just wanted to give my encouragement to all those trying to quit.

I was one of these weird people that really enjoyed smoking. Loved it in summer months and after a nice meal. Our first born came along 17th November and i was determined not to be a smoking parent so i quit on 15th November 2010 and havent had one since!

You can do it but you have to have the right reason to. If its money incentive and its a strong enough one then go for it. Just make sure you're never quiting for other people unless the will is there too as each time you fail at quiting you lose self esteem and you'll find it harder to quit the next time.

Keep at it and think of all those £££! (i spend them on nappies now :rotfl:)

Thank you Bufger and I must admit your right about needing to want to quit for the right reasons. I have tried in the past and have always seen it as a stuggle whereas this time I am actually enjoying not smoking. The money was one incentive for me but I would say my kids and the health benefits have also spurred me along. It's still early days for me but I do feel like it's different this time. This forum has helped alot. Well done on your success, your baby will reap the rewards.

Good luck to you too Mazza111. Just think of the money you will save. I pop back on here a couple of times a day just to check in and generally unload.
    Just little old me!
  • Oh, and i know ii read something about bleeding gums a coupld of weeks back on here, how long will this last? everytime i clean my teeth or eat an apple they bleed :( should i go see a dentist or will they sort themselves out in the end?

I haven't posted for a few days, but have been keeping up todate with all the posts on here though!
In reply to alibob, my gums bled for a few weeks when I first quit smoking, especially when I cleaned my teeth. My dentist told me it is normal to experience this when you quit, as it is the oxygen getting back into your gums and it will stop on its own.
The same thing happened to my daughter with her gums when she quit. Hers were worse than mine and she ended up having to have a course of antibiotics from the dentist to clear it up.
DH is still smoking  and his cough is gradually getting worse of a morning.:(
He has started to take a champix tablet every day though so perhaps he is planning to quit again!
I daren't say anything to him though - it's not worth the aggro.
I am not tempted to go back to smoking. Just the stink of him when he comes in from the garden after a smoke and the sound of him coughing his heart and lungs up of a morning is enough to make me never want to go back there!
Have a good day all and keep up the good work!

Ok here goes!!! What feels like my 30th attempt at stopping smoking has just started. What went wrong before? Lack of will power, coming off NRT too soon, problems with the drugs (yes, I tried those too)!

So last week in the chemist, I spotted the new Nicorette spray and asked about it. Came away armed with patches and spray. First few days I had a couple of sneaky roll ups i nicked from my partner. Don't enjoy roll ups so was defeating any purpose whatsoever.

So yesterday was my first smoke free day. Patches still don't stick too well to my skin, but hey ho, I keep sticking em back on with sticking plasters. Couple of sprays of the mouth spray and it's good, apart from the awful hiccups that seem to have settled down now. For something to do with my hands, I'm "smoking" an empty ecigarette (yes, tried that too!)

Don't have any munchies as yet, but am armed with some big juicy apples as previous advice by sue :hello:

As a 40 a day smoker, I'm looking at the finances and have already saved £24 :j

I'll probably pop back ever day or 2 just for the moral support or the a$$ kick when I need it, gl everyone :)

Hun Invest in some surgical tape...it's only a quid or two and will save on the plasters...and well done you 2uge4p4.gif (quitters my smileys are from http://www.pic4ever.com)

Today I'm over the bug just about so I can go outdoors again...

One interesting thing was that when full blown bug yesterday I actually wheezed more on the e-cig...I'm just glad I wasn't smoking otherwise it'd have been a chest infection by now.....

So yeah this is me......with a problem down below cos the orange juice affected my bowels terribly (quick sos text to friends with kids for advice there...Now I know why wee ones cry so much when they have it. It burns!!!!) and a quick trip to Savers for sudocream and like talc...

Nose is still gurgling a little but loads better....

So yeah despite the 1.5 litres of coca cola yesterday I'm not too down which I'm pleased about....

And my VV should come end of week :)....just pray the batteries for it come before then..

No I don't regret ordering the eucalyptus from ebay yesterday even though a lot of my bug has now gone because I'm bound to get another sinusy bug this winter....

It was cheaper than buying it from the shops anyways...

HaHa thnx, allergic to micropore tho, sticking it on my thunder thighs so my jeans help hold it on :rotfl: Plasters make me itchy too but more tolerable.

How are u getting on with the ecig? I had one and did manage to stop with it for a couple of weeks until the battery died on me, didn't think to order 2 so I had a spare battery and eventually ended back on the fags. I did however feel like if it was in my hand i was constantly sucking on it, so had to make the conscious decision to put it down. And tried to only use it when needed. I also found myself wheezing on the ecig, but think i was trying to suck it too hard to get a better kick from the nicotine :rotfl: Even using it empty atm seems to be giving me something to do with my hands. So it's good for something :rotfl:

I'm actually fine all day until my OH comes home from work and starts smoking. He asks if I mind him smoking, I say no, and rush to the kitchen to do the dishes or make a cuppa, just so the temptation isn't there. Although he promises me he's going to give up when he's finished the 2-3 pouches of duty free that are still in the house :T

Have found that cleaning is taking my mind of things for the time being as u never seem to smoke when ur hands are wet :D

Thanks for the welcome back and congrats, Sue :j:j:j
How the 2 yrs and 7 months have flown by! I think Larmy and I quit around the same time? It's gone very fast for me - so much has gone on eg family issues, health problems, redundancy, and not once have I ever thought 'god I need a ciggie'. Like, never.

It's just a myth that smoking a ciggie relieves stress - all it does is to cause stress. The so called 'relief' from lighting up is just relieving a crave for nicotine. Get rid of dependency on nicotine, then all that's left is the habit of reaching for a ciggie in a stressful situation. I know you know all that Sue, just saying it in the hopes it helps new quitters just think a bit more about why they think they 'need' a ciggie! I don't mean it to sound that it really is that easy - it isn't, I know it - been there and got the quitting t-shirt. It's work, but my goodness it is soooo worth it. Good luck to all the new quitters here and LISTEN TO SUE!!!

evening non smokers! glad to see everyone is still trying hard. I am really struggling today so went to the pharmacy before i gave in and got an inhilator thingy and it seems to have worked - this time of night seems worse for me - last night even went looking to see if i could find an ashtray i hadnt got rid of to see if i could find a tabby in it - disgusting but i felt so desperate! thankfully i didnt find one!!! Have had however panics and sweats waking up in the middle of the night the last two nights and have really pigged out yesterday but in a healthy kind of way - all low fat snacks and fruit. have a little weight loss club at work and get weighed every week but i will not concentrate on weightloss just now but keeping my weight stable!

  • thanks voyager, will see if it stops in the next week or so. think i am due a check up soon anyways so will call up dentist and find out.
11 days for me now. i found last week really hard, no doubt due to having cigarettes the weekend before. this week's fairly easy, never think about smoking. When people smoke around me i don't think mmm smoke i think god that stinks! i really am annoyed with myself, i have only smoked 6, all on one night for nearly 5 weeks but i am only on 11 days cos of that one night, and i do love the good old day counter lol ho hum.
technically, however, i did not buy any that night so have still saved over 100 :) not that that makes it ok mind you

Day 3 : This will be my big test today. Anniversary of dad's death (lung cancer) on Thursday, so taking advantage of the weather and going to graveyard today, which is always an emotional time. I'm well armed and in full battle gear (fresh patch and new bottle of nicorette spray :rotfl:)

Found it quite hard when the OH came home from work last night and started smoking. But after he'd had a couple it didn't bother me. So much so I told him not to not smoke because of me, does that make sense?

Anyhoo, onwards and upwards!!! And looking forward to completing today :j
