  • Well that is me offically smoke free for over a week:T

Big hugs to Mazza111, must be a difficult time but just think how proud your Dad would be.

Try not to be too hard on yourself alibob 1986, to only smoke 6 in 5 weeks is still a great achievment. I too had a slip when I first tried, (unexpected night on the drink) so I just wrote it off and started again. I know it's frustrating thinking how far you would have been if you hadn't had that stumble but you can't change it so just draw a line under it and concentrate on how well your doing now if that makes sence?

I actually thought about smoking today, I imagined how I would feel if I had a crafty one, and I came to the conclusion I would probably feel sick from the taste, have a raging headach for the rest of the day, have an unquenchable thirst and be really dissapointed in myself, so decideded that there was noway I would want to feel like that. I really do think like I am turning a corner this time, I am not constantly thinking about smoking like past attempts. I used to look for excuses to smoke but now I am looking for things to help me if/when I want to smoke.

Anyway thats me checking in for today. Hope you are all well.

HaHa thnx, allergic to micropore tho, sticking it on my thunder thighs so my jeans help hold it on :rotfl: Plasters make me itchy too but more tolerable.

How are u getting on with the ecig? I had one and did manage to stop with it for a couple of weeks until the battery died on me, didn't think to order 2 so I had a spare battery and eventually ended back on the fags. I did however feel like if it was in my hand i was constantly sucking on it, so had to make the conscious decision to put it down. And tried to only use it when needed. I also found myself wheezing on the ecig, but think i was trying to suck it too hard to get a better kick from the nicotine :rotfl: Even using it empty atm seems to be giving me something to do with my hands. So it's good for something :rotfl:

I'm actually fine all day until my OH comes home from work and starts smoking. He asks if I mind him smoking, I say no, and rush to the kitchen to do the dishes or make a cuppa, just so the temptation isn't there. Although he promises me he's going to give up when he's finished the 2-3 pouches of duty free that are still in the house :T

Have found that cleaning is taking my mind of things for the time being as u never seem to smoke when ur hands are wet :D

Yeah e-cigs come in all shapes and sizes....you should have gotten a new battery :)...you'd have been cig free sooner :T

Am not sleeping so like terrible anxiety today......anxiety normally gets me reaching for the cigs :(...but I have the cravings under control with the e-cig and I'm patiently waiting my new piece of kit.....

However budget not good either...If I want to PAD (payment a day) at end of week I only have about £6 to my name for doughnuts and everything....Pray I have enough food in. Don't know how these wee trips to Sainsburys added up but they have done....

    Eek.....

So yeah not good budget and not good anxiety (catastrophising - though am not thinking it just feeling it)...so easy day today and maybe get out later for a wee walk.

I want to go to work but I know I'm in zombie mode and simply not upto it..

  • today's tough!!! ahhhh so tough. i can almost taste cigs from the cravings. Mind you, i don't want one as such just craving one. i realise that doesn't make much sense lol.
i try not to be hard on myself, at the end of the day it's not the end of the world :)
good luck everyone, all doing really well!

Hi everyone, sorry not to have been with you for the last couple of days. I get rough times now and then, all part of me.

FANTASTIC NEWS that you're over a WEEK free, kahunababy!!!!! Congratulations on achieving your first week AND a day!!! :T:T I know when we've not stopped for long we tend to think others who've given up smoking a lot longer might think it's only a little time. However, it's the fact that we ourselves used to smoke that helps us know and understand that even going without for our FIRST DAY without one is absolutely HUGE after having smoked for a good while! Never belittle any amount of time you succeed with, be PROUD and praise yourself!!!! :j:T:j

Please give your DH a massive great hug from me for staying so very strong for you the other night!!! :T:T:T He deserved a medal for how he tackled the situation and I'd be tremendously proud of him if I were you. He so obviously thinks the world of you, take his advice, he's a great guy!!! Well done on giving out some excellent advice here already too! :D

    Sue xx

Oh dear Ali, it's such a rotten shame that after all that time you gave in on your night out. Not to worry, Ali.....onward you go and please - this time don't look back! Have you started knitting again? It helped you so much last time, so why not give it another go! BTW, just seen your latest post; what you've said makes perfect sense.......FOCUS Ali!!! Knitting??

    Sue xx

Glad to hear you're feeling a lot better now, Erme. I was pleased to read you admit that you'd have been far worse if you'd still smoked though! Get completely well soon, Erme.

    Sue xx

Welcome back Maz for another try! Many commiserations on the anniversary of you dear Dad's death Maz. It must have been very hard on you, but as kahunababy's rightly said he'd be so very proud of you! :) In think I can understand your reasoning about your OH smoking, though when he asked if you minded I'm sure the wisest thing would have been for you to say "well actually..if you could smoke outside I'd be sooo very grateful". I sincerely hope this time will be much more successful for you, you'll definitely have a lot of help and support here, all you need is the willpower and strength! Cleaning is great to keep you focused. All the best Maz!

    Sue xx

Congratulations Voyager, you're being so successful, very well done!! :T:T:T:T Your DH really does sound as though he's getting ready to give stopping another go. Like you, I truly hope he stays committed this time and gives you and himself peace of mind. The coughing sounds terrible, but with him having COPD it's going to, but if he can stop he'll notice such a difference! As you say...keeping quiet is by far the best way! :)

    Sue xx

VEY well done, caracara!!!! You're doing spendidly...keep staying strong is the way to get through the journey!! :j

    Sue xx

Thanks a lot for your input, Bufger, though I'd encourage folk to try to hold their health as the most important reason to stop for. The slight problem of only looking at it from a financial point of view is that......when the finances get sorted out does that perhaps tempt them back into old ways as "I can afford it". I'd sincerely hope not, but........! Congratulations to you!

    Sue xx

Hi skintbint, you're still in the early days so the night sweats aren't too surprising, but like other affects, they won't bother you for too long. Use the inhalator for as long as you need it. In the evenings when you find things hard, why not go on out for a brisk walk; it really does take your mind off things. Do anything you believe will help you or try a new hobby to focus the hands/fingers on.

    Sue xx

Hi again Pam and thanks so much for coming back(you couldn't have picked a better time!) and giving some really sound advice. It's so very true it's just a myth that smoking a cig relieves stress when all it really does is to cause it! You had some really good things to add to folk Pam, I much appreciate it. :)

I do hope things are now (or soon will be) much better with yourself and all the family. Thanks for the reminder about Larmy too, by golly it FLIES!!!! Don't forget Pam, you're always welcome here. :D

    Sue xx

Please dear folk, keep up the work you started...keep plodding along on your journey. So many others on this thread have made that journey and are sooooo very thrilled they did. You can add your name to that great list too! Hugs to you all, and no matter how far along you are......you are never alone!!!!

Day 4: Well made it thru day 3 without too many tears and no smokes :j Downside, I could smell the cat on her litter tray this morn. Going to the smoking cessation group today, just for the support as I get my kit from the chemist, unfortunately the chemist doesn't check your CO2 levels or offer the support that the cessation group does, so hopefully with the extra support this time I will kick it!

Hi Maz, good news that you're doing well. Glad I wasn't eating on reading your bit about smelling the cat!!! :( I was quite pleased to hear your Pharmacy doesn't do th CM reading as I'm sure that you'll benefit so much by being with others who really do understand you. Those groups are worth their weight in gold. :D

I have noticed that I have sort of struggled breathing the last couple of days. Almost like I can't get enough breath in to my lungs. It's not worrying me too much as a couple of deap breaths sorts it out but it's been happening more and more. Hopefully it's just my lungs repairing themselves!

Apologies kahunababy, i remembered someone had said something about their breathing when I was in bed last night, a bit late then I know, but...!

It probably is that the lungs are settling in to their old way of life, but it's been a while since they haven't been a bit clogged, so as you say, give them chance to recover a bit. If it does persist, play it safe and have a check up with your Dr. You may even be a little asthmatic..repeat may!

No need to panic at all as that only worsens things and the symptoms get worse due to nerves. Keep up with some excerise, but don't overdo it......and always remember, things would be so very different IF you hadn't stopped smoking!!! ;)

    You're ok, kahunababy...things are just changing round...but they're GREAT changes! :j

Says it all really folks...keeping busy at work or home achieves such great results and takes the mind blissfully away. ;)
