determined_new_ms wrote: »ross I haven't found it too bad tbh - hardest thing was day 6 & 7 with feeling incredibly insecure and doubting myself/bordering on self hate - but I've had that before with patches/zyban so don't think that's anything to do with cold turkey. I think what has made it easier this time is without doubt this thread - I can't even describe how nice and caring and supportive it is (this is for the lurkers out there) and talking of supportive where's sue? I'm missing her lovely kind words! and also am quting with my oh and in the past I was single, there have been a couple of times when I have tested oh to see what he would say but he's like no!
I am struggling with the (psychological) weight issues - already!- but that's been standard whichever method I've used in the past and I have to keep reminding myself I have 2 priorities 1. getting well again and 2. staying smoke free - I can loose weight in the future and also I should learn to love being a bit more voluptuous
and on that note I'm gonna go for a run in a minute :j:j:j
Mat hope you have mucho laughter with ur bessie and a fab roast with your folks x
Hi Determined, I completely understand about the weight issue, and I have the same attitude, we can loose the weight after, i can imagine it now ... in a few weeks/months a mass exodus from smoking thread to a weight loss thread LOL
This thread has definately made it easier as its given me a place to vent if needed, and to just put my feelings down
I was thinking about Sue a minute ago thinking ive not seen her, hope she is ok?
Enjoy your run

Afternoon all, hope everyone is getting on ok.
Still smoke free here and now that DH has joined in too the house smells so different. I washed all my coats and anything that was smokey of mine last week. Think I need to start raiding his wardrobe now too.
I nearly threw it all away last night - had one of those family situations that drives me insane and I almost went out to the garden and lit up. But I put my stubborn c*w head back on and switched the kettle on instead. It was close but I'm not letting nasty nic trick me that easily. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Good Afternoon Everyone
My benefits: (so far)
9 days without Nico :T
150 cigarettes not smoked :T
Approx. £40 not spent :T
No cravings :T
Sleeping through the night :T
Filling my lungs with air (able to deep breath) :T
More time sitting down with DS :T
Not having to go out early in the morning before work, in PJ's to get ciggies :T
Being soooooo very proud of myself :T
Having DS sooooooo very proud of me :T
Knowing I am doing this and friends will not give it a go (tried, but they're not interested) :T
Spending my 'not spent' £40 on a mobile(cheap but it's my first present to myself since I was about 24yrs~so 20 yrs ago) I get it Tuesday & sooo excited~won't be able to work it  Sure DS will help me.
I also just wanted to say I see this thread as one big happy family, I feel as though I know you all. And, yes I too was a 'lurker' for about a month before I joined in and am I glad that I did. It has changed my life so far more than anyone could imagine. I have been to NHS smoking groups and tried 1-1 many, many times, it didn't work for me as we only meet up once a week so I worked out that I could smoke for the week and on the 'meet-up-day' I didn't smoke for a few hours so that my CO reading showed 'I hadn't smoked' or was very low. So yes, I cheated and now amabout that, but I am big enough to admit it. (I shall slap my hand in aid of you all
) It's taking me an essay to get to the point..On here there is so much help, info, encouragement, advice and knowing someone is always there to hold your hand along the way, and that you can talk to anyone and they are there for you. I could never cheat again, I just wouldn't do it to myself or to any of you. I am enjoying my life now. I just wish this thread was around when I was 16yrs old, my life could have been so different~I would have been a millionaire if only I hadn't smoked :rotfl:
I would encourage any 'lurkers' out there to join like (ross or was it JD, i'll have to check) it has been said 'we don't bite' (I'm vegetarian so you are perfectly safe :rotfl:) Please, please come with us on this fantastic journey, you won't regret a single minute, I don't I love it here
Better go or we will be on Thread-Part 4 be the time I've finished :rotfl:
Love to all

Well done Penelopee, they are horrible situations to be in, but to know you wanted to have that fag, but didnt, you must be so very proud of yourself, and you have every right to be :T
Deep down you knew how much hard work you would have thrown away, and now that OH has joined you it will hopefully make things a little easier.
Well done you

Oh Az, you do make me laugh, but isnt it a nice feeling to know that just by giving up that one habit, you can afford to treat yourself every now and then, thats what I like.
How brave of you to admit you cheated your way through the NHS and 1:1 sessions, but im sure we have all done it, I cheated throught the 1:1 as you say it was 1 day a week lol
Im so pleased you have come so farisnt it strange to think that as a smoker you would have smoked them 150 ciggies without a second thought, but now as a non smoker you can understand exactly how many that is!! shocking really
Well Done

It is shocking, Ross. I have a mental image of those ciggies and it is not nice. I have taught DS the financial side of smoking, he knows all the dangers, but I personally think children should be taught that in schools. We do teach about all the harmful stuff of cigarettes and drugs but not how the money side can ruin your future. If they are taught that half their wages goes on cigarettes and the rest on bills maybe that will be an incentive for them to not start smoking.. (does that make sense?) If I ruled the world it would be a non-smoking/vegetarian planet :rotfl: and we would all be happy
BTW Good to see you back

Its quite horrifying when you think that in a couple of weeks you have not smoked x amount, makes me wonder exactly how many I smoked as a smoker - does not bear thinking about
Which uni does DD attend? hope the snow eases for you

You right Az, the mental image isnt nice, disturbing actually lol
I like your idea, but would it actually stop people from smoking?

I think the best idea would be to stop making cigarettes altogether but I'm afraid that will never happen. We can only advice and hope they learn by our own 'mistakes'. I like to think DS would never take up the habit, I would be devastated if he did. My own parents never advised me about smoking, wished they had taken the time to talk to me about it.
This thread is giving people a new lease of life and that's a good start. I can no longer think of 'good things' to associate with smoking, so things are on the up for me and hopefully many more.
