Good to see you back so soon, Bonno, you're so welcome to the help. From what you've said above I'm wondering if you might be trying a game of pretence to help you - no matter what it is - we all find ways to make it easier and if anything at all makes it easier for you then that's exactly what you need to put to the test!!!

Thanks for letting us know you have not smoked indoors, well done you! Our neighbours have both always smoked inside and their 15 year old DD has always coughed like a 40 a day old lady!!! Seriously, it's disgusting!! I wish you all you'd wish yourself B, so go ahead and let us and the Cessation folk help you be the person you wish to be! :) You know where we are.

Hi davesdaughter and a very warm welcome aboard! If you're using Champix and in a good frame of mind then you have every success of fulfilling your wish to stop! Actually, everyone does no matter what they use or if they go cold turkey, I'm living proof of that at having stopped 12 & 1/2 years ago! It's all in having the will to do it and NEVER giving in to temptation.

Please don't fret too much about your son and the future because IF you can beat it then chances are he'll never remember you smoked anyway! :) Even more the case IF your DH can quit too! Who knows, if you can do it...he also may get bitten by the bug! It's often the case that guys can give up easier than us gals as they don't have the monthlies! ;)

We can wish you everything you'd wish for, but you alone can make the luck...go on, you CAN you know and we've had so very many successful quitters here, each like you, they had the desire to kick it out of their lives - and DID!!!! :D Please keep us updated and reading through the posts helps a lot.

    Sue xx

Please everyone, if you can stop smoking then please...just never, ever let yourself be tempted to have just one puff/one cig as you'll be back where you started...quick as a flash!!!!

Feeling great today, a bit snotty, but that's probably my nose being able to get air in it again :) Supposed to be going to smoking cessation group today, but don't know if I will have time. Got a lot on. Might be able to catch the last 5 minutes of it :) or might go this evening where I can catch the full session, need to wait and see how much time is available :)

  • Morning All,

Just checking in with my stats! 16 days in and I have not smoked 308 fags, saved myself £100.29 and I have not wasted 30 hours 48 mins standing at my back door smoking!!!!

I am not even thinking about smoking that much any more and when I do it's never 'I wish I could have a smoke' it more 'I would normally have a fag now, glad I don't want one'. I have found that when I am out and about and see others smoking I nolonger wish I was one of them, instead I pity them! I just think about the amout of money they are spending on ruining there health and smellying so so bad.

That got me thinking, I used to feel guilty about spending £40 on a bottle of perfume but would waste more than that amout over a week on Eau de Ciggarettes!!!! Think I might treat myself to a new perfume with the money I have saved.

Good luck to all the newbies, I would recommend Alan Carrs book. I used it and I listen to the CD of an evening to help me sleep. Not sure about anyone else but I would definitley say I have noticed a shift in mind set this time. I really really wanted to give up, for the sake of my health, kids, and bank balance. I just hated the fact that I was tied to smoking. I told myself that I would do everything this time to free myself from it. Every other time I have tried to quit I have always looked for reasons to have a smoke, this time I have looked for ways of dealing with situations that would normally lead to a fag. Sorry if I am rambling, I can't seem to find the right way to describe it but it is almost like a switch has been flicked this time and I honestly believe I will never smoke again. I just feel so much better, healthwise, and finacially. It has also given my confidence a major boost as I am so proud of how far I have come already!

I understand where you are coming from davesdaughter, I too have 2 young boys (4 & 7) and have carried alot of guilt about smoking. I hated the fact that I would put off playing with them in favour for a fag! Plus the fact that I was setting a bad example for them. I must admit I have used them to help me stop. I told them that I was trying my hardest to stop smoking and that I may need their help. When I got a craving I would ask one of my boys to come for a huggle and kiss. I wouldn't want to kiss my kids with stinky fag breath and it ment that I got to spend some good quality time with them. Our huggle would usually lead to a conversation about their day or a tickle fest and the craving would have passed by the time it had come to an end.

I would also recommed popping on here, I have used this board quiet alot and have found it really helps. Everyone is so friendly and Sue's advice is second to none.

Sorry for the long ramble, hope it helps someone. Take care and good luck all xxx

    Monday 19 Th. September 2011

I have just returned from a visit to my doctor he advised me to stop smoking because I am having circulation problems in my legs, which can be painful after walking over any kind of distance.

I have a heart problem I had to have a pacemaker fitted 5 years ago and about six months ago I had to have my heart stopped and restarted using the paddles to try to get it into sync I am glad to say it worked on the 3rd attempt.

Recently I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes although apparently not life threatening with the correct treatment, there are risks! If I continue to smoke he warned me! I could end up losing some toes, maybe a foot or even the entire leg, although I am nowhere near that stage yet if I continue to smoke it could happen.

So today I have started a course of Champix and its my intention to stop smoking on the 28Th.of September no cigarette is worth losing a limb for. I stopped smoking for 30 months and I stupidly started smoking again about a year ago I used Champix the last time and I stopped for two and a half years so I feel fairly confidant I will be able to stop again and if is as easy as last time that would be wonderful.

I am a divorced male living alone aged 63 soon to be 64 I am retired and I just love my computer I have two married children and 3 grandchildren so I have plenty to live for and I am in no rush to leave this planet and whenever I do I would like to leave complete! So the smoking must stop.

Morning Maz, very well done indeed on keeping hard at it!!! :T Do try hard to go to the Smoking Cessation group..it's especially vital to you at this stage as you've done marvellously and obviously believe in them.

Enjoy your day out, but be careful what you're buying!

Hi Kahunababy and congratulations on such an amazing post, so inspiring too which is why I've highlighted the really best bits, though I don't know about the final part :o but if it helps that's all that matters.

I love the way you're letting davesdaughter see how you deal with stopping and bringing your kiddies in to help in such a fantastic way, a brlliant idea, kahunababy!!!!!! :T:T

To everyone here and any lurkers, please try the Quitters Pledge below:

Tell yourself every morning (more often each day if necessary) "I'm not going to smoke at all today, but if I wish to, I may smoke tomorrow." Repeat that pledge every morning, it tricks your mind and makes things more bearable to do it in bitesizes.

The very best to everyone of what you'd all wish for yourselves.

Hi viv and a very warm welcome to the thread and to a much healthier lifestyle. I knew I recognised your name, but thought it was as you're a member of my SPC brigade! ;) However, have you been here quitting with us in the past too? If so, well done on having stopped for all that time - at least that will have done you some good! :) You've put everything so explicitly which is great, well done you!

Apologies for not replying earlier when I posted to davesdaughter and Maz, but we obviously posted at roughly the same time. I had a message through to say you'd been here so I came back and looked below my name..obviously no one there. Anyway, I've just seen you so we'll go on from here.

I think you're very wise in knowing smoking has to go for good this time, so after youve stopped...IF EVER....you get a wobbly moment further down the trach then PLEASE either come back to us and explain your weakness or go to your Dr!

Looking at your last paragraph I'm wondering just how much exercise you get. If not a lot, then my best advice would be to get as much exercise a day as is possible on a regular basis - please!

You have the 3 ailments that rely on getting your circulation as good as possible, and I think your Dr would agree. So with all the following

    1/ heart problem

    2/ poor circulation

    3/ and diabetes

the best thing you can do is chuck the fags and take some daily walks...nothing too mad to start with. Perhaps a gentle walk 2 - 3 times a day, even if it's only for 10 minutes each time (so long as it's a bit better and longer than what you've been doing). Then build the walks up to a brisker pace but for the same amount of time. Then extend the time to say 15 mins and so on. You'll soon be reaping the benefits.

Stopping smoking, eating healthily and doingl the walking will keep your heart much healthier...gradually get a little weight off - IF you have a little too much - and also make your diabetes more manageable as that and circulation problems could be a joint problems further down the track....but NOT if you're a wise fellah! ;)

I'm sooo pleased you've seen your Dr and that you've come to us, please keep up appointments with your Dr and please keep chatting to us and explaining how you feel. I'm thrilled you're going to do all you can to stay healthy and help your youngsters look after theirs! :D You've kicked out the fags before so you can do it again. Put that together with enjoy your PC, but get some excerise in between and you'll be in far better shape and lead a GREAT life!!! ;)

All best wishes for the 28Th of September viv, you're so right that no cigarette is worth losing a limb for, your life either! Wishing you everything you wish for yourself and a far better life asap.

Please get in touch by PM any time you wish/need.

    Love and hugs, Sue xxx

  • DAY 210 by will power alone!

I am just calling in to wish all the newbies well in thier quests!

I am away on my hols next week, by the time I get back I will have passed SEVEN MONTHS. I am getting through this little tricky patch, my stumbling block before has been , "I got this far, I'll just have the odd one, I know I can do it." The four or five previous attempts have all failed around the 6 months mark so will be pleased to pass seven and start heading towards eight.

The double bonus is the missus has stayed off them too, she must be getting on for three to four months now too! Well proud of us both! And yes, we are now loaded, I'll take that side effect any day of the week, lol!

PM me the address. I so want to go to this vaping shop :)

And where about's are you? I'm in the north of scotland though doing a wee tour of southern scottie and Inversneckie in November

Well alas I didn't make Gaelic class cos I was too tired :( and I lost a friend (she says I can't phone and I just have to email when I know she misinterprets stuff via email so that's not exactly safe either) but anyhow....

I have discovered (like yesterday) I LOVE chanel no.5...seriously girlies - 1 wk quitters get yourself a wee vial of the stuff from ebay...will make you feel utterly fab and remind yourself why ya not smoking. Of course me (very much all or nothing) got 50ml of the stuff half price from ebay :D - whoops. And I still need £30 for my train ticket to Ma's next week  Skinny budget next week (baring in mind I'm currently not menu planning this could be tough).....Though I'm still budgeting for cigs so I should be okay

Anyhow Sue you are amazing and this thread wouldn't be this thread without you..

I've had a lousey week...you thought my last few posts were bad enough. I cried so much when my best friend said just email only contact yet still didn't smoke :T....I used to phone her 2-3 times a day - she was like the sister I never had. But I know I just have to love her and be kind to her and maybe she'll come back to me...

And then when hormonal (roll on the menopause:D) I got a note from my psych saying he'd put back the clinic appt by 2 weeks when I so desperately want to get off mirtazapine (put on 4 stone in just under a year on it) and stick to my calorie range on my internet diet (yes there are free ones like WW out there. Really whoever was on SW can save their pennies...just pm me)... Can't do that with mirtazapine screwing my blood sugar..

Welcome the new chappie. My Nurse has diabetes and lost a leg about a year ago. She now has a false leg and like is on sticks...she has done so well :)...don't think she smoked either. She is doing so well - she is an inspiration

    Anyhow...that's the me for now

I thought I'd drop in for a bit of moral support. After numerous attempts to stop smoking I have now just started taking Champix. I am on day 7 of taking them amd my quit day is Sunday. I really want to stop for good. I dislike myself so much for smoking, for the damage I am doing to myself and the money I am wasting. My DH smokes so there are always cigs around the house, although we never smoke indoors because we have a 4 year old son. I hate it when my son asks me why I am smoking and says that when he's a big man he's going to have a smoke!! That makes me feel so bad. I smoke around 10-15 a day, 20 on a bad day and I think of all things I could do with the money I am spending.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to read this post and please wish me luck!!

Hi I am on the same journey as you its day 5 for me on taking the Champix. I will be stopping on the 28th, I feel confident with the aid of the Champix. I am doing a list of the things I plan to do once I become a non-smoker, I am eager to stop now but I will follow the instructions it will only be a few more days! so hold my hand and let us go on this wonderful journey together.Viv

Erme - That's serious vaping!! lol. As I'm on patches, I'm only using mine for the occasional hit and something to do with my hands. Or when the patches fall off as they normally do and are unstickable again (ie: when they fall down the loo when going for a widdle!) Never thought of using a flavoured liquid other than the b&h flavour :rotfl: The shop in Argyl street isn't there any more. Was there last xmas :(

Those starting on champix, i had more success with that than anything else, just bad timing and a lot of stress going on in my life at the time. Set your date and stick with it. You may find yourself going off strong flavours like coffee, I know i did, good luck with it :)
