Hi all, am so annoyed I did a major catch up, multi-quoted and answered lots of posts and then lost it all, so here goes with the quick recap version.Hello - popping on to say howdy and keep up the good work! I gave up smoking in January (8th) and gave birth on 14th Feb and have not smoked since! Was a huge huge help to have this thread! Hope everyone is well and being successful!
Ho Sally, lovely to hear from you, I often wondered if you stayed off the smokes as we stopped at a similar time.kahunababy wrote: »I really do think like I am turning a corner this time, I am not constantly thinking about smoking like past attempts. I used to look for excuses to smoke but now I am looking for things to help me if/when I want to smoke.
It's a big shift in mindset, eh? I felt exactly the same like I needed to afford myself every possible opportunity to stay off the smokes. Well done, you're doing so well.
Earlier in the week I had a strange encounter with some do-gooder, who I hardly know and hadn't seen in ages. Almost the first words out of their mouth were to ask me, in a public situation, if I was STILL smoking. They may as well have been asking if I was still in some abusive relationship or if I had some horrid infectious disease. Besides annoying the heck out of me, what business was it of theirs? It's not like my smoking was ever near them, it could never have affected them in any possible way and nor had I ever in the past shared any thoughts about my or anyone else's smoking with them. It seemed entirely like they were just letting it be known, that I had been outed; my guilty secret was out, they knew I was one of them dreadful smokers. :rotfl:
They were quickly stopped in their tracks when I stated that I don't do that anymore and that I hadn't smoked for mmnnnn, *looking to the ceiling and thinking for a second* almost all of this year, ACTUALLY! Priceless! :rotfl:Mortgage
Start January 2017: $268,012

Wondered why i was reaching more for my ecig today, albeit empty, wasn't sure if it was the stress of seeing the mess in my DS room, but then realised I hadn't put my patch on after my bath :rotfl: Patched up and ready to go :rotfl:4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Eek just search back, that's a big Ecig
The ones I have are just about the size of a superking cig. Must admit, find myself smoking them empty more than I do when I have nicotine liquid in them. More for something to do with my hands than actually getting the kick out of them.
What a wopper eh!!!Since Erme came on at the beginning of the year I've learnt that there are E-cigs and Eeeee-cigs  Just a thought Maz, but if the pong of yours is that bad (and I'd imagine it is) then why not use it empty for the hand to mouth dummy-like action which could well get you through it all much faster.
If cleaning is helping you so much then keep at it, seriously. We all need something to focus hard on, something that is really therapeutic and it seems, that for now, this is yours. If it helps, go for it Maz!Your DS will never have had such a squeaky clean room!
Keep strong Maz and not to worry about the 2 st, one thing at a time and, to my mind, to stop smoking is the greater of the two. Just go steady with your snacking.

Hi there Kiwi, good to see you back with us. Oh dear...is that person STLL your friend?!!!ooh, I'll bet you could have floored her! Why is it some people just don't know what tact is?
Good for you with your retort.
I keep on hoping Tricia and newdeterminedms will be coming back to update us, they haven't been on since their 6 month check-in. Still, so long as they're ok that's all that matters.
I saw this (below) somewhere (on MSE I think) and thought it might be handy. Take care folk and keep at it, you will be soooo pleased you did when you reach the finishing line.

Hi Folks, need a bit of help please!! Trying to get off the ciggies and not having much success! Was off them for 4 days (cold turkey) last week. Have been sooo stressed out, so you've guessed it, back on them at the weekend. Feel sooo guilty and a failure. I hate smoking and really want to stop but I have a stressful job, alot of smokers around me + my OH smokes. Go to bed disgusted with myself every night after a "smoke up"! Also promised DD that I would give up. I am going to try tomorrow again! I am usually a determined person so why oh why can't I do this. Grrrrrr........0

3 words Bonno. Smoking Cessation Groups. They really are worth their weight in gold. Don't beat ureself up too much for the odd slip up, we all have them. As said before, this is what feels like my 30th attempt, it's more important to keep on trying4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Well advised, Maz!!!
A very warm welcome aboard, Bonno! Firstly - please don't promise your DD anything as if you're not able to follow through it's more tha likely making you feel more guilty than ever. Tell her you will always do your utmost to quit but ask for her patience...youngsters hear so much at school and that may be nagging at her, which...is in one sense good, but not so good for you right now.
Would you believe me if I were to say that your smoking is making you a LOT more stressed than your work is?!!! It's very true and the first fag of the day starts stressing..until you have the next and so forth.
Please do as Maz and many others are and...go to a Cessation Clinic for regular guidance. We're always here to help as much as you'd like us to..but... there's nothing quite like actually making physical visits to those who can be of such help. Give them a try - PLEASE!!!
Also, get a copy book or CD of Alan Carr's on quitting, we've had such great feedback and GREAT success, please do try that.
If your OH smokes indoors then please ask him....for your DD's healths sake and yours to smoke outside?????? It's vital as you most certainly want yor DD free of passive smoking!
Also, try the Quitters Pledge below:
Tell yourself every morning (more often each day if necessary) "I'm not going to smoke at all today, but if I wish to, I may smoke tomorrow." Repeat that pledge every morning, it tricks your mind and makes things more bearable to do it in bitesizes.
All the very best and please keep in touch with us.

Hi caracara and excellent news at how well you've done!!!! :T:T:T If you smoked rollies before then that's why you're not noticing the dfference so much, other than that...boy you must be a spender!!!!! :rotfl:Mostly though you must be soooooo proud of yourself at conquering it this far.Stay as strong as you've been so far and you'll make it - a day at a time!

Thanks mazza111 + Sue-UU for your posts and thanks so much Sue-UU for your PM! I feel so much more confident after reading them that I know I can kick this awful habit! I really am grateful for your support.
I have terrible guilt about smoking (both hubby + I smoke outside, never in the house) but still feel rubbish about the kids and smoking.
Tomorrow I am going find out about the smoking cessation classes in my area. I have an inhaler but want to go cold turkey- done it last week for almost 5 days, in my head it was a trial run  not going to say much more except watch this space!
I now know there are no good reasons to smoke, so in my head I am just about ready to quit. Will post soon! B0 -
I thought I'd drop in for a bit of moral support. After numerous attempts to stop smoking I have now just started taking Champix. I am on day 7 of taking them amd my quit day is Sunday. I really want to stop for good. I dislike myself so much for smoking, for the damage I am doing to myself and the money I am wasting. My DH smokes so there are always cigs around the house, although we never smoke indoors because we have a 4 year old son. I hate it when my son asks me why I am smoking and says that when he's a big man he's going to have a smoke!! That makes me feel so bad. I smoke around 10-15 a day, 20 on a bad day and I think of all things I could do with the money I am spending.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to read this post and please wish me luck!!0 -
