  • Welcome Misskaytee and circus! I can only echo the good advice given so far. Yes, stopping smoking is very difficult..........nicotine is more addictive than heroin. QUOTED FROM MY LINK ON PREVIOUS PAGE......
Nicotine is one of the fastest-addicting drugs known to man - it addicts you even faster than Heroin. ONE CIGARETTE IS ENOUGH TO REKINDLE THE OLD ADDICTION.

The thing to remember is that by stopping smoking you may suffer temporarily..............by continuing to smoke you will suffer permanently.

Sally I'm thinking of you................hope you're feeling ok.
Hi everyone and hi circus (I think fear of stopping stopped me stopping in the past iyswim? but now I have I realised there's nothing to be afraid of - yes the withdrawal is hard the first few days but after that its ok more just retraining urself to do other stuff)

ok I have an achievement I want to share (read celebrate) with you. I have had a very trying day my car has broken and I am waiting for the garage t come and tow it tomorrow so no doubt that will severely dent my bank account, I received an unpleasent email from my brother who I emailed after 2 years of not speaking to him, and I had to havew a filling. I felt vey sorry for mysef but I didn't think of having a cig but instead went to the gym with oh after work :T get in! I am up for this challenge!!!! :j

Get you missus!!!! :rotfl: :T That was a HUGE test...........you are right to feel so very very proud of yourself!

see you all soon off to watch its a wonderfu life & eat sausage & mash :) (please come back sue I miss you so much!)

So do I :( I think she and hubby are not well from what she said.
Get well, Sue & hubby! xXx

Thanks Ross. To know you were on 40 a day is, to be honest, an encouragement.

I don't want to try again until I am certain I can do it this time. My self esteem hit the floor last time I started again.

The chemical addiction thing, I think I need to explain; when I am smoking at work or out with mates I notice that some can stand forever with the fag smoking away between their fingers..i on the other hand, power tab!!..suck it till I can suck no more!:D.....The act of actually having it in my hand is nothing to me, it is the nicotine and the nicotine only that i need.

i have tried patches and champix in the past...champix was great until..a good friend and my wife pleaded with me to stop taking them as they thought I was going loopy!! LOL

I DO WANT TO QUIT!!..more than anything, I don't really know what I am frightened of but, frightened I am......I wish i could just wake up one day and think, not for me today..not ever but, that will never happen..I am so dependable on the dreaded weed and I hate it!!!

This thread may help..we'll see. I will have a think about it.

BTW. I am in the forces and get prescriptions free so effectively I will save the Whole tenner a day...hang on..£310 per month...£ 3650 per year!!!...and yet I STILL BLOODY SMOKE. I don't know what other motivation I need..ridiculous!!

Circus, I admire your honesty, and I will be honest and say i was scared prior to my quit, that horrible thought that I WILL NEVER SMOKE A FAG AGAIN  but ya know what, once you get on your quit, that feeling goes, like yourself i could not sit/stand there and let my fag burn away, i was puffing on it from beginning to end like my life depended on it.... you have seen how much you can save, its an obscene amount to be setting fire to really isnt it??

In regards to your experience with champix, and going loopy, was it the champix or was that the real you not dumbed down by fags coming through (no offence intended with that one), everyone has commented on how much I have changed since i gave up the fags, im happier, more outgoing, louder lol, it does change you .... however I will be honest to quit smoking you HAVE to WANT to quit ..... the mojrity of us on here had the lightbulb moment when you just think 'this is it im going for it' it sounds like you have had that but your nerves are getting the better of you.

I really do wish you all the best, as I know what you are going through, I have been exactly the same prior to my many quits, its a hard thought knowing that you want to do something so life changing, but believe me, everyone on this thread and myself are proof that it can be done, can I just ask, does your wife smoke?

I hope you stick with us, even if its just for moral support whilst you come to terms with a quit etc, for as long as it takes.

Can't really give you any advice, as I've never used either, but I'm sure a 'patch expert' will be along to help you very soon.
