Evening all
Went to my Newleaf appointment this morning held at the local chemists, i was quite suprised when the chemist recognised me from my last quit attempt 2 years ago!
Ideally i wouldn't go to him has i didnt find him very helpful last time, but its the closest and ultimately im only going to him to get the NTR, not support.
Paid my prescription fee of £7.20, which seems very cheap considering the cost of the inhalers i got, OH is also quitting but he's doing the patches.
So were all set to quit smoking tomorrow, Im feeling ready but a little scared , last attempt i put on a stone in 1 month, unfortunatly i cant afford to put anymore weight on has im already struggling with my weight and need to lose at least a couple of stone!!
Now going to read over some of the links and see if i can download one of those quit ~ o ~ metre thingamejigs.
Well done everyone look forward to meeting and getting to know you all a bit better soon
Welcome Misskaytee, And congrats on taking that first step by getting your NRT products :T
We are a helpful bunch here, and will do all we can to help you through your quit, as in all honesty each and every one of us will know what you are going through, and will be here for you.
If you need to come here and have a rant or vent then please do, its what the thread is for, I would encourage you to read through this current thread, but also have a nose through the 1st and 2nd threads also, as you can get some very good hints and tips.
You can download the silk quit meter from one of my previous posts on this thread (i think it is on the page before this).
Dont worry if your NRT provider is not very supportive, as we are so we can nmore than make up for it :rotfl:
Will hubby also be joining us? or are we getting BOGOF lol
Wishing you the best of luck
Ross

Hello all! Just popping in to say hi! Today was hard work! Don't know if it was just having some difficult peeps to see today or the Monday blues but I really wanted a ciggy! Kept looking at my smoking app! Over 50 quid saved already and thought "do I really want to blow my good work so far?". I'm ashamed to admit it but I actually think what stopped me was that it was raining so hard I couldn't bear standing and getting wet. I just couldn't see the pleasure in it. I guess that must be progress as I'd be out there in a tornado puffing away before. I definitely feel better now and can totally relate to heretolearns post earlier! Also welcome to new peeps. Your quits keep me going! Happy smoke free evening to all of you!! XTRYING VERY HARD TO START SAVING!

Hi All.
I am absolutely desperate to quit this bloody habit!!..I am chemically addicted I am told! i.e, the habit of smoking ( hand to mouth) really doesn't bother me at all..all I know is that when I do quit I get an absolutely ridiculous surge of energy that is almost intolerable to others and I don't sit still. I last about 3 weeks and then get complacent and over confident and think one won't hurt!!
So, question to those who have quit ...can I really do this??..I would love to, I spend about £10 a day as I am on 30-40 a day!!
Cheers.

Hi Hattie, yes I would call that progress as like you i would have been out there in the pouring rain having a fag, but you didnt so that shows you are doing something right.
We all have bad days, but you have proved you can work through it
I also keep checking the app on my itouch as it keeps me remembering why im doing this

Hi Circus48, welcome to our thread,
First of all smokers have a chemical addiction to smoking, its what kept us all doing it for so long, whoever gave you that information is correct, but have told you in a silly way
Can I ask, how have you quit before? cold turkey? NRT? Zyban? Champix?
I like you was on 40 a day, and I have been smoke free for 59 days (i opnly know the days as i just looked at the app lol) I used champix, which i got through the nurse at my GP surgery, perhaps this may be a useful drug for you to use?
so instead of spending approx £10 a day, you could spend £7.20 (prescription) a week for 12 weeks, then be fag free.
When people quit smoking we all get a big burst of energy, its the energy we would of had anyways had we not dumbed it down by smoking (notice how non smokers always have more energy than you?)
I hope you do decide to quit, you know you can do 3 weeks, you say you have done it before ..... you can do this.
We are so very supportive here, and there are many of us that have quit so will know what you are going through when you do quit.

Circus if I can quit, anyone can. Have a good read through these giving up smoking threads to make you mind up which way you want to attempt it.This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Thanks Ross. To know you were on 40 a day is, to be honest, an encouragement.
I don't want to try again until I am certain I can do it this time. My self esteem hit the floor last time I started again.
The chemical addiction thing, I think I need to explain; when I am smoking at work or out with mates I notice that some can stand forever with the fag smoking away between their fingers..i on the other hand, power tab!!..suck it till I can suck no more!:D.....The act of actually having it in my hand is nothing to me, it is the nicotine and the nicotine only that i need.
i have tried patches and champix in the past...champix was great until..a good friend and my wife pleaded with me to stop taking them as they thought I was going loopy!! LOL
I DO WANT TO QUIT!!..more than anything, I don't really know what I am frightened of but, frightened I am......I wish i could just wake up one day and think, not for me today..not ever but, that will never happen..I am so dependable on the dreaded weed and I hate it!!!
This thread may help..we'll see. I will have a think about it.
BTW. I am in the forces and get prescriptions free so effectively I will save the Whole tenner a day...hang on..£310 per month...£ 3650 per year!!!...and yet I STILL BLOODY SMOKE. I don't know what other motivation I need..ridiculous!!£11K in 2011 :j cold hard cash !!!
