I’m a bit new on the forums, so I hope I’m in the right thread:

I stopped smoking (again) 23 days ago. I’m getting support (and free nicotine replacement products) from my local NHS stop-smoking clinic. Everything is going really well, and I’m due to go back to the clinic for my final weekly check later today. After today I’ll be going to the clinic every 3 weeks and I’m starting the weaker patches.

Part of my plan is that I stash the cash that I used to spend on smokes to buy things that I want, so that I have something tangible to show for my efforts. I know that I should be clearing my credit cards, but at the moment, past experience has taught me that something new and shiny does my efforts more good in the long term than boring debt re-payment.

Cigarettes were costing me £140/month, and right now I’m saving that money and putting it towards a new laptop. However my question is, is it reasonable to put that money on my only remaining active credit-card, only to later spend that on my laptop? My debt repayment money is also going on this card, so my thoughts are that, even just for a few months, the interest on that card is reduced compared to what it might otherwise be. Or should I stash this cash in a separate bank account?

I am confident that I will only buy the computer when (and only when) I have saved enough from my not smoking. Furthermore I will not use this card for anything else - I don’t think I’ve even had it out of my wallet in the last year!

    3 weeks 1 day Patches/Oral combination £270.51 not spent!

I could have absolutely killed for a smoke today! Almost lunch time and guess who's forgotten to put fresh patch on! D'oh! They don't work if u don't stick em on silly!!! So relying on my ecig until I've had my bath (very soon!!!!)

Welcome Daveys who's one day ahead of me on the 23 days, well done :T
In my area they keep u on the strong patches for 6 weeks, then cut you down, it being a 12 week program. I asked the smoking cessation nurse if it was worth me cutting down to the weaker patch, as I'm taking it off at night and forgetting to put it on again several mornings, she said no, stick to the stronger patch for the full 6 weeks unless u have any adverse effects. So will follow her advice here and stick to the stronger ones

Well done you! A whole day! Can only get easier from now on in :T:T:T

DD - As above - Nice one hon!!! Every day is an achievement

Well my BH started his journey yesterday, must admit it has been easier him not smoking in the house. Have told him not to do it cos I have but for himself and because he wants to, he says he does, but don't think he's quite in "that" place. He found a tiny wee bit of baccy left in pouch and made a barlinnie special out of it:rotfl: and he's desperate to go to shops and buy a half ounce, I'm happy to say he's resisted the urge so far :T:T:T Tried to give him extra kisses n cuddles yesterday as he was so much tastier!!! and it might even encourage him to stop altogether. Tried to say to him, it would be better to have a spray of the oral spray than having a cig, but he wants to go cold turkey. I still reckon if you're so desperate to go buy some, then have a spray and see if it helps. I'll do the snog test when he gets home from work just to check up on him. I can't believe how much my sense of smell and taste has improved already!

I have missymoo and there are others who are. It's not recommended by smoking cessation groups as the makers of ecigs won't tell the health authorities what's in the liquid. So although in theory, it's better than smoking and you get that kick in back of the throat like an cig, it's not recommended. I would however say, if you're going to get one, get a decent system rather than the cheaper ones. They just don't last long enough.

I am now on patches (most of the time, read above) with either the nicorette spray and/or ecig as back up, not both in one day! I have found that if the ecig is in my hand i will puff on it. So usually have it in my hand without any liquid or a dead battery on it :rotfl: Think it's just easier because it mimics the hand to mouth action.

The biggest advice I can possibly give anyone, is smoking cessation groups tho, bunch of people all going thru the same stuff as you, and the support is wonderful!

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Photogenic I've been Money Tipped!
6 days 11 hours since I last smoked using Champix so I just ordered and payed for my new printer in a silly way it feels like a free printer.
If I was smoking I would have spent the money anyway making myself ill at the same time, and no printer.
I am feeling very positive and good about myself and indeed health-wise I have noticed an improvement so it's been a great week.
I look forward to my second week as a non-smoker and my next reward whatever that is. Good luck everyone

    Go you!!! :j

I've come back from the stop-smoking clinic. The strength of my patches has been reduced from 25mg to 15mg (which will start from next Monday). I have to go back next week, when I'll be awarded my certificate for stopping smoking...it may not sound like a big deal, but every little incentive is a good one in my book

Already I've £121.96 in my 'toy-fund'. When I have a bit more money I'll be ordering my new Laptop, but that will only take another 6 weeks.

I'm keeping track of my savings by using Q-Gadget on quitnet.net

    Evening all

Ive not been on MSE much over the last week, so thought i'd better pop in and let you know im still on track :D

    Today is Day 13!
Ive got another Newleaf appointment tomorrow, but have had to move to a different venue and different advisers, so i hope they are as nice as the lady ive been seeing for the last 2 weeks

Im really pleased with my progress, ive not gained any weight which im chuffed about, and my munchies have really settled and i dont really get an extra urge to eat instead of smoke.

Sleep has been a little unsettled, so ive started taking the patches off once im in bed.
my sense of smell is much better, which is not always for the best!

Well done to everyone who has joined since i last posted :T
I dont know of anyone who ever regretted quitting, but plenty who regret starting again!

OH is still on the bandwagon too :D
