  • Hi guys - no time to read the last few days of posts (really should be in the shower now!!!) but wanted to just weigh in and say today is the day I have decided to give myself the gift of no longer smoking! It has taken me all of this year to pluck up the courage (I gave up last year and then fell off the wagon after 6 1/2 months...)

Will be going cold turkey so need to find some distractions for the first few days. Really wish Sue was around as I usually go up the wall in the first month & she is always so soothing

Ok that shower's not going to happen by itself! Will pop back later and read recent posts and "get to know you all"

wish me concentration guys (can feel it ebbing away already..) x

Well done on your first day by the way :T:T:T really looking forward to reporting mine to you all

Ha ha ha and that is after owning both version of the book for some years! That is how much attention I had paid to it, crikey feel a bit numb now lol :)

Underpressure :T:T:T:T well done you on day one.
I totally agree with you about the Allen Carr book - absolutely top banana book. If there is one book that everyone should read just to make sure they never smoke again - it's that one. I cannot believe that I smoked for 26 years, telling myself that I needed to - stress etc etc......and then one little book can blow the whole idea apart - infact nicotene does absolutely nothing for you at all

Hope everyone is enjoying a smoke free evening :)

It really was an inspiration and revelation all rolled into 1, I am usually very sceptical about this kind of thing but really I am kicking myself now for not reading or listening to it years ago!

Hello :) 2nd time lucky at least you know what to expect, you have done it before you will do it again ;)

Keep us updated and the very best of luck to you.

Today for me is day 3 smoke free yiphheeeeeeeeeeeee:T

I am absolutely delighted and very surprised, I really did not expect to actually quit, that sounds stupid doesn't it? Maybe you can relate to this, in the past I have been full of the bestest intentions, with lots of determination but still in the back of my mind I never actually expected to quit, I was always expecting to fail and even in the early part of my attempt I would be mentally preparing myself for the immanent failure and even justifying it! That was the problem all along! grrrrrrrrrrrrr How completely stupid we can be sometimes!

I am really please but easy it is not, well it is easier than it ever has been thanks to Champix and also Allen Carr but it still requires will power, or at least for me it does, I had a huge wobbler last night, as all I wanted was a fag and could not get it out of my head, I was sat here thinking 1 will be fine go on, then the strong part of my mind was saying nope nope nope, then the little nicotine monster would say oh ok then just have half that will be ok, got down to just a quick puff in the end! I stayed strong though and resisted it was very difficult though I have to say, I am proud of myself for not giving in though but it was difficult!

Onwards and upwards bring on day 3 :)

Have a great day quitters and keep up the good work :)

Hiya determined :hello:and absolutely wonderful to see you back with us!! So, well over 6 months last time, but this time it's for GOOD, we'll make sure of that...so long as you keep armed with a good quantity of willpower and determination!

Is it worth you getting yourself a copy of Alan Carr's Easyway or have you already gone through that? I can't remember, but will go back to GUS 2 to check perhaps if you've not replied before.

BTW, we will TBTT as you suggested earlier!!!!! :D;)

Hi Chrissie! Good to see you doing so well, it must be the tap dancing releasing all those endorphins into your brain that's helped (seriously). If we all did something like that, we'd be a lot happier and quitting for ALL could be a doddle! Keep at it Chrissie!

Well done crazymum, Underpressure, Need to change, paidinchickens and Money maker!!!!! Also Davey and Denis!!

Keep up the amazing work that you're doing so well with - and let nothing or no one stand in your way - they have no right!!!

yay! :j so good to hear from you! I know you hear this all the time and deflect it all the time but its sooo good to hear from you and know your on my side while I'm going through the next days/weeks and months until I get on an even keel. Thank you so much for the amazing service you offer us all so selflessly! :A

Have had a good first day I'm please to say. Not had any bad cravings, but do feel a little spaced out. Its such a weird thing - have been in dread at stopping (nearly said giving up" tut tut tut!), even last night felt really sad and nearly went and got some on my way home as I knew I only had 1 cig at home. But thought "NO!" and just smoked that and went to bed. That's the weird thing isn't it? Its so scary to lead up to but when you do it its not that bad???!

Have a hankering for a curry so think I will go make a vege curry, do some cleaning (keep busy) and then go for a swim and a sauna.

Lots of love & wishes of health and determination to us all xxx

ps Sue re TBTT so glad to hear it x

Hello determined new ms  I am going cold turkey too so any tips you have in your week ahead of me please share :D

One thing I am planning to do is completely change my routine which at the moment is get up really early sit and watch bbc news with a cup of tea or 2 and a fag or 5 :o From Weds I plan to make my tea then take it back to bed for a while watching the news upstairs (currently never smoke upstairs) oh and probably take myself an extra half an hour kip time to replace the fag time :):) bonus
I am also waiting for a new car so that will be a real motivation to not inhale as many fags as I can on the way to work and back.

I will post any others I think of but good luck to you and lets all stick together :D

SueU thanks again for your thoughts - you are a lovely person thats for sure

  • Hey needstochange! The only thing I can say is just do it! It is honestly easier once you have taken the plunge than in the lead up to it. As I said I nearly crumbled last night & bought some more tobacco on my way home but strengthened my resolve as I really do want to kick this filthy habit.

Sue's email is a wealth of tips that have helped so many people (do you have a score Sue of how many people you have helped quit?) refer to it often and try out the suggestions there are bound to be several that work for you

I know I need to be mindful of not eating loads of carp so today have just eaten my normal food amounts, a couple of apples, drank water & have just made myself a yummy vege curry. I will try to exercise most days - but am trying to do that for health reasons.

The next hurdle will for me be going to festivals. Gonna have to find some strategies for that as that was how I fell off the wagon last year

I really found this thread to be the most wonderful tool for helping me stop as there was always someone around to encourage, support and at times give me a stern talking to!

You will be grand next week, just take the leap - I promise you won't regret it x

NTC, changing ones routine, I believe, is the answer to making quitting so much more possible, so much easier too as we then don't have the association times.

Thoughts of that new car will also be great motivation, you have much to be excited about, not least of all are thoughts of gradually getting your health back and feeling almost like a new person; at least it did with me. Also that feeling of achievement is worth so very much....great pride at all I'd accomplished, even now I still get a real buzz at having thrown nicotine right out of my life for 13 plus years!!!

*There may be one or two tips below to help you both.

Well done on not buckling last night, determined as with most things in life, exams, operations etc, anticipation is far harder than the event itself. You've got a while to try to sort out plans of what's best for you when you go to the festivals, I'll put my mind to things (if possible) too, anything to keep you free from those blasted things and from falling off the wagon again.

Don't forget right now that you can start each day with the Quitters Pledge remember?
    Quitters Pledge

"Today I promise not to smoke any cigarettes, tomorrow - if I wish - I may do."
Renew the pledge every morning on waking.
This helps in not making quitting feel as though you're planning something lifelong, it helps trick the mind in taking it all one day at a time. The lifelong part you determine for yourselves when you're ready. :):)

Also, use your imagination well to keep that revolting smell in your mind of lots of butts in a dirty ashtray or put in a jam jar with a little water. See it, take a smell.....! Revolting isn't it!!!

Anything YOU believe will make it easier to get through - do it - it doesn't matter what it is as you don't have to tell anyone so go for it and achieve your dream! :)

determined, I'm starting a list now of all members who have quit with us on all three threads, I've got to 15 so far and counting. I'll let you know just as soon as I'm sure I've included everyone.

Well done girls, this is a really marvellous undertaking, you're giving yourselves a gift - the gift of LIFE - YOURS!!!

I wish you all you wish yourselves, for anyone else looking in too.
