Hello all - thnk you for your support yesterday.
I am on day 2 and feeling OK. Last few times I have given up I have struggled on day 2 and 3 more than day 1 so I am feeling a little apprehensive but also aware of these feelings and hoping that in going out of the house all day, and possibly going swimming tonight that I will be occupied enough not to smoke.
I was dreading meeting up with the ladies and smoking, but I actually think there is only one smoker out of us all - so I should stop worrying.
Anyway - Im off out soon and wanted to say a huge thank you to you all again, and I shall update later x

    Hello everyone and welcome Salski.

On Day 7 now, found Saturday really tough, I was like the anti christ ha ha, but felt better yesterday.

I also used to smoke in my car, so yesterday I cleared it of all cigarette buts and empty cigarette packets, will get in valeted next week LOL.

Got the all clear from Doctor on Friday, it was my lungs clearing and not chest infection. He was well impressed with my progress.

Morning Salski, Glad to see you have returned for day 2 :T a lot of people find days 2 and 3 the hardest, as on day 1 your mind thinks 'ah its one day' day 2 arrives and your mind thinks 'OMG  she is actually doing it' therefore your body will startplaying around with you and making you think that having one ciddy will stop all this madness, try as hard as you can to ignore these feelings, they will pass before you know it :)

LOL Debie, I love the anti christ comment, its a nice feeling when you get round to clearing the car out, makes it so much more permanent in a weird sort of way.

hope everyone is having a good day?

  • OMG I can't believe I haven't smoked for 10 days .... and the world didn't stop, I didn't completely fall apart and I can sleep all night without a cancer stick before bed :D I've just realised that is over a week (I am a bit slow with this sort of thing).

One of my best friends at work gave up Saturday too, so we've a mini support group at work now. Its nice to have someone to go and have a coffee with when everyone else goes off on their stinking fag breaks.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

  • Very well done everybody

Day 9 for me. The last couple of days have been a lot better, feel better physically (not so snotty) and not thinking about cigarettes as much.

But today has been hard. V. stressful at work and missing my 5 minutes peace and quiet outside hiding from everyone and enjoying a de-stressing fag. Really missing it. Had to give some staff some bad news today (no, not sacked them, not that bad :-) ) and had some difficult clients. Got too much work to do and can't fit it all in and also have a degree course assignment that has to be in by midnight and I'm only half done. Stress stress stress.

What can I do to feel better and stop thinking that what I really want is a cigarette =. I'm not going to give in, but just going outside for 5 minutes air isnt the same, or a cup of tea, or a biscuit.

Also - does anyone else find those anti-smoking 'give up' ads very unhelpful? I can be sitting there fine, happy as larry, and as soon as they come on and start talking about smoking, I want one!:rotfl:

Hi Heretolearn, well done on 9 days smoke free :T sometimes changing what you used to do is what is required to help, for example you say that going outside for 5 minutes isnt the same, well instead of going outside for 5 minutes, perhaps sitting with a book for a few minutes, or adding some words to your assignment?

I have to fully agree with you, the stop smoking adverts really annoyed me when i was a smoker, now as a non smoker they are most unhelpful....bleedin advert lol

I hope you get you assisgnment finished

    Hi all

22 days now and so chuffed. I threw a half awake wobbly last night. I woke up at around 2 and drifted and woke, tossed and turned, muttered and cursed for the rest of the night

In one half awake session I thought how well I was doing. Decided I had beaten it and so could now have a cig in celebration.:eek: It wasn't a 'craving', just a stupid thought. I woke all the way up and gave myself a good talking to. It's as if there were two people battling away in my mind.

As in all the best films, the good guy won:T:T:T

Topsyturphy Well done on your attitude to your Mum's challenge. I've succeeded in a lot of things by aiming to prove other people wrong!

Sally We non-smokers are the majority in most groups now. Just imagine how you would feel if you were still smoking and the other smoker had given up! Hold that thought!

Penelopedee I'm so glad the world didn't stop ;) You are doing so well. :T

Heretolearn Sorry to hear you are feeling stressed. It's not easy to cope with giving bad news to staff, especially as you are so busy. I'm not sure what to suggest except to say that venting here is a good idea - at least you are voicing how you feel and not bottling it up. Keep posting. Hammer those keys!

Everyone else  I haven't read the thread far back so I've missed some out, I expect. Sorry about that and I will catch up. It really helps me to hear how other people are coping and I pick up lots of insight into my own feelings.

    Cautiously confident, still.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?
  • :) Evening all

Went to my Newleaf appointment this morning held at the local chemists, i was quite suprised when the chemist recognised me from my last quit attempt 2 years ago! :o

Ideally i wouldn't go to him has i didnt find him very helpful last time, but its the closest and ultimately im only going to him to get the NTR, not support.

Paid my prescription fee of £7.20, which seems very cheap considering the cost of the inhalers i got, OH is also quitting but he's doing the patches.

So were all set to quit smoking tomorrow, Im feeling ready but a little scared , last attempt i put on a stone in 1 month, unfortunatly i cant afford to put anymore weight on has im already struggling with my weight and need to lose at least a couple of stone!! :o

Now going to read over some of the links and see if i can download one of those quit ~ o ~ metre thingamejigs.

Well done everyone look forward to meeting and getting to know you all a bit better soon :)
