Been a pleasure to read this thread recently, so many joining us and so many long-term non smokers being really supportive.
Am winning the nicotine battle. Arguing with the eating battle! Body says 'don't need food' but head says you need to fill the nicotine gap. Have invested in some ryvita.
Did notice that I skipped brekkie on monday, shopping in asda at lunchtime and blood sugar level must have plummeted as I got the shakes and struggled to stay on my feet. Shame I had to raid the pork pies and sausage rolls when I got back to the car:D but worth remembering not to skip meals or to keep a mars bar or suchlike to hand/in the car. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

If I am honest I am concerned about the weight gain side of stopping. i know people say you shouldn't worry about that and just eat what you like as you can handle it later but last time i gave up i put on 2 stone and 2/3 dress sizes :eek: I just can't afford to do that this time so will have to handle the two issues together. My treat last time was pistachio nuts and I got through loads - Didn't realise how may calories were in them of course.
Going to start moving all the smoking stuff like ashtrays/lighters this weekend. Final weekend of smoking then thats it:T
i will probably have some pretty big decorating projects on my hands after that once I realise how bad my smoking has affected my lovely houseStill at least that will stop me eating :rotfl:
Right best get to work and hope everyone has a lovely smokefree day29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -
Morning - had a pretty rough evening for one reason and another but did not succumb to going & buying some cigs even though the thought went through my mind several times...
I guess the 1st few days & week are the roughest. After that I clearly remember the sense of elation and realisation that its not as bad as you thought it was and in fact its quite easy.
Needstochange its really easy for me to say don't worry about the weight - and I am also not happy to think I'm going to put weight on. But it doesn't have to be that way. Read Sue's email, use ice poles, sip water continually and eat satsumas & you'll be fine. I clearly remember someone who lost weight coincidentally while giving up last year (Was it Trish Sue?) because she did all of that and went for a walk every day.
In the end a 1/2st weight gain is easy to deal with in 6 months, a horrible smoking related disease isn't x
good luck to us all! For me today's the last day of the actual physical addiction. After today its just the psychologicalDF as at 30/12/16

Morning Denis and how true are your words. Anyone wanting to download the Silk Quit meter, here is the link http://www.silkquit.org/stop-smoking/quit-meter.aspx
The post below may appear as though it's all to determined, but it relates to you also, Underpressure, Needstochange, paidinchickens and Money maker. Anyone else with weight concerns too.
So sorry to read your last night's post just now, determined, our lad and his Wife came for a meal and a lovely evening so no MSE for me. Still, you got yourself through it and for that WELL DONE!! :T Great to read your 2nd paragraph and final sentence of the last! Keep them both in mind along with the Quitters Pledge!
If you've had problems with pistachio nuts before, Needstochange try others and if you're strict with yourself then just a handful a day to nibble on a day won't do you any harm, especially walnuts and almonds; also try some sunflower hearts (edible not bird ones - or you'll tweet). Don't forget, folks, you can have as much fruit as you wish, though if anyone's diabetic - be careful with grapes as they have their own sugar! Remember crazymum is having about 10 (I think) apples a day and quitting's become almost a doddle for her!
You're right about Ice Pops/Poles determined, they are great to suck on, lovely and refreshing too. You can all find them in a supermarket, usually in a box (not freezer) then you take them home to freeze.
I'm fairly sure it was Tricia, determined, though Kiwi might remember better, she still pops in to see us and will let us know - if she remembers herself. Kiwi had problems, but with regular walks and sensible eating got hers under much better control.
Exercise is key to quitting and not gaining weight and if all of you start to do that you'll have less of your 'twiddling thumbs and horrible thoughts' moments and be tackling your weight as well as releasing endorphins into the brain to help you feel really great about quitting. Brisk walking is good for everyone, but becomes imperative for folk when they're quitting, and for when it's raining, what better than working out to dvds. Are you going to get your bike out again this time, determined? The right weather will soon be hear to make it easier.
BTW, how very true is your sentence abouta1/2st weight gain being easy to deal with in 6 months, but not a horrible smoking related disease!!! Always bear that in mind, girls, it's the absolute truth!
Keep up the amazing work girls, it's ll so worth doing, I promise you. It's certainly the best thing I ever did health-wise!
Sue x
Great stats, Money maker! Now get the pork pie stats under control and eat your brekkie!!
All the best with the decorating, Needstochange, there's nothing quite like it for anti-fags therapy though.
Oooh you're so forceful, PIC and I just love your aka!!! :rotfl:
All the very best to you everyone, we're all behind you and willing you forward.

Yes I am looking forward to noticing this change as well
Well Day 5 is here already the week has flown by and here I am on day 5 and still smoke free! I still cannot quite believe that I have managed to give up, I feel so proud of myself and pleasedDuring the day is easy, no pangs at all, I am eating mints and chewing chewing gum and really enjoying the clean feeling mouth and breath so during the day is no problem. Night time however is still a bit of a struggle, once the children are in bed and I sit down to relax as all I have on my mind is a fag, this used to be my favourite time of day to smoke so probably something to do with that, it is weird though there are no cravings the Champix sees to that, it is me battling with me, the habit side of it sitting down and relaxing at night with a fag, another strange thing is I know for sure in my head I am not going to give in but still go through the bad panto in my head every night.
I have come to the conclusion that sub consciously I am testing myself to see if I will give in or not, it is unpleasant more than anything as said I know for sure I am not going to give in.
I have decided to change my night time routine, I am studying with the Open University at the moment so when the children go to bed I am going to sit down and do a couple of hours uninterrupted study, hopefully this will be enough time to bypass the panto!
An extra development is my long suffering wife has decided to quit smoking as well, I seem to have spurred her on, she is on quit day 2 using will power and the Allen Carr Easyway book, she seems to be coping well, we have had the odd moment where she has been wandering around like a wounded tiger but on the whole I am really proud of herIf she keeps this up we are going to save somewhere in the region of £300 per month! This will be a huuugggggeeeeee help, especially at the minute we have been feeling the financial pinch for a few months now.
Nothing much else to report, feeling great, smelling great life is rosy for a change!
Stay positive fellow quiitters, remember you are thrilled to be a non smoker

Many congratulations on Day 5, UnderPressure!!!! :T:T You have every right to feel as you do, giving up something like nicotine is HUGE and if we can get 5 days away from it, then it's massive, especially as most of us will have smoked for years before stopping so you feel just as proud as you wish, you really do deserve it!!
This is all still so very new to you though, so although you have the days sorted it's little wonder the evenings, your favourite time before, is still a bit of a battle. However, you have your OU course sorted out and all set for you to plunge yourself into - just what the minds needs.....to focus! This too will soon become a habit just as the smoking was.
Try sitting in a different chair/room for the early days and little by little you'll remove all the old habits yourself as you've already realised just what the problem is - pure habit - nothing more; but habits can in time become broken! You don't need to change things for life, just for the time being until your mind stops the associations.***********************************************
It's funny you mentioned about the Pantomime bit, because until today.....I honestly thought you were female!!!! Oh no..you're not! :rotfl:***********************************************UnderPressure wrote: »An extra development is my long suffering wife has decided to quit smoking as well, I seem to have spurred her on, she is on quit day 2 using will power and the Allen Carr Easyway book, she seems to be coping well, we have had the odd moment where she has been wandering around like a wounded tiger but on the whole I am really proud of herIf she keeps this up we are going to save somewhere in the region of £300 per month!

I am so thrilled to hear about your Wife being on Day 2 already!!!! Congratulations to her please!!! :T:T Look what an inspiration you've been to her, excellent work!!!! Show her the paragraph you've written above, she'll be so delighted and, if more encouragement is needed, surely that HAS to be it!!!
VERY well done indeed, Underpressure and wife...or is that....?:D

Have a really great smoke-free and nicotine-free weekend everyone!
