A year is a HUGE achievement, and one to be so very chuffed with yourself about!! I hope you've told those who thought it wasn't doable for you; though it's YOU who's the one who's important NOT them! Never, ever give into any temptation Catherine as you'll hate yourself. ;)

Just think of how much better your health is now!!! :D Great news Catherine, don't forget to keep us updated, especially this time next year!!

    All best wishes!

That's fantastic news, Erme, you're doing so very, very well and should be feeling SO very proud of yourself!! :j

A HUGE pat on the back Erme!!

You're doing just GREAT, ellionic!!!! :T I'm so pleased you were ok with the drink (my Mum loved Tia Maria!), but always bear in mind that whenever you get that way ~ a fag will never change things..only serve to push you to having another..and another...and...etc!!!! You praise yourself up and look ahead to that perfect treat, you truly do deserve it!!!! :D

Well done with rereading the clear thinking/smoky thinking post, Ruby, it really does make sense, so does the scented candle, relaxing bath and Alan Carr! You're doing all it takes to get success into your life! Go Ruby!!! ;)

    Sue x

Brilliant JD!! Isn't in terrific when you're barely affected by thoughts anymore. :D Stay strong and keep Nic forever gone!

Stay strong folks...there truly is life without fags!!!! :grinheart

  • I just wanted to join in and share my two cents worth!

I gave up smoking this year with Champix (I had tried patches and stuff and although it kind of worked temporarily for a while it never really "stuck").

I had smoked 20/30 a day for ten years and even when I had no food in the cupboard I would always find money for cigarettes.

Now thanks to Champix and to the wonderful NHS app that tells me how much money I've been smoke free for 120 days, 23 hours and 44 minutes and saved a total of £741.66.

I feel so much better for it, I don't wake up in the night coughing, my house smells lovely, I smell lovely, I can have the dental treatment I wouldn't have been able to before and I know that my mum (who died of a smoking related disease) would be really proud of me.

I've not been perfect, particularly when I've had a drink or two but at the same time I've not bought any, nor have I needed one the day after but I just wanted to say to those who've given up congratulations and to those who want to give up it's fantastic and you will never regret it. It certainly is tough and I still get those moments where I'm like "oooh, i fancy a ciggy!" but the benefits of not as you move along far outweigh the benefits of doing it!

Hi StarCrossed welcome aboard! Thanks for joining us and congratulations on about 4 months (almost) free from smoking! :D It's a marvellous amount of time after being a 20 - 30 a day smoker and I really do hope you continue and quit for good!

Focus on the quoted part above whenever you're tempted as, if you're not careful that one or two or so whenever could knock you off balance and I know you'd hate that to happen after all this time! Do be very wary of drink while you're still vulnerable, alcohol is potent stuff and stops us from thinking properly! Otherwise it sounds as though Champix has worked marvellously for you which is great!

Keep coming to see us and letting us know how you're going, and if you're ever struggling have a read through the posts here, there are many inspiring ones to help. On the previous page there's also a helpful smoky thinking v clear thinking post to help at those 'temped times'. Keep to that and you'll soon be a true non-smoker! :j BTW, the "oooh, i fancy a ciggy!" moments get less and less and weaker and weaker the longer you've quit for, so onward you go!;)

All best wishes for a very successful quit, just keep determined and pop lists of "why I do not want to smoke" wherever you can see them so they keep you reminded NOT to!

49 days smoke free using Champix! And feeling great. One of the things I did was take a photo of my leg and I have it as a screensaver on my Iphone, so every time I use my phone it reminds me of why I stopped smoking. I was having a circulation problem and my Doctor warned me stop smoking or risk losing your LEG! As it happens since I stopped smoking I can now walk pain free, and the freedom is fantastic.
Low Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs

Since first using Martins I have saved thousands
  • Hello everyone i havnt been on in ages but had to come and say that in just under 4hrs time i will have been smoke free for 1 whole year :j:j:j

Just wanted to say a big thanks to sue, dundeedoll and everyone else on this thread for helping me. And to anyone who is starting out, keep going it really does get easier!

I remember this time last year how much I hated myself for smoking

I felt guilty everytime i smoked that i was going to leave my children without their mum and even worse it would be my own fault!

I hated having no money to treat the kids cos i spent it all on cigs.

I can remember reading posts from people saying that they had quit for a year and I thought id never be able to do it but here i am!

Just take it one day at a time, it really does get easier.

And even better news is I am expecting again! Hopefully we will have our new wee bundle of joy in april time!

Thanks again to everyone on the thread i couldnt have done it without you all!

  • Thank you jammy! I remember you from before! I see from your sig that you maybe had a little setback? correct me if im wrong its just im sure i can remember you quitting around the same time as me? If so I just want to say something that i rem reading on here 'never give up giving up' or something like that lol! I think that this is maybe the 12th time I have gave up :o I have quit before but this time feels different. I think I have just got so sick of stopping and starting. When I told everyone I had quit this time, they rolled their eyes and i knew they were thinking 'oh how long will she stop for this time' but I know they are starting to realise I meant business this time lol!
    Well done to you :T:T:T

Hi guys...I'm still on my combo of e-cig and like spray :) and reducing the spray (out of necessity) and am reducing the coffee too. Onto tea which is far cheaper @ 27p for 80 tea bags from Mr. S (hope they're good :). Will be a hugesaving if they are....)

Anyhow ppl that pray for me could you please pray I'll have to courage to go ahead with baptism by immersion. I want to do it as a witness and also for membership of the church that I've been going to for the last year or so.....(it's a baptist church) only I have a calvinist background and they (obviously) are very anti it...

So just popping on here asking my praying folk to pray for me :)

  • Hit the 4 day mark today. Yesterday was a bit difficult at time and today coming out of work at lunchtime I caught a whiff of a cigarette - plus it has been a habit to have a cigarette before driving home.

Saw a woman driving and smoking today - she was being undertaken by all the traffic as she was more focused on the cigarette than on the road! This is me no longer.

So time to put another £3 away.

  • Hi peeps

Firstly well done to everyone and thanks for sharing their stories - it's very motivating for a newbie like me.

The title says it all - my first day for over 12 years without a smoke..can't quite believe it to be honest - haven't climbed the walls or really thought about it much - been a bit surreal.
Did have a bit of a laugh earlier at the shop with OH - he wanted some tobacco (he's not in the right frame of mind to quit as yet - but i'm working on him!) and he said without thinking "don't you need any cigarettes?" and i just replied "nope i'm a non smoker"...and that felt good just to say it...
I know it's only day 1...but i'm so determined to do it this time. I want to be here next Christmas posting my year of quitting with pride as others have..
    Hugs to all
    Chrissie.xx
