Polo's. I now have one only when I get the occasional craving (such as when I stopped the car on the way home). All other snacks and nibbles are now off the menu as I don't want to end up piling on the kilo's.

Anyway when I got home I found my inhalator so am back to using that and only have a sugar free Polo when things get really bad - so far I didn't need any yesterday evening/night or this morning so far. Am back at work today so it will be a good test.

Overall thuogh, never having got this far before, I am finding it does get easier by the day once the first 5 or 6 days are over with. I have the silkquit thing on my computer showing I have saved £135 so far - more towards the holiday fund!!.

  • Hi there

Been lurking for a few weeks as I knew that this day was coming, had my last cig at 10pm last night. Not sure how I am feeling this morning, kind of excited, kind of nervous, bit jittery (that could be the coffee tho!).

I really want to be smoke-free, I have smoked 15-20 a day for approx. 22 years (eeekk...) and I have to have surgery next Friday and am determined to be smoke-free for at least a week before then and then every day afterwards.

I first joined this thread back in March 2009 and Sue-U sent me her fabulous welcome PM (which I still have), it's taken me a while, but I'm here now!!!
Well done everyone, you are doing really well.

    Have a great day.

Phew, am I glad I found this newer thread? I was a bit daunted by the 200 odd pages of the old one I had started to read. :rotfl: After reading ten pages I lost the will to live and went to the last page.

I have committed my mind to a quit date now that I have the weapons and props in place but am highly motivated to start earlier than planned - starting with first dose of Vitamin C today and a quick chew on some gum to see if it still tasted as bad as the last time I tried it. Yay, it's far better than it was ten years back, at least now it's sugar coated and minty.

Anyway, I have a quick question to pose on my final thoughts before going for a smokefree future. What is the best time of the day to give up? Does anyone have any advice on whether it's better to stop at night or in the morning?

Is there any benefit to not having that first one in the morning, after a night's sleep and 7 or 8 hours in the bag of not having had a ciggie? I am half tempted to have my first one in the morning and then go from there - or is that just being cowardly and delaying the 'process' unnecessarily?

    Good morning non smoking buddies!!
Today is going to be a productive day! I dont care how or why, but it will be! I need to clean, take some nursing bra's back to mothercare and get some food in. Thats my plan!
I have put a full patch back on this morning and I feel sick as a dog, but its staying on so I dont find it too hard! I was convinced last night that the baby was coming! I finally got these brackston hicks things and all I could think was....'please dont come as I'll be too stressed not to smoke' whereas today, if she decideds to come - Im ready for it all
Hubby had a better nights sleep and I had a lie in! Not done that for weeks!
The only thing Im battling is constipation - a mixture of seena, glycerin and lactulose is not helping, but I know its because I have eaten NOTHING but crap (and fruit) so back to it today!
Thank you for this thread - it is really helping!

Sally You said "Everyone is doing so well! and day 4 and I still seem to be having my own private pitty party!! - And none of you are welcome as your all doing too well." It may sound like that to you at the moment but we've all had our bad days at the beginning and you'll be surprised how, when you look back, it seems to have passed so quickly. Just take it hour to hour. "I'll see how I feel in 10 minutes, half an hour, an hour, after lunch, when I get home, after this TV programme, in the morning . . . I solemnly promise that it will get easier - I was a 30 a day smoker (higher some days :() for nearly 50 years. If I can do it, anyone can. Now I have to keep it up or I'll discourage you :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: so you've helped me!

Thank you for your kind words, and of course you are right. My eating has gone up 10 fold and I am trying to work out what is worse. I am a food and smoking addict. I had a gastric bypass and lost lots of weight and this along with being pregnant means my weight is creeping up and I am scared, and I think the lesser of the evils is the food at the minute. I can always lose weight after - there is pleanty of support for me for the food addiction, so surely smoking IS more important to quit at the minute!
Wow feeling very deep this morning!

    Hey everyone,

Having a good day today, stress free work day, weighed in for first time last night since my healthy eating and no smoking. Lost a today 1.3kgs in the process. Still feeling chesty though, but seems to be easing now. Hoping a few more sessions down the gym will clear all that up for good.

I have my work performance review today and feeling positive so hopefully I can persuade them to give me a payrise :)

Hope everyone else is having a good day ?? Good luck to all those just starting out.

Hi guys, thought I would pop in here to say hello and hopefully offer some support. Sorry I don't come in here very often but I forget it's here - what with being a non smoker and all. :D

I'm swiftly heading for two years smoke free and found the clinic to be the best £170 I ever spent. I was spending almost that much on cigs per month anyway. For anyone struggling with the more conventional approach do google it and have a look for clinics in your area - it's only half a day and it works. If I knew how, well I wouldn't have had to go. But believe me I was the type of person who smoked a whole pack if I was drinking and would have one the minute I woke up - 3 before I even got to work. So if I could do it so can anyone. Really.

I do believe you have to be in the right place in your head though and only you will know when that is.

If you've other worries as well, re the stress relief and what to do with your hands and all the other excuses we use to smoke - well once you get used to not smoking they all fade away.

I can't tell you how good it felt after my father died just 2 months after stopping smoking that I didn't think to fall back on smoking as the previous crutch it might have been. It was one of the first things one person said to me when she spoke to me - 'have you started smoking again?'. Made me more determined somehow.

And for another thing - it has given me a new lease of life. Smoking doesn't keep you thin. It's not because I've given up but nearly a year after stopping phase II of the new me came in and I've got really into exercise and as a result have dropped a couple of stone in weight and continue on the same path. I believe smoking makes you lazy, amongst all the other stuff.

Anyway, all I'm saying is whatever this evil nicotine tries to tell you, it's wrong, wrong, wrong. There are no benefits to smoking. Just that you lot have got to that point where you don't like it any more. In a while you'll realise you never did.

Best of luck to you all!

Ooh, that's a tricky one, a very personal choice - for me, my last cig had to be the last one of the day, if I had got up this morning and had a cig as usual, that would have set the tone for the rest of the day and I know I would want another one. Good luck with whichever route you decide.
  • Hi all,

Came across this thread and thought it would help in those weak moments where I feel I really need one!

Am getting married this June and the thought of having to stuff my ciggies down my dress was not pleasant, nor was the thought of having to ask the driver of the cars to stop and pull over so myself and OH could have a smoke break!!

Also, have to think about the money involved, was smoking 20 a day and at nearly £6 a packet, it was expensive...

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :j
