I have been mixing and matching my " crutches " depending on how I have been feeling. Started off with patches and non-nic gum, but have not used a patch for the last couple of days, preferring an empty inhalator and ,again , non nic gum - not sure if that could be classed as Cold Turkey or not, but whatever it is called, it seems to be working, although I am still getting perhaps 1 or 2 difficult 30 min periods per day.I don't know much, but I know I love you ....<30

Well done Jinty you're doing famously, and yeah it could probably be classed as cold turkey now as you're not even taking a scrap of nicotine in
If it helps we all have bad moments, I had a wobbly moment just the other day which was terrifying! I think though that it was more the idea of having a cigarette being a stress buster which of course is completely rubbish. But it passed.
To the difficult periods getting less and less! <raises mug in salute>~Nym~

Gahhh, Saturday morning at work. It's seriously stressful. Be about this time I'd make a hasty exit for the bike sheds and a smoke or two.0

Don't forget to advertise those half price 'No-smoking products', Mat-Lock
Have a good day at work.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful smoke-free day
I got my Quit-Kit this morning and spent ages chatting to the postman, who told me he gave up 7 months ago and wished all good luck, ah how nice of him.

I work in IT not in advertising sadly. 10 minutes until lunchbreak...brisk walk to Asda to get some healthy snacks...bypassing the ciggie counter !0

Hiyas all,
I still cannot believe it is now over a week since I had the last 'dreaded weed'.
To those out there not upto a full week yet - I have found it does get easier. I am still on the stage 2 patches (of which I am on day 5) plus the empty inhalator.
I went to get some more patches this morning in Tesco. I couldn't find the ones I wanted on the shelf so spoke with the pharmacist. She was a bit sceptical when I asked for stage 3 patches (after only 5 days of stage 2) but I explained I had only needed stage one patches for 3 days, so she was very congratulatory which was a boost. I have 2 more stage two patches left - I think I will keep them for emergencies just in case I need to go backwards (I won't hopefully) but am determined to start with the stage three patches tomorrow.
The big change now though is that when I first quit the smell of cigarette smoke was lovely. Now I cannot stand it. Coming out of Tesco there was a group of about 6 smokers and the smell was awful. God did I really smell like that?. I am not going to get all 'ex smokers are the worst' like but the smell aaaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!.
I have still got the appointment with the NHS counsellor on the 18th of Jan - it seems ages away - but I have set myself the target of being off the patches by then. Can I do it???????????

Yep the smell is dreadful, I don't know how I ever liked it to be honest. Like you I'm very not anti smoking, but I would prefer not to stink of cigarette smoke is all. I bought only 9 weeks worth of patches, I did 3 weeks of Stage 1, 2 of Stage 2 and at most 2 of Stage 3, I got to the point where I'd forget to put the damn patch on so I figured I didn't need it - I've donated them to my ex housemate who is thinking about quitting again. Fingers crossed!
I would say personally that it's better to be on the patches seeing the NHS counsellor than struggling, so don't push yourself too hard... even if you carry a patch in your back pocket but don't use it at least it's there just in case. Don't give nasty nic a chance to get back in your head.
Very well done on the week down though! :j~Nym~

Good morning all.
I must be feeling a bit better about the whole quitting thing as I forgot to look at my Quit meter till I started this post! :j
Erme Of course you are welcome! The reason I joined this thread is because (having read right through from the beginning of the first thread) I found people here non-judgmental and willing to accept that we are all different. Good luck with your quit and stay strong.
Jinty I have found being flexible helps as well. I've been using patches part time and taking one off when I'm going out somewhere where I know I wouldn't have smoked before. It seems to work for me and I think I get satisfaction from feeling in control, if you know what I mean. I'm a bit of a control freak and I think that is what I hated about having to smoke.:(
Well done all of you. I can't stop longer as I have an ENORMOUS pan of soup on the stove to use up odds and ends of veg so I am feeling very smugly MS - and chopping up all those veg kept my hands busy for quite a long while. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Afternoon all,
Feel a bit rough today ,as if i've forgotten something and the brain cell is a bit foggy, still, i suppose that's to be expected and it's that $%^& gremlin called Nic trying to mess with me.
Washing on the line, bathroom cleaned thoroughly as is the kitchen ....and the cooker!! Amazing how much house work gets done when I'm not looking for the next excuse for a cig
A whole week breathing clean air!! I agree with the previous posters that the smell from people still on the weed is disgusting...and I was one of those

Afternoon All
So..I dug out a hand towel from the bathroom cupboard and can you believe I could smell smoke on it, it's amazing how the 'orrible stinky smell gets in everywhere. So I'm on a mission today to clean everywhere and wash it all.. I shall probably be gone for weeks
Now I feel really guilty because if the smell got there my DS must have thought (growing up) that was just how the place normally smelt! It didn't stink that much but even so..Being a smoker (then) I wouldn't have smelt it. I can safely say now that the house smells a lot better, just not the cupboards. Lots of cupboard emptying today and washing Nico out of my house.
Be Good Everyone
