sue I think it is the back problem causing the weight issue. I can't do much but sit and I am eating out of boredom
I try to potter around but it is really difficult. I am amazed how I haven't said booger it and gone for a cig so think I am doing especially well.
I am going to write down everything I eat and scare myself to death :eek::eek:
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I have not really had any of the smell issues. Only one the other day when I was talking to a friend and her breath smelt apart from that I have had people smoke in my porch and it hasn't been that shock yukkk smell ???? I have an ashtray in the porch which I pick up and sniff occasionally and it stinks but last time I gave up I would have smelt that from a thousand paces so I don't really know what is going on regarding my nosemaybe it has gone on strike with the rest of my body

Good Morning fellow quitters
I hope you are all having a great weekendWell well well, who would have though it, today is my day 7 of being smoke free, I am absolutely amazed I have managed to do it and I fell so positive about the whole thing as well. My wife is also on day 4 on nothing really but willpower I am so proud of her
Every day it gets a bit easier and a bit easier, yesterday was a good day had 1 pang around tea time that last a couple of minutes then nothing after that, sat down last night and was sooooooo relaxed it was brilliant. I have noticed I have loads more energy as well, my get up and go got up and went a long time ago, but slowly but surely it is coming back, I want to get out and do things, it is a lovely sunny day here today, I am just about to do a few couple of tip runs to tidy the gardens up a bit, started thinking about my new veg plot as well and making some plans for that. Ordered some lovely new fruit tress the other day so need to sort out somewhere for them as well.
It really is great, I cannot reccomend giving up smoking enough, if you are lurking and reading this teetering on the edge of giving up, DO IT! Really it is not as hard as you are imagining I promise
I too have back problems, I have been on enough pain killer to put a horse to sleep for the last 7 years, you get yourself caught in a trap, I have put on loads of weight and I mean loads, so now I am huge, I move and do some exercise and my back hurts, I sit still I put more weight on it is a vicious circle. The GP gave me an exercise referral the last time I went to see her, I have my induction at the local gym a week on Monday I am really looking forward to this now as well, I am going to get a monthly membership and start going swimming a few times a week, might as well tackle everything in one go
You are all doing fantastic, keep up the good work fellow quitters and I hope you enjoy the remainder of the weekend"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -

oooooh what a really nasty wake-up call, if one were needed, Money maker!!! As horrible as that sounds now it's you as you were, the you your kiddies knew as Mum no matter how you smelled. If they've always had love in their lives they'll be more concerned with that and cuddles than the smells around them. You said yourself that was an old pile of clothes which has helped worsen things! Consign the pile and it's smell to the history books, but bear it in mind if ever you should become at all tempted as often we only need one reminder (like NTC's skanky bus shelter) to see us safely through any temptations.
Give them lots of cuddles and let them get used to the smell of you now which is fresh, clean Mum and never feel any kind of guilt, that's only for those who read this and keep smoking regardless of smelly Mum!
Thanks for the Sesame Ryvita warning, Money maker, I like Ryvita now and again, but don't eat too much of it as it makes my tongue a bit sore after a few days. I'm glad you said it was you with the Ryvita, sometimes when there are a few of you to chat to I start to forget who said what, throw in that a few other problems and I doubt my own name!
Sue x
WOW, not long now then, NTC!! That's it spring clean and get a lovely sweet-smelling home again. Do beware of any alcohol (I know someone said they don't drink, but...can't remember who it was) as it can mess things up completely. If your friend wants a fag then let her have it outside with you staying in. Aside from that, have a lovely evening as you've deserved it! :T

I can easily see why it'd all be that way, PIC, I really do sympathise and am also stunned at you not giving in to fag thoughts. Still, you're made of strong stuff and determined to beat this blasted habit and good for you!!! :T
The diary of all you eat would truly be a good thing to do, it would help you know the full extent of the boredom eating and even if you only cut back on eg. 3 biscuits rather than 4 each time you snack, then after a few days down to 2 instead of 3 it has to be a help and will stop you putting on MORE weight!!! If you can stop the fags PIC then you can control the fodder!Any good at knitting or crochet or anything to help you focus on? If so, whatever it is, try it.
The smell thing sounds as though it's your sinuses, mine have caused me hell over the past 13 years. I've had 2 ops, but still stream on going from one room to another or from indoors to outside, even downstairs to upstairs! Not to worry as it would have been even worse if I'd stuck with smoking these past 13 years!!!! I can still suss out a smoker anywhere!!!!
All the best PIC and keep smiling!

Hiya Kiwi!!! It's so good to see you back and urging determined on, keep it up and maybe this time we can get her to that winning post. I was really thrilled to hear about your weight loss, well done! I'm sure it was Tricia that determined was talking about.
Take care Kiwi.

Hi UnderPressure! What a positive post! :TYou and our dear Wife sound as though you're doing marvellously and you certainly sound motivated with renewed energy too! The garden is really good incentive to lose weight at this time of year and with your back problem too (agony by the sounds of it!) it can only do you good for sure.
All best wishes with the gym, it'll be wonderful for you, swimming too! As you gradually lose weight you may then find it easier to do walking etc also, then build it up bit by bit
You'll certainly feel tons better with your back! It sounds as though the sky could be the limit for you, Underpressure!!! Amazing how starting in one place (smoking) can suddenly start to make so much achievable!
Very well done to you both and keep it up as it's starting to do marvels !!! :T:T

Have a wonderful smoke-free Sunday everyone and do please carry on with the amazing work you're doing - we don't get too many chances in life to keep our health - grab THIS one as there are so many risks!

I am so glad you saw the light and came back to the fold again. Well done so far, you've done the hardest bit already.
I don't remember who it was that lost lots of weight last year, all I can say with any confidence is that is wasn't me. :rotfl: Still, I am getting there and I have shifted half of it since New Year without doing anything too radical.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: that did make me chuckle and I can tell you I'm in need of a bit of light entertainment right now!
I know so stupid of me, but there you go, hopefully I live and learn.
Gonna clean my car today as it is still a moving ashtraykiwi I remember you cleaning your car like your life depended on it in the early days :rotfl:
Money maker I know its shocking the smell, our bedroom is unpleasant and I am slowly making my way through washing everything. At least we're doing the best by our families now. Can't change the past and all that...
Keep at it guys and a special thanks to all those non-smokers who just give their time and encouragement for our good, thank you xxxDF as at 30/12/16

PIC this is about the 7th time I have given up and to be honest each and every time is different with its own challenges and idiosyncrasies. The smell isn't so disgusting to me as it was previously but then this time I am hardly having cravings, none that I've noticed. But each time I encounter stress (every hour at the moment) I think shall I? Can't wait till I have a different response.
Think am going go run the hell out of the woods in a minute!DF as at 30/12/16

I hope you went through with your running the hell out of the woods earlier. A great stress buster! We're all right behind you watching your every move.

Very well put Denis!
BTW Underpressure, does your DW realise she now has the nicotine out of her system? If not please tell her and that anything remaining is only psychological. She's doing brilliantly and you do right by being so proud of her too, she of you also I'm sure!:D

And do you know what? Despite all my efforts the damn thing still stinks, after all this time. I have cleaned and polish it, sprayed all the mats and seats with air fresheners and the smell is still there in the background. I leave my car in the garage with windows open overnight so it gets lots of airing, but still when it's been parked outside with windows closed up I can smell it when I get back in.
Don't give in to that demon Nic O'Teen, messing with your head an'all - go running and scream at the trees in the woods if you have to. :eek:Mortgage

Afternoon everyone
Thought I would check in with the gang see how all your Monday's are going
Day 8 for me today and day 5 for my darling wifey, I seem to have got to the stage now where if I am being honest it is easy, no pangs at all so far today and nothing last night either. I do not know why I have left it 21 years to give up, I worked out the other day that at a conservative £4 a day over the last 21 years I had spent 30k! Thirty thousand pounds up in smoke, and I wonder why most of the time I do not have a pot to pee in and why I drive old bangers and do not own my own house! This does not take into account the wifies 20 a day for the last 16 years I have been with her between us it is probably more along the lines of 50k!
Crikey I wish I could have that money back, I cannot believe what I have done, how much I have literally wasted, I fell like a complete and utter mug now! Oh well what can you do, move on lesson learnt, onwards and upwards, enjoy my hard earned money Benson and Hedges (and of course our great government) you will be getting NO MORE!
Thanks to everyone who has posted to me, I appreciate your time, thoughts and encouragement, I hope I can offer something back to this thread now over the coming months. Sue, you know how to say just the right thing that is a talent and I appreciate it
I did my bit of gardening and hobbled back in the house a couple of hours later, it was lovely enjoying the fresh air I paid for it last night and today though my back has been agony. I have to get out of this vicious circle so I am off to the doctors tomorrow to get her to increase my meds to the maximum, I have been putting this off for months now as I am already swallowing enough pills every day to make a horse sleep, but I have my exercise referral to the local gym on Monday my thoughts are it is not going to be of any good if I can only do a few minutes and then have to stop due to back pain, whereas if I a "loaded" with painkillers I should be able to exercise longer and more often without paying such a painful price for it. As I start to lose weight my back problem should become less and less so I will be able to reduce the tablets then, it is the only idea I can come up with to break the circle once and for all.
At least I can cross smoking off my list of things to sort out, it is funny but I know I will never smoke again, that book is dam goodStill taking the Champix I will get another months supply tomorrow, I understand it is supposed to be a 3 month course but I am going to ask tomorrow if that is really needed, maybe I could come off them sooner, we will see
Other things I have noticed, sense of smell is a lot better than it was, taste buds have come alive again which is wonderful, I have been saying for years things like why does this not taste like I remember it when I was a kid, now I know! I have also noticed the smokers smell on people passing me in the street or at the supermarket, I can tell easily when someone has just had a fag I do not recall ever smelling this before.
The smoke smell is driving the wife mad, she can smell it everywhere in the house, curtains, clothes bedding and we never ever smoked upstairs! She has spent the weekend going from room to room if it is fabric it has been in the washing machine! She also told me this morning that the only way we are going to truly get rid of the smell for good is to re-decorate everywhere...........oh dear
Nothing much else to report at the moment, thanks again for all your kind posts
Keep up the good work quitters and have a great day"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -
hi everyone and sorry for not replying sooner have been busy redecorating and looking for a job as have lost mine recently. well done underpressure and in response to your question i do get the odd craving which soon goes but was made worse as my oh was smoking still but he has now been smoke free since friday which has helped so much as he smelled terrible lol. iv cut my champix to 1 a day and this seems to have helped alot with my disturbed sleeping pattern. And thankyou to sue for such a lovely message of encouragement as well really made me smile
