The Giving Up Smoking Thread - Part 3

I think the best idea would be to stop making cigarettes altogether but I'm afraid that will never happen. We can only advice and hope they learn by our own 'mistakes'. I like to think DS would never take up the habit, I would be devastated if he did. My own parents never advised me about smoking, wished they had taken the time to talk to me about it
.
This thread is giving people a new lease of life and that's a good start. I can no longer think of 'good things' to associate with smoking, so things are on the up for me and hopefully many more.
AZ xx
Your right, we can only learn from mistakes, I am the same i hope my nephews and nieces do not grow up as smokers, but if they do I can only educate lol

luckily my ds is an avid non-smoker, he has never smoked and is imensely proud that out of all of his peers he is the only one who has never even tried a puff. He is 18 and is into being superfit so that helps, however my dd does smoke so I'm ashamed to say I didn't do my job well there and set a terrible exampleDF as at 30/12/16

Determined, please dont think like that, every person who begins smoking makes a concious decision to, my friend smokes yet neither of his parents have ever had a single puff, peer pressures comes into play also.
i bet you are a fantastic parent, and have set excellent examples, and now you have quit, your setting an exapmple to your DD that it can be done, as it was dd whom decided to smoke, you didnt force anyone to partake in it.Smoke free since: 13th November 2010

Please don't feel bad Determined, as we were saying (Ross and myself) we can only advise and educate people, even our own children. But they will make up their own minds on smoking. I have friends who smoke and their parents are non-smokers, I also have friends who don't smoke and their parents do smoke.. as said we can only advise and educate..I don't mean that in a patronising way
Remember how well you are doing and your DD may see your ways and decide to follow you. BUT you have not set a terrible example and I bet you do a fantastic job as a parent sending you hugs..:grouphug: as we all care about how you feel.

Nice one, Grandmasam :T
I now realise driving (or getting home from driving) is a trigger for me. I've never let any of us smoke in my car, but my main points the last couple of days have been driving home from somewhere and thinking that I'll have a fag as soon as I get in. Noticed it again today picking DS up from his friends in town.
Like hell will I - I need to get some stinky air freshener or something for my car to see if that will distract me.
ETA: day 9 - cold turkeyThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Hello all - I wonder if I could pop in.
I am on day one of quitting with patches.
I am 35 weeks pregnant and have been smoking on and off since I found out. This time around I have been smoking since October. I am a heavy smoker - about 30 a day.
Its hard but I want to be given up for when baby arrives.
Thanks
