hi everyone well its 2 weeks today iv have not smoked with the help of champix :) am finding it hard as my oh smokes and so does my daughter but i havent given in and my oh is planning on quitting next monday so that should make it a bit easier. one side effect im having is poor sleep i am constantly waking up in the night which is leaving me drained:( i hope it will settle down soon and well done everyone who has quit :)
  • Good luck for day 1 :j:j

I think most of this giving up is a battle of wills and I constantly argue with myself in my own mind :D "I can do this.........oh no I can't" lol its like a bad pantomime in my head :rotfl::rotfl:

Seriously you can do this, if a big craving comes on take a deep breath and go and do something for 10 minutes and it will have worn off. I would flick through I player for obscure programmes just til the urge went :o I don't really watch tv but it help in the first few days

4 weeks at 9pm tonight, could not remember how long it was and had to check the calender :rotfl::rotfl:

    PIC x

Thanks for posting and well don on being smoke free for 4 weeks that really is an achievement  You are right about the bad panto that is exactly what it is like lol arguing with myself whatever next!

Only a few hours in but so far it is easier than I expected, no cravings as such again just my head telling me how nice it would be to have a fag with that coffee, so slung the coffee got a glass of water and sucking softmints to death :)

I did mean to ask, is it a good idea to increase my water consumption over the next couple of weeks? Will this speed the detox process up? Even 1 glass a day would be an increase of 100% for me, I hate the stuff but if it helps.........

Well done you  Someone else on the Champix journey the same time as me. I have been the opposite having quite heavy tiredness rather than insomnia, I have read a lot of reviews of Champix and the restless nights do seem to be a common side affect that settle down in time.
How have you found the quitting so far? Do you think the Champix have made it a lot easier? Are you getting any cravings?

Barb Tarbox was an amazing lady. Very inspiring to watch but brought tears to my eyes that her daughter was only 9. I have a 3 year old and cannot comprehend her ever having to grow up without me around.

Did watch a few other youtube vids which sounds really depressing but helps me to remember that these silly little white deathsticks really do cause illness and death.

Had a dream last night that I was just about to light a smoke when I suddenly remembered that I was a non-smoker. Gave me a bit of a shock!

DH said yesterday for the first time that he was so proud and had so much respect for me for being able to do this. Hopefully he will join me one day.

I still get these dreams 5 months on...don't worry about them hun...bighug.gif
Have a great day quitters and keep up the good work

underpressure how you feeling half way through day 1 ?
  • Love the idea of the mind pantomime :) I haven't even stopped yet and "oh no she wont" oh yes she will" has started. Its certainly going to be a challenge but one so worth while in the long run.

Tonights Eddie Mair take a leap was about a lady wanting to ride a tandem for charity on the 29th :D Think I would rather stop smoking

Good luck everyone and the countdown is now in single figures for me :T

I found a confidence boost from stopping nicotine. It really does the soul good to know that you can free yourself from its grip. It is a powerful drug & by saying NO, by stopping the cigs then you are proving to yourself that you are bigger than it.

I feel just the same. 56 days alcohol free and 26 days smoke free. Never in a million years did I think I could kick both habits - but I have and it's an incredible confidence boost to know that I can walk without them - not only walk without them but feel a million times better without them.

Thankyou Sue - as always for all your help and support - you are amazing and very missed :o xxx

Good luck to all :T and well done everyone who's staying smoke free.

And viv (sorry I'm rubbish with names, hope I've got the name right) your leg story is amazing.... well done you for stopping in time :T

LOL Binary is everywhere, in your mp3 tracks your digital photos you would be amazed :)

The signature comes from last year which was my first year on my tech degree with the Open University, it tickled me at the time and kind of stuck I suppose, the irony about it is that I am far from the greatest mind on binary anyhow :rotfl:
Fabulous idea and well done :T:T

underpressure how you feeling half way through day 1 ?

Day 1 was interesting, the good new I DID IT :) Which I am still astonished by, I did go the whole day without smoking, I thought about it quite a lot, the bad panto in my head was there all day nut non the less I succeeded, day 1 gone bring on day 2 :)

I mentioned yesterday in my post that I had found an old audio copy of the Allen Carr Easyway quit smoking book, I have to say I wish I had read this book years ago and have been kicking myself for not doing, the book is fantastic, I related to everything he said in so many ways, I bombarded myself yesterday with it so by last night my head was all over the place, this morning I woke up a bit groggy but when I had actually woken up properly it was all so clear, this book changed everything, I was determined already and had a great mindset from the Champix but this book just kind of I dont know I cannot explain it, it all makes perfect sense now I can see why I failed before it was so dam obvious I cannot believe I did not figure it out myself! Anyone who has read the book will understand this next bit, as all I can say is:

"I know I will NEVER smoke again!"

Everyone who is trying to quit or thinking about it should read this book, really I do not usually go for stuff like this but this book is amazing that is the only word I can use to describe it. I had bot the PDF and audio version, I used the audio version and even now have it playing in the background as I type this.

I have also found a way where you can ALL lay your hands on a copy FREE! And it is legal as well :p All it involves is a a free trial from a company owned by Amaz!n and you can have a free copy of the audiobook. PM me for the details and links :)

Right onwards and upwards, today things seem a awful lot easier, I am happy to be quitting, this alone makes all the difference.

Still taking the CHampix, no side affects to report oh apart from a very very weird dream last night, making me shiver just thinking about it  I think I could have given up without the tablets now after reading the Carr book, I am still going to continue with them for the term of the course which I think is 3 months in total, but i know for sure now I will never smoke again!

Have a good day quitters keep up the good work :)

    PS:

I thought it might be worth mentioning, I now feel a bit of a numpty for this but here goes........

I had heard of this Allen Carr Easyway before and very wrongly of me assumed it was written by the numpty of the TV so immediately had no interest in it whatsoever, it was NOT written by said numpty just somebody who is unfortunate enough to share the same name as him :)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: sorry that was really funny but I do understand where you are coming from :)

Well done on your first day by the way :T:T:T really looking forward to reporting mine to you all

Eddie Mair update - tonights leap was a really lovely man who suffered from depression and panic attacks whos leap on the 29th was to go on the bus to swansea:) he hadn't been on the bus for 4 years and he was so inspiring. Very humbling stuff to hear of everyones goals. I will be thinking of the agony he will be going through to step on that bus to make sure I dont give in to my panto of the mind

well done everyone and thanks again
    29th Feb Quit Day :j
  • Underpressure :T:T:T:T well done you on day one.
I totally agree with you about the Allen Carr book - absolutely top banana book. If there is one book that everyone should read just to make sure they never smoke again - it's that one. I cannot believe that I smoked for 26 years, telling myself that I needed to - stress etc etc......and then one little book can blow the whole idea apart - infact nicotene does absolutely nothing for you at all

Hope everyone is enjoying a smoke free evening :)
