I also just wanted to say I see this thread as one big happy family, I feel as though I know you all. And, yes I too was a 'lurker' for about a month before I joined in and am I glad that I did. It has changed my life so far more than anyone could imagine. I have been to NHS smoking groups and tried 1-1 many, many times, it didn't work for me as we only meet up once a week so I worked out that I could smoke for the week and on the 'meet-up-day' I didn't smoke for a few hours so that my CO reading showed 'I hadn't smoked' or was very low. So yes, I cheated and now am
about that, but I am big enough to admit it. (I shall slap my hand in aid of you all
) It's taking me an essay to get to the point..On here there is so much help, info, encouragement, advice and knowing someone is always there to hold your hand along the way, and that you can talk to anyone and they are there for you. I could never cheat again, I just wouldn't do it to myself or to any of you. I am enjoying my life now. I just wish this thread was around when I was 16yrs old, my life could have been so different~I would have been a millionaire if only I hadn't smoked :rotfl:
I would encourage any 'lurkers' out there to join like (ross or was it JD, i'll have to check) it has been said 'we don't bite' (I'm vegetarian so you are perfectly safe :rotfl:) Please, please come with us on this fantastic journey, you won't regret a single minute, I don't I love it here
Better go or we will be on Thread-Part 4 be the time I've finished :rotfl:
Love to all
AZ xx
Some great posts - in particular from rmplc, determined new ms, azkaban, jammy and Pen (So impressed with your determination, Pen.)
Hope you've had a nice day Mat and :T on a whole week weed free grandmasam
What a fabulous post, Az! (including the bit I deleted for space's sake!)
Reading the above got me all emotional............when I first posted on here and had such lovely PMs and replies, that was what totally 'got' me then............the fact that someone cared. I sat there in front of my lappy in tears.
(The 'Oooohhh, isn't that lovely?' kind :rotfl:)
May sound a bit overdramatic to some, but it's the way I felt back then and still do.........knowing someone cares makes all the difference.
When I've sometimes not posted as I've been busy/away/no internet I've had PMs just to see if I'm ok. How nice is that?
I am as sure as I can be that without me subsribing to this thread I would be smoking again by now, thinking 'I tried to stop, but just couldn't'
And for that I'd like to thank everyone on all of the 'Giving up smoking' threads................I read the whole thread from day 1 when JO1972 started it and every single post has helped me.THANK YOU!Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

Hello all - I wonder if I could pop in.
I am on day one of quitting with patches.
I am 35 weeks pregnant and have been smoking on and off since I found out. This time around I have been smoking since October. I am a heavy smoker - about 30 a day.
Its hard but I want to be given up for when baby arrives.
Thanks
SallySally!
Well done on deciding to stop smoking and for posting on here!
It really is a very friendly place, full of support, laughter and advice.
Congratulations by the way....................and :j...............it won't be long before we have a 'thread baby'Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

Welcome, Sally. You have such a good reason to stop. Have a look at the first post on the thread and there are lots of links and tips on there.
I'm only 3 weeks ahead of you and never thought I could stop - 1 was a 30 a day smoker, too.
For me, it was going through this thread and the two which came before that sealed the deal. There were so many posts with little things I could relate to and tips to help with things that were going through my muddled head. Then I started posting and the support is amazing!
Rant, vent, celebrate every day (even every hour if you need to) and someone will be around who actually understands and has been through your experience. Good luck.
Well done everyone else :T:T:T
I'm watching the clock as I'm posting here and cooking dinner - it's OK, I'm a woman and we multitask all the time. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :ABut how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -

I now realise driving (or getting home from driving) is a trigger for me. I've never let any of us smoke in my car, but my main points the last couple of days have been driving home from somewhere and thinking that I'll have a fag as soon as I get in. Noticed it again today picking DS up from his friends in town.
Like hell will I - I need to get some stinky air freshener or something for my car to see if that will distract me.
ETA: day 9 - cold turkey
Is there something else you can think of that you could do/enjoy when you get home?Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

Hi Dundeedoll, I think it stems from the fact that week days I used to not smoke until I got in from work at 4pm. And to be honest the rest of the weekend etc I was always running round after someone that I went on hold until I finished running around/driving. (But weekends I would be up at 6.30 having a sneaky fag in the door way in my PJ's - how yuk is that!!!!)
Its different now, the one thing not smoking has helped me do is kind off step back a bit and delegate things cos I have a few minutes to think rather than be worrying about the next nico fix.
I might start annoying the kids I drive for by starting a sing-a-long in the car - lol, that should embaress a few of us xThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -

I'd sit on the patio beside the fish pond in my Dressing Gown with countless cuppas..............:rotfl::eek:

I used to do a car pool rota with 2 other mums and my son used to hate me driving as I'd sometimes sing along to the radio/cd and he'd be totally
x
My youngest gets home about 4.20pm and if I ever finished work early, I'd be bombing through the Cotswold lanes/hills to get home so I'd have enough time for a ciggie..............thinking back, I'd get really anxious looking at the clock...........hoping I'd get back by 3.50pm at the latest............How pathetic is THAT????? :eek:Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

I will read the threads you guys have mentioned and hopefully find some tips for times like now, when Im just sat slobbing watching TV
