The Giving Up Smoking Thread - Part 3

I discovered today, how much tiredness plays a huge part in bringing on the desire for a puff.
Couldn't shake off the unease!
I was able to just chill today - That helped a bit.Wonderful....you take pics very similar to how I do...loving all the lines though how did you get the ones of the stilts next to the sea? Amazing!!! Was that some cracking acrobatics? Or something else? Pray do tell?
Quite easy - There were steps leading to the waters edge, BUT tide was in and I got showered a few times plus I was having to shoot thru railings to get the angle.
Anyway. Now I've shown you mine, how about showing me yours?
Seriously, do you have your pics on view anywhere? I would be very interested to see them.
Pref that you PM me,

Hi Dazi Fancy seeing you here!
I am so so proud of you - you are doing fab girl! :T
I particularly like the 'treat' you are spending your saved £s on(Give it a shake for me
)
This link explains the effects of nicotine withdrawal very well. I found by reading things like this I knew WHY I was feeling like I was and I knew it would pass - that's what helped me so much.
http://www.whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Symptoms.html
I will quote a ittle from it here, particularly for Dazi & o2befree
Although nicotine is not a close friend or loved one, over the first 72 hours it, along with 90% of its metabolites (chemicals it breaks down into) exit the body via our urine.
As it departs, not only is our mind breaking an extremely dependent psychological bond, recent studies continue to suggest that nicotine had physically taken select serotonin anxiety busting neuro-circuits hostage.
Once the administration of nicotine ends, physical sensitivity readjustment is likely occurring as the brain resumes command and control.
Some degree of sense of loss depression is common and heavy long-term smokers seem to experience it a bit more frequently. It can almost seem like experiencing the death of a friend or loved one or the end of a (chemical) marriage or other long-term inter-dependent bond. It is normal to mourn the loss and go through the normal phases of grieving.
This is an excellent article by Joel on the emotional loss associated with smoking cessation. As with the end of any long-term relationship, our period of cessation mourning and grieving can be as long or short as we desire. Although it can and often does generate physical symptoms, our underlying conscious thoughts are very much within our ability to control.
It can become the primary focus symptom once crave trigger re-conditioning diminishes in frequency to the point where you feel somewhat comfortable in managing or coping with craves.
This usually happens somewhere between weeks one and three, but may not be noticed until later if any other symptom is receiving higher priority due to continuing discomfort
Lippy How lovely to hear your update!Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

That IS interesting.
During my dependancy on cigs I ALSO became dependant on Seroxat for a 12 - 18Mth period, which was prescribed for acute depression.
Cigarettes were there as support for me during the 3 - 4 years that was required, to wean myself off the Seratonin.
It's no surprise that I am now suffering degrees of depression due in part, I feel, to my neuro-circuitry trying to trick me into giving in.
I was half expecting this to happen but that doesn't make it any easier."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
3 weeks 3 days patches and/or oral nic
BH Day 2 Cold Turkey (occasional ecig puffing)
Erme - Don't u think that's still a lot of money to be spending on nicotine? When you say nasal spray is that the nicorette one? Not having a go, whatever works for u. The reason I mentioned the ecigs I did was that it lets u test them to see if it's for you rather than coughing up a fortune for something u just don't like. I really don't like them enough to buy a full system like yours. But then I'm only having a quick puff on it in the morning and at night when there's no patch on.
.
Rizla - Chin up. Stopping smoking does have a few things that can upset the apple cart, but when the fight is over and you've beaten the addiction, you may find that things get much better.
O2bfree- Have u plenty of fruit around you? Found this is easier, especially having some frozen grapes around, just something to suck on.
Aniseed balls still haven't arrived from Amazon! Gonna need to chase that up. Another day where I didn't smoke and I'm feeling rather proud of myself. Won't make it to the smoking cessation group today as it coincides with my physio, so will try and make it to the evening session if I've got time.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Blah Blah Blah!
Just back from physio with good news and bad news.
Good news: Physio is really helping with the calcification in the shoulder, movement is improving.
Bad News: Loss of sensation in left hand is not coming from shoulder, as originally suspected but from the spine.
Seems when my old knees gave out on me getting out the bath I done more damage than originally anticipated. Looks like I've now got to go onto drugs for that too.
Had the wee man up for blood tests today too, they are now thinking he might have coeliac disease rather than just being lactose intolerant.
Why oh why are these things sent to try us when we're trying so blo0dy hard to kick the weed! Still haven't smoked, although it was bloody tempting. I know it wouldn't achieve anything having a smoke, but I really really want one. Have wanted one all day today. Maybe deep down I expected some bad news and that's why i looked to my "friend" for comfort. I dunno.
The BH isn't finishing work today til around 7, so don't know if i'll make it to smoking cessation or not. Will try my best tho cos feel I could use it today4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Of course we don't mind you sticking round o2bfree, far better to than not.
To be craving as you are sounds as though the Champix aren't doing too much good for you as it's usually completely the opposite for users. Have a word with your GP and see hat he/she thinks.
Any different today? Do try to snack on healthier things and try sipping water as soon as you start to crave. Going off out for a walk or beating merry he*l out of a pillow will help.Give way to any tearful times, you'l feel so much better after letting the tears go. Keep in mind that......you're never alone!!

and you deserve too 'n all, Maz! Very well done you!!! :T:T Just seen your latest post, Maz, so sorry to hear the bad news, things are progressing all the time so keep hoping for something to help it. For the wee fellah too, bless him.Things such as this sadly just happen I'm afraid to say, it's not just you though, DH & I have truly had our share over the years and still are. Aside from that, as a result of a nasty fall in March I now have the use of just one hand, the left and I'm right handed! A very painful frozen shoulder too which needs an op next month. Again, as with quitting - you're never alone!
Hugs, Sue xxx
rizla, you will get past this, relatively quickly too. Due to other reasons, I had suffered terrible bouts of depression, but since quitting I can honestly say I've NEVER once suffered any.Do more chilling out on thngs that really make you buzz, that's the answer, my friend.
Sue xx
Hi Erme, I have the same questions as Maz! It sounds extortionate! What nasal spray is it that you use? Good to see you.
Hugs, Sue xx
Come on everyone, this is something that really is doable for you ALL, keep strong, focused and - HEALTHY! :j
