Follow the posts you make and see just how far you go so quickly, it helps remind you that it really is possible.Try this pledge to yourself every morning: "I'm not going to smoke at all today, but tomorrow - If I wish, I could smoke as much as I like." Then renew it the next day and so on. Oh what a wonderful life you have ahead of you!
Forgive me for not replying to your PM for the other board, but tonight has all been about catching up - or trying too.

Hi all,
Well I have passed the 10 day point which is as far as I have ever gone before.
However yesterday was quite hard. Firstly I had cut down to Step 3 patches on day 9 (I have gone from 40+ cigs per day, through patches stage 1 and 2 and onto stage 3 in just nine days).
I also had quite a long drive down south to see some friends for a few days yesterday. When I was on 'the weed' I used to smoke in the car and also whenever I stopped for 'a fag break'.
Obviously I'm not smoking in the car nowadays - it has been valeted so smells lovely. However I needed to stop a few times on my way down south - this was where it got difficult. My mind kept thinking I was due a cigarette as a 'reward' for not smoking in the car!. Silly I know but everytime I stopped on the journey I got the same thought.
I did resist the urges though but to be honest I could have easily been swayed to buy 10 cigs. I know that if I had, the last 10 days would have all been for nothing though which is probably why I didn't 'give in'.
I don't know whether yesterday was due to going onto the smaller patches too quickly or what. But it was the most difficult day I have had so far. Still I survived cig free which is something I suppose.
I am driving back home tomorrow and am dreading the journey. I know I will have to stop a couple of times (to take medication which I must take at certain times). I am not sure whether to go back to a step 2 (larger) patch for the day or what?. Any advice welcome?

hey tallyho that's fantastic! I do know what you mean about the car, I was a right fag-ash-lil in my car and found a 2 hour journey really difficult! How about treating yourself to your fave perfume and then you can have a wiff everytime an urge hits you? x

Hi Tally,
Such wonderful news to hear that you've gone further then ever before! Whatever you do - don't let that go. It sounds to me as though, at this difficult time, you could well do with going back up to a step 2 patch, I certainly would rather than risk it, even if it's only for a day or so. When you've quit completely you'll find that times such as what you've experienced will be little more than a distant memory that flit in and out again, almost without you realising that "ah, the feeling went".
Just as with nicotine and the actual fag habit, so too are all the things you've gradually associated with your life, and they'll all gradually peter out, but for now how about getting some sweets to suck on the way back. Anything that will help. When you stop for your medication breaks, take long, slow breaths of air in and out til your mind gradually drifts onto things such as "what a flash/weird car!". You'll be ok Tally, I'm sure of it - there's too much at stake for you to let yourself down now - and some how I don't think you will. Bon Voyage, Tally, take care and drive safely home fag-free!

Incidentally, Tally - take a bottle of water for the journey if possible. Take sips if you're able to, if not have some when taking your breaks.
Thanks a lot, DNM, you're so very kind. I'm getting there, thanks.
Excellent news jinty, it's always so wonderful to hear both hubby and wife have stopped as you can then support each other through it all. You know you can both do it and I've no doubt you will....so much to look ahead to!
Morning Mat, I hope your fag-free world is a good one.
Have a super day everyone and don't let anyone come between you and your desire to quit!!

I know its the most depressing thing about having been soooooo frugal (I used to get duty free tobacco £6.50 for 50grms and that would last 5 days) I feel sooooooo envious of people saving huge amounts of money. But anyway its still £11.55 in my pocket and not someone elses! :jDF as at 30/12/16
