Hi healthy gang
so good to be in a gang :T
Day 3 has been good in lots of ways - definitely easier than day 2 & 1, but have been having some personal issues which has meant the thought of smoking/going and buying some cigs has been on my mind. But then I grab hold of myself and remind myself that the problems aren't going to go away because I am smoking & I will just still have all of that and the issue of the smoking as well!
so been thinking about my reasons for giving up and really its I just don't want to do it anymore. Obviously there is the health issue, but to be honest I have been pushing that out of my mind. I often am worried about the smell and generally feel a little icky which I haven't felt since I've stopped. Have been embarrassed that I have been out of breath recently even after a short walk up hill. I have started a new job recently and there is a woman there who has had a stroke and still continues to smoke, which really freaks me out. So those are my reasons, nothing major but enough for me to think that's enough.
I actually have noticed I haven't been spending loads of money since I stopped :j
Happy weekend guys. Lets all keep going, we've come this far and that's amazing :T
(Sue I felt a stab of something when I saw kiwisaver's stats about 10ish pages ago - If I hadn't been so stoopid my smober stats would have been that impressive. Oh well this time next year rodders) x

Hi gang memberwe need hoodies and a tattoo now :rotfl:
Well going through all of my lasts now - last Saturday of smoking is todays
Good idea to focus on the reasons. Mine are many but the main ones are wanting to join the vast majority of people i know now who dont smoke and dont need to smoke. Money is a good one but truth is if I really want to smoke I can afford it so that is not a major driver for me although obviously seeing a far healthier bank account will be a bonus
Others include:
My new car will stay new smelling for a while
My house and clothes will smell sweet
I wont have to go to a scanky bus shelter during work
I will not be dependant on this awful drug
I will have more time in my life for doing things i want to do
If I am honest my concerns remain that I will put weight on (I know there are options but sorry ice pops are not going to hack it for me) other than that I pretty confident I will get through this along as I can manage my panto. Will be doing my own version for silk quit because it doesnt work on my computer and that will be a motivator.
Nice day planned today with lunch in town with friends who dont smoke so will be having a few hours off already.:T29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -

Brilliantly noted, NTC!!!!! :j It's one thing to note these things happened before, but it's quite another thing to say "NO, I'm not going to let it happen again this time!" and stick by it. You're doing really great NTC, and isn't it wonderful to wake up every morning and know this new person is about to tackle yet another fresh day at getting the normal you back again!!! It's a lot to be so very proud of!! :grinheart
I've never heard of your Eddie Mair, but you obviously enjoy listening to him; wonderful news of the chap coming back from Afghanistan! Keep the things you find pleasure in close to you, they're good to focus on.

Though I understand what you mean, determined, never mind about Kiwi's stats or what might have been, it's now that matters and last time wasn't the right time - now is! Keep in mind though that you don't want to come back next year and see all the other gang members having quit a year ago!!!!!
Becoming short of breath on any exertion was when I knew I had to give up, it's horrible and if you're with anyone else, then yes, it can be embarrassing. You'll soon find it so much easier after quitting.
It's hard to believe that anyone who has suffered a stroke would still wish to continue to smoke, unless her mind can't fully realise the dangers, I know that can happen with stroke victims. We all lessen our chances of anything like that when we stop and then stay quit. Keep that poor lady in your mind, determined, you never want to risk becoming like her!
If spending money in the short term helps you then do so, just be sure you need it, not just want it. You deserve to treat yourself anyway as you're doing marvellously! So, this is Day 4 now and all that nasty nicotine has left your system, you know that, so from here on just keep knocking the dirty little blighter that may still exist from your mind, he has no right to hang about anymore! Physically knock him down onto the ground, tread on him and squash the living daylights out of him as you walk proudly on, head held high. :grinheart Use the same tactics for anyone in life who bugs you too, I do and it's a great feeling when you tread hard on your toes and swivel your foot to and fro, squashing them to the ground. Works even better it it's a puddle! :rotfl:
Yes it is good to be in a gang, you all have the same desire and the will to reach it is so much easier as it's fed and nurtured by the words of others doing the same.

NTC, determined and all other gang members, please write down all the reasons why you wish to quit and make them visible in more than one place in your homes, it's a little extra help for when you might feel a little vulnerable.

Just seen your latest post, NTC, some very good points too. What's wrong with Ice Pops/Poles? Is it the cold or......? Have you ever tried one? They're long lasting and will keep you further away from adding on weight.
You and your scanky bus shelterstill, if that sort of image helps the so be it.
Have a lovely day out and really enjoy yourself and your new found freedom in your fresh gang.

Morning gang
:D
Non smoking is going great at the moment, had a little " I need a fag" moment this morning but it poked its head from nowhere and quickly went.
The trigger was a habbit/auto response I think. I have constantly told the kids to make sure they don't leave dirty hand prints all over the dishwasher while putting their plates away as I can't bend to clean it. For some reason the level the hand prints get left is just the right height for me not to be able to reach. Can't bend and to high to sit on the floor to reach up. I have asked if they do the cloth is on the side and just wipe them off please .......... Told DH to check as it sets like concrete especially porridge and he said "no its fine" went into kitchen and hand prints everywhere :mad:
Now I don't know if it is because I am ill and in a lot of pain or that I haven't had a fag and may be a little touchyor what but it peed me off and the first thought was grrrrrr I want a fag. It hit me from nowhere so think it was an auto response to me getting peed off.
I realise just how much extra time I have now. Everything used to be " I'll have a fag first" and probably not just one fag either so all these 10 mins add up to where I probably wasted 2 hours a day
I am at the clinic on Wednesday for my back so hopefully they will give me some pain killers that work or at least knock me out. I really really really need to lose some weight as it does affect my back terribly. I have gone from 8.5 to over 9.5 stone already :eek: any more and I won't be able to walk from carrying the extra
Sorry for the mardy post it was not meant to be but only a glimpse of what I am worrying about at the moment. Dirty hand prints eh???? If that is all I worry about today then I'm a lucky lady :rotfl::rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl: thanks sue my skanky bus shelter is probably a good representation of actually what smoking is all about for me now so yes I may take a picture of it and post it for you its pretty horrid
Ice pops i had by the million when i was younger but dont really do anything cold now (apart from white wine of course) I really do think there is no point for me in saying have this to replace that otherwise I will end up regularly "treating" myself and trust me I am good at that
Truth is I need to handle this as an adult and realise that I am not giving anything valuable up.
Ill stop boring you with eddie mair stories on Weds I promise but if you should be curious its on Radio 4 from 5.30 pm29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -

It isn't a mardy post at all, PIC, but even if it is to you, then that's ok as we always folk to state their feelings, good or bad is fine, if it helps you in writing it, as is often the case, then just go ahead - we can take it!
You still do sound as though you're in a heck of a lot of pain, though to be honest, what with one thing and another over the past few weeks (!!) I'd forgotten all about your problems; I'm so sorry, PIC, it just became so difficult to keep up with who was who. At least now it'll sink in a bit better. I do hope they're able to help you with the pain when you go to the clinic. That helps account for your post too, after all if you're in pain that's bad enough, but add to that porridge prints on the washer and DH not even seeing them then one thing leads to another and off you go. I'm sure we've all been there sometime or another, so can understand a little of what you mean. Keep on writing about it, it'll help and we will listen and answer!
That is some weight increase you've had  and so quickly too! Is it solely through eating extra or because you can't move around too well due to your back? My DH suffers terribly with his back since falling off a hay wagon when he was 16 and at it's worst he can't so so much then adds on a little weight and suffers more! A no win situation! If yours is due to eating extra, then up the fruit and veggies - and - can I interest you in some Ice Poles/Pops? Long-lasting, cool and refreshing, help with weight loss?? If not how about increasing fruit like apples as they take a while to eat and last a while. Nibble slowly on just a
handful of almonds or walnuts a day, try some sunflower hearts too, little nibbly bits last a good while longer than others. Ryvita too??
All the very best, PIC and if you need/want a sounding board, you've got it. :kisses3: virtual {{{hugs]]] too!

Oh that'd be right wouldn't it, there's me now hanging onto his every word and you're about to turn the switch on him! :undecided Great!
I see what you mean about your skanky bus shelter, NTC, if it's a reminder to you of a real hatred to everything about fags, then keep the image (and smell) at the forefront of your mind. Be careful about the time of day you take a photo of it or word will soon get round that you get turned on by the place!
Ok then not another word about Ice pops. :silenced: I understand about not wanting to replace one addiction for another, very wise too, it was just an idea of something to suck on for a while that wasn't fattening. I'll leave that to you then, or was it you that is having the Ryvita? No, you're certainly not giving anything valuable up, the reverse is true as you'll only ever gain from saying ta ta to nicotine.
A lovely day here and I hope you're all enjoying the same. The washing's still blowing on the line and DH & I are going to have a cuppa. Enjoy your day everyone...isn't it good to have it nicotine-free!!!All best wishes to one and all,

It was me on the ryvita Sue, just to add that no matter how yummy it looks, avoid the Sesame version, it's rough:D
Going well here but so ashamed last night when sorting a very old laundry pile in my kitchen. Did the clothes smell horrible and that's what I've been dressing my children in. I have really let them down in the past with my nasty habit. No more smoke in my house - ever!

moneymaker I know what you mean with the smelly clothes thing last time I gave up I had to rewash nearly everything in my wardrobe to try and get rid of it so may pick up some extra washing powder for next week

Last Sunday of smoking today lots of cleaning to do as usual so will be a busy one and then tonight is a night out with one of my smoking friends. I broke the news to her I was packing in and she seemed good about it in fact she did make me laugh though because it would seem she wouldn't smoke either if it waAsn't for me :rotfl: interesting as last time i gave up she carried on as normal so we shall see. Good to take personal responsibility eh
Another last today will be chucking my hard earned dosh away at the fag kiosk going to get enough till tueday night and thats it :T:T
Hope you all have a lovely smoke free Sunday29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -

I am so glad you saw the light and came back to the fold again. Well done so far, you've done the hardest bit already.
I don't remember who it was that lost lots of weight last year, all I can say with any confidence is that is wasn't me. :rotfl: Still, I am getting there and I have shifted half of it since New Year without doing anything too radical.Mortgage
