Be careful about reducing meds, Erme, hadn't you better seek your Drs thoughts first?
Re the coffee, I was meaning cutting out for at least a few weeks, but I guess as long as it's decaf it's not so bad. Beware is all I'd advise.

Just need somewhere to post as despite sucking on a lozange I keep thinking how much better it would be to smoke a cigarette
Gave up on Saturday. This is the third time in 15 years I have quit
1st time - cold turkey back in 97. No money, just arrived back in the UK so managed to quit for purely financial reasons (a relative had just died from lung cancer). At that point I had been 20 a day for 5 or 6 years
2nd time - started again in 2001 after heavy socializing with smokers. about 10 months of smoking - went to stay with some majorly anti smoking relatives unaware of my relapse so the cold turkey process started again and I stuck to it (though was not easy)
This time.... started again back in February (socializing with a friend who is a smoker - lots of red wine, then back into buying cigarettes myself then a 10 a day habit pretty much). I went cold turkey a couple of weeks ago on holiday - 4 days but once I get home I slip into a "well just one more you can give up tomorrow, not helped by having some cigarettes left in a packet.
2 days ago - bought some lozanges, and although have only had 7, it has stopped me from buying a packet.
Typing all this has at least helped with the will power!
Am going to put £3 in a jar every day and treat myself in the sales (I have 29 lozanges left so will do cold turkey after they have gone!)0 -
THREE mouthfuls of freezing cold water will stave of the craving. The colder the better.
Try it - IT WORKS!"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
Will do next time I get a strong craving
I am trying to break the brain link between being at the computer at home working and having a cigarette - I am fine if my OH is around (avid non smoker)0 -
Hello and a very warm welcome, lily the pink! On the whole, especially the first time, it sounds as though you're fairly strong willed, but mostly it seems that socialising and smoking indoors are your biggest downfalls.
Why not have a strict ruling that you NEVER smoke indoors at all, not even if it's raining!!!
With the socialising, it must be far easier these days due to the laws? We've had so many successes due to the laws being as they are now, I mean who would really want to go outside and get soaked or cold.
Try hard to make your health your main priority for quitting; sadly if you only stop due to finances there's always a far greater risk that you'll go back to it, specially at times when you're better off and......can afford to smoke again!!! Save the money by all means as it's a good incentive, but save the money for a really good reason. The best, to my mind, has to be for holidays as it's a great motivator to keep you saving for the next one..and the next etc!
Always keep your departed relative in mind, who would still be here - if only!
All very best wishes Lily and it is possible to quit for good, take it from one who truly does know.
Sue x
All best wishes for Rattie to get better soon, Erme, for you to find that all important paperwork too.
Sue xx
Hi rizla and brilliant news on the 50 days free!!!!! :T
A great idea to Lily too! Likewise it works the same way and for longer with Ice Pops/Poles, perfect for the job, though I'd never argue against yours!
Keep hard at it everyone, you know you WANT to quit for good - and - you KNOW you CAN!!! Determination and willpower!

Made even better by wearing Chanel No. 5 (gotten half price off ebay)... to my clinic appt (you ought to have seen my consultant's face when I said I got it half price....he almost fell of his chair :rotfl: other perfumes really don't compare...

Maybe this is a dumb thought but what about getting those tins of really strong mints (works better if you used to smoke menthol) and having those or just trying an inhalator (one -2 cartridges a day or so or whatever you need......You can puff on it without having to change the cartridge)..
That's what I would suggest...I think I paid about £8 for 42 cartridges off ebay the other week. Loads of folk sell them cos they've been on quit smoking courses and they have stuff left over... But even so expect to pay no more than £10 or get them on prescription (free in certain circumstances and if you live in Scotland)
Just a thought
