well i guess i'm venturing into day 3 but better not get ahead of myself ;)

workin night shift does upset the equalibrium somewhat

been ace not going out into the dark at night for crafty puff , never used to smoke a whole one so used to go through quite a few

had a HUGE garage bill yesterday over £1000  more determined than ever not to stray back into the arms of old nic ...he was beconing but i was for sure not taking up his "hospitatlity"

have an ice machine here at work so its been fine sipping the cold stuff

liked your comment sue-uu on foxes being nocturnal ( though the least said about the creaturtes the better , they devoured all my hens this year :(...so no eggies until i have had a rethink on their enclosure

have a magic weekend keep up the good work and feel your lungs expand as they take in the fine free frsh stuff

    Well so far so good.

Really felt the urge for a cigarette yesterday while walking from the car to Morrisons.
I put it down to the fact that there were loads of people smoking at the entrance to Morrisons.

Will be dieting from tomorrow as I read that nicotine increases the metabolism. So obviously mine has now slowed down even more.
I have an under active thyroid condition as well for which I take Thyroxine which means slow metabolism too.

Going to make an appointment at the Doc's for a blood test to check my thyroid levels too.

Well done to everyone who has completed another day smoke-free :)

3weeks 6 days £331.61 not spent on fags!!! Patches and oral combination
    BH day 6 Cold Turkey

Woke up this morning and didn't look for my cigs :j:j:j This is the first day I've noticed this. BH had a couple of smokes yesterday with a beer, but tbh he's like my daughter and will be able to do that. Whereas I'm a total addict and a couple of puffs would put me back to square one again.

Erme hon, as I said, I wasn't having a go, whatever works for you. Can you get your nicorette nasal spray on prescription? Remember prescriptions are free in Scotland too. Although I would give this up for the sake of the kids getting their braces when needed.

JD-I'm pretty sure u were here the last time I gave up too. Sorry to see u fell off the wagon like myself, but the important thing is, we didn't give up.

o2bfree - Felt the same seeing them all standing around outside B&M yesterday. But walked thru the haze with my head held high and my breath held so I didn't inhale it.

Aniseed balls finally arrived on Friday :j:j So now if I'm really desperate, I stick one of those in my mouth.

Going to docs on Wednesday to see if there's anything i can take to relieve the nerve symptoms from my shoulder. Physio recommended some amytriptiline (sp) or similar. Started some exercises to stretch the spine. Bought something for my chair to improve my posture when sitting at the pc. Arm still feels dead all the time. Feels like it weighs a ton and the pins n needles make carpal tunnel syndrome feel like a tickle. But the physio has improved the movement a wee bit in my shoulder so onwards and upwards!!! Can't believe it's 4 weeks tomorrow :T:T:T

my "craving" moments come and go ( mostly routine association ) i think about it , distract myself and sure enough it pases and I KNOW these craves and thoughts of smoking will subside and get less and less so am more than prepared to ride with it as such a reward awaits ( the day you remember you havent thought about fags all day ...bring it on .....)

omg so glad i found this thread, this is my 7th day of stopping and i'm having lots of withdrawal symtoms that are totally driving me mad. First few days were fine but then started feeling unbelievably tired, I really think i could sleep all day and night at this point. i have such a sore throat and runny nose, and for the first few days i felt like i had a smokers hangover. My partner keeps asking whats wrong with me, but i dont feel like i'm in a bad mood and i dont think i'm being snappy. I starting to wonder if its worth it especially as my partner seems to be smoking double what he normally smokes since i quit, so i'm actually no even saving any money.

Hi sapanga and a very warm welcome! Please - don't stop quitting - it's so worth the struggle, though TBH, if your OH smokes indoors...then so are YOU!!! :( The following is what I wrote to "rizla" yesterday, it sounds like it applies to you too: If you feel tired since giving up smoking, please don't worry! Some people are affected by this whereas others feel completely the opposite and energised. It's just another side effect of your body adjusting to the lack of nicotine. Nicotine speeds up the metabolism to an unnaturally high level, which means that without the nicotine, your metabolism slows down to adjust. This causes your energy levels to drop, but it's only temporary and will soon return to normal.

For now, boost your energy levels by avoiding sugary and processed foods. I know I say it a lot - but drink plenty of water! Have snacks consisting of seeds, nuts and dried fruit, don't have too many at a time, but a few 3 or 4 times a day do help. Take a short, brisk walk when you're feeling tired and take a break from what you're doing, it honestly does help to divert the concentration to something totally different. Then relax and always make sure you eat a good healthy breakfast which will keep you going through the morning. Try a similar healthy lunch and so forth. Your body WILL right itself sapanga, just give I chance. Do get your thyroid level checked with your Dr, it's vital, just in case.

Ask for the love and support of your OH and you never know, you may even set a great example! I'll send you a PM in a mo, all the best and you are doing a wonderful thing, not losing anything either - only gaining in every way! :D

    Hugs, Sue xx

Thanks a lot for your thoughts, caracara, but we've definitely been with new company for the last 4 or 5 years, so DH's has me down as a non-smoker. BTW realised why they charge more for smokers - they obviously present more of a risk with leaving a lit cig unattended (sounds odd but you know what I mean) or leaving one smouldering at night ...doesn't bear thinking of!!! At least we know the reasoning for it, makes perfect sense too.

My "craving" moments come and go ( mostly routine association ) I think about it, distract myself and sure enough it passes and I KNOW these craves and thoughts of smoking will subside and get less and less so am more than prepared to ride with it as such a reward awaits ( the day you remember you havent thought about fags all day ...bring it on .....)

Hi JD, you're so welcome, though it's lovely to know, thanks. I LOVE such a positive post as yours from today, fantastic!!!! :D You're doing all the right things at the right time!

So sorry to hear about your poor chicken!!! I know we both like them, and thankfully ours are doing well, especially with laying 7 out of 8 still!!! 2 L Sussex are blighters with feather pecking at the mo, so we're moving them to a separate house and bit of garden, little Bs! You chose the best time to quit with the winter fast approaching, no near freezing to death on the doorstep for you! I see you've now even more incentive to quit than ever with THAT bill!!!!

All the best with brighter days JD. Sue x

A very good idea, o2bfree, mine flared when I quit, though at the time I didn't realise the problem. He/she may up your Thyroxine - IF it's necessary. The diet's a good idea, though make sure you worry more about the quitting first, I'm sure that's what your Dr would say, though it would certainly up your metabolic rate. Take note of the nuts and dried fruit in my post to rizla above, they'll help. Good luck with both, and well done! BTW, bet you're chuffed it's not you who's hanging round Morrisons!

Great news for the length of time you've been free for, Maz, extremely well done and brilliant news that fags aren't your 1st thought on waking up!!! :T:T Good to hear Aniseed Balls are a help, any reason why? All the best with your Dr being able to help you. BTW, I have to use a "speech to text" device now due to my hand/arm, any good for you? If so tap Nuance Dragon "speech to text" into Google, I wouldn't be without mine now!

thanks so much for the words of advice and suport sue-uu. I've been eating a lot of sugary foods so will try and swap them out for something a bit more healthier as might be contributing to tiredness. Think I'll start throw OH out the back to smoke so i cant smell it in the house or have to watch him smoke and maybe he'll cut down a bit if he has to go outside in the rain lol. I will be trying my best to stick with it as i dont want to let myself down.

Sue, I think it's just something to suck. Manage to crunch all other hard sweets apart from aniseed balls or gobstoppers. Thnx for advice, but tbh Sue, I'm going to try moving as much as possible while a can, but good idea for those days I can't :T

sapanga, did you take note of having your Thyroid levels checked? If not, I honestly would as it really pulls you down and exhausts us - IF it's a problem.

    Sue x

That's not a bad idea, Maz, I can see how they'd work better than boiled sweets. I used to love em as a kiddie.

BTW, I only meant using the speech to text as a help on here and e-mails, just to make life easier. It certainly doesn't tie you down - if anything it frees up your sitting time! Still, just an idea Maz.
