The Giving Up Smoking Thread - Part 3

This has put me off posting
Just thought I'd say that....even if it's about maintenance nicotine surely this is better than cigs?
And it's early days.....
So don't know if I'm welcome on here or not....quite scared of this thread now because I'm not able to go 'cold turkey'. I got bullied on another thread last year and I'm not going through that again. The main reason I chose the e-cig is cos I need more than 20mg of nicotine a day initially - Hence I went with the e-cig cos the max fluid is 32mg (which I dilute down to about 24mg)...and there was no way I was going back on the spray. The spray is worse than the e-cig.
Actually if you're hooked on the vapour you only get decent vapour for about the first 20 minutes. Not wanting to waste juice I'm trying to not make it a big deal quickly and trying to make sure my cart is completely (near enough) dry before I change it...so aiming for about 3 carts a day right now...
Yes it's been tempting cos I did like the taste of cigs and when I need nicotine I NEED NICOTINE. Obviously it takes a tad longer with any form of inhalator but the snail wins the race
Still have a prob with sleep - dang but had that before I started to quit. Noticed the toastie at the toastie club last night tasted burnt - then double checked it LOL.....And Mr A smart price hot choc tastes better than ever
So that's my wee disocoveries....alas not all my friends are being 100% supportive and I am a tad more sensitive than normal but I guess that's withdrawal from the 101 other nasties in cigs besides nicotine..
E
Hi Erme,
I'm not sure why you viewed my response to you as me possibly making you feel unwelcome here as, no matter what the individual choice to use to quit is, it's the choice of the individual and what's best for them - but it most certainly does not mean they're not welcome to get full use from this thread while they're each quitting. I'd be one of the first to welcome anyone on the thread, in fact it does my heart good to see another member joining us, and hope they too will do what they set out to do and quit smoking altogeter.
You're as welcome as the next person, erme, I can't say further than that, but I still stand by what I said the other day in saying that I have know personal knowledge of e-cigs, so I obviously can't help at all with regards to them, and wouldn't even try. We don't advocate their use to people seeking advice about them, how can we if we're not knowledgeable about them?!
I also still believe that for the vast majority of people that come here e-cigs are very seldom even considered to be their means of quitting, if anyone does ask on here about them it's only out of curiosity "what do you think about e-cigs?". We're honest which is the best thing to be. It's also firmly believed that they mimic the real thing far too closely and that for most folk it might well induce them to drift back to the real thing.
However, for you, you think they're your best means to be able to quit in which case - go ahead and get any benefits from them that can be had with the purpose to get rid of them and be fag (any sort) free asap - though without leaving yourself too vulnerable. You're as welcome as everyone else on here, erme - and NO - ONE would ever think of bullying you or being nasty in any way! It's not in the nature of those who help on here to do so and we have never had once instance of it!!
All the very best with quitting, erme, I truly wish you well.

sue thank you so much for my email yesterday, you are really kind and its really nice at a time when ppl coming here are feeling a bit vulnerable. I am much happier today and that is so much better! after today I've been quit a whole week :j and I honestly believe this thread and especially all the kind words of encouragement from you (and others) have contributed to this success for me - never in all my tries have I previously been able to quit cold turkey so thank you.
Oh and I just wanted to say I hope you and ur dh had a lovely anniversary yesterday (he he he I had to spill the beans I'm afraid!), it seems to me ur dh was very lucky to nab u :ADF as at 30/12/16

phew today (and of course yesterday) have got to have been the hardest days for me by far! This month due to the expense of last month (and having to get our tv aeriel fixed to the tune of £200 earlier this week, and now my car has to go into the garage tomorrow  and also we go to Morocco in a month's time :j:j:j) we are trying not to spend any cash this month. However not thinking this is the best time to be not going out/spending cash when I'm going through so much anyway! But am sooooooooo bored! Think I will go and blitz the kitchen and then go for a walk - on my own as oh is tucked up in bed not feeling too great again
6 days 7 hrs 13 mins since my last cig, saved £8.19, not smoked 127 cigs and have not wasted 10hrs & 30 mins of my life smoking :jDF as at 30/12/16

22 weeks 6 1/2 days Willpower/this threadHiyas all,
The big change now though is that when I first quit the smell of cigarette smoke was lovely. Now I cannot stand it. Coming out of Tesco there was a group of about 6 smokers and the smell was awful. God did I really smell like that?. I am not going to get all 'ex smokers are the worst' like but the smell aaaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!.
Tally
Look what I posted in October.............after being at Mr. T's
Exactly 13 weeks willpower/this thread
Well, as the title says, it's exactly 13 weeks (to the minute!) since I inhaled my last dose of nicotine.
They say that an ex smoker is worse than a non smoker, don't they? Well, whenever I go into town and people are smoking, it's the smell that hits me! It makes me feel totally sick and walking out from the supermarket yesterday straight into 'the fag fog' I literally was urging!
Tried hard 6 months ago to stop and couldn't manage a single day - the last 3 months however have been relatively easy.
My only advice to anyone reading this thread because they want to stop or to those that are at the beginning of their 'freedom from fags' journey is:
It is possible!
It does get easier!
IT IS WORTH IT!Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

Evening all, just popping in to say still non smoker. Feeling a lot healthier today, although next week's project is to sort the eating out as I am going to get into weight difficulties if I carry on like this.
Hope everyone else is doing ok xThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

Of course you're very welcome!
No need to be scared at all..........I'm not sure why you feel you have to go 'cold turkey' though. Everyone is an individual...........everybody's quit is different (Indeed no person's different quits are the same, if you know what I mean) and people on here use various different methods to ultimately achieve the same result.
I must admit, I know nothing about the e-cigarette and how it works to stop you smoking and have not seen anyone on either this thread or the previous one use it.
That doesn't mean you can't come on here and get the same fantastic support as everyone else............just that there wont be anyone that has used the same method as you are.
The main reason I chose the e-cig is cos I need more than 20mg of nicotine a day initially - Hence I went with the e-cig cos the max fluid is 32mg (which I dilute down to about 24mg)...and there was no way I was going back on the spray. The spray is worse than the e-cig.

Not wanting to waste juice I'm trying to not make it a big deal quickly and trying to make sure my cart is completely (near enough) dry before I change it...so aiming for about 3 carts a day right now...
Bearing in mind what I said above about my ignorance of the e-cig.........I'd like to try to understand how they work.
So you have a carton, which you fill with the 32mg (diluted with veg glycerine to 24mg) is this somehow attached to a 'cig' (oh and did you not mention batteries?) and then you 'drag' that. You say you're aiming for 3 carts a day right now (that in itself confuses me - see below) how many 'cigs' / 'smokes' do you get out of 1 cart?
I'm only questioning you like this because I really do want to understand - not questioning your decision to use this method.
And for the record guys is ERME not ernie or any other derivative....
Ta
E
So here is my unofficial (cos it's not NHS) nicotine withdrawal plan
Week 1 - have nicotine as required just don't OD
Does this mean smoke 'proper cigs' as normal?
Week 2-8 - find out what I need and stick with same dose till week 8.
Does this mean you'll decide : 'I need to smoke 12 cigs a day' so you will smoke 12 a day until week 8?
Week 8 - begin reduction using e -cig aiming to get to just vaping (smoking I guess) VG within 6 months
So from week 8 you start to use the e-cig (This is why I'm confused-above you say so aiming for about 3 carts a day right now...) and continue to use it until month 6? Then.............
6 month mark transfer to plastic cig if still need the action
Use just the plastic cig - is this literally just a dummy cig, no chemicals? - for 6 months
1 year max transfer to just mints
Self explanatory
It feels weird to write that out but anyhow...don't know how I'm going to reduce but I guess around week 3 or 4 I will note down the strength of the juice and how many times I'm refilling then dilute again to a weaker strength after week 8 using the VG....
And this makes me think I understood absolutely none of the above and got it totally wrong...................:(:rotfl:

Hi everybody :hello:
Another day of success :j Tomorrow will be 3 WEEKS smoke free. I've had my moments  but have come this far without any mayhem or murder - not even justifiable manslaughter
I've come round to the idea that there is the 'right' moment to quit, though I wish it had come sooner. I worked towards it for two months but the actual moment was quite spontaneous and so far (touch wood, cross fingers, etc.) has gone better than I anticipated after 40 years of Nic O'teen ruling my day.
There's a fair way to go yet and I am not counting my chickens but . . . .
I have just begun to feel more energy.
I don't watch the minutes or hours in the same way.
My sinuses have begun to clear.
I can smell things much more strongly (a mixed blessing).
Most importantly - I feel more in control.
I don't have to think ahead to when I can next have a cig.
I don't count how many I have left till tomorrow.
I haven't been to a shop for 5 days :T If I had needed to get cigs, I would have bought other things as well. I am so much more MS :j
Go,me!
Go, all of us!
We CAN do this. :T:T:TBut how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Evening everyone
Managed day 3, didn't feel the cravings so bad, but I have been so bad tempered and moody with everyone at home. Was quite weepy this morning too. This afternoon was better took dog out for a walk and did some baking with ds2. Went to shops today but not tempted to buy any.
Still taking 1 day at a time. Hope I'm not as crabby tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences, it really has helped not to feel so alone. Well done to everyone else that is suceeding in the quest to get rid of nasty nic.0 -
