Well, I nearly missed this important day!
I may not have been here for awhile but have read your posts daily. Your posts have kept me going through some very dark times.....very, very dark times. I must be one of the very small percentage of the population who becomes depressed when they stop smoking. And nobody wants to know, especially the Stop Smoking folk.
Congratulations to every one of you who has taken the first big step to becoming a non-smoker. You are doing so well. It does become easier: you will be able to get through the day without needing tobacco: you will enjoy parties and other gatherings: you will be able to sit in the same room as a smoker and not go loopy!
But, never let down your guard as old nick is waiting to grab you again. Cigarette smoke smells awful on a cold wet day but on a warm summer's evening it can be enticing. Just as well that we do not have too many of those!

Its now over 4 months with a little help from champix .( only stayed on it for 8 weeks as made me feel a little ill ) I was a 30-40 a day for over 40years person. . I still have 50 ciggies sitting right beside me on the desk . I have felt so tempted to take one , but I have resisted . I feel that if they are sitting there , then its my choice whether I smoke or not .
Something strange has been happening for the last 10 days or so in that I can smell a bonfire or burning most of the time . No one else can smell it and it goes with me wherever I go. Its driving me crazy . Has anyone else experenced this when giving up smoking or is this totally unconnected.
Hi Wirehair, I've had that smell, too. Eventually decided it was a coal fire two blocks away  I'm finding my sense of smell very acute at the moment - sometimes good, some bad:(Well, I nearly missed this important day!

Kiwi Someone on one of the earlier threads said she kept a patch in the back pocket of her jeans 'just in case' and I did the same for a few days. Just patted it for reassurance when I was tempted :rotfl::rotfl: Silly, I know but it worked.:j

mmikailian, you may well be feeling shattered now, while the body and especially the brain, comes to terms with not having nicotine swirling around it all, but it'll soon alter and you'll find yourself having a lot more energy and almost like a new person. JD's is right, I do go on and on about the need for exercise when we're quitting, but it's so very important and if you can do some every day, you'd naturally take more oxygen into your lungs which will go all around the body and liven you up. Try it for a week and see if it isn't so! Don't give into any temptations as this is the time you've longed for - and you've already gone a fairish time - and done so well!!
Hello and wonderful to see you back again, stupotstu! WELL done and very manycongratulations indeed!!! :T:T:T See you as you celebrate your 2nd year!
Where did the other Kiwisaver go to, Kiwi?! By golly, you're a changed person and it's a joy to see. Keep at the exercise it can only do you good!!! Re the patches, if you feel you could manage without them - give it a try - so long as you keep some by you can quickly o back. If you're not yet ready though, go on the halves, you're doing just great so listen to your body.wirehair wrote:Something strange has been happening for the last 10 days or so in that I can smell a bonfire or burning most of the time . Hi wirehair and congratulations on staying free from smoking and resisting the fags you have with you. If it acts as your safety blanket then go ahead and view it in the way you are, and best wishes staying away from them. Re the smell in your nostrils, it's all due to your sinuses after years of abuse from the fags. I have the same problems as you. We have a Buddliea shrub in our garden and all through the summer the blooms, rather than having their lovely scent, smell of ....cigars to me!!! Even washing hanging on my line smells cigar(ish). The times I can smell bonfires is no odds to anyone, but at least I now know I'm not alone. It's worth paying your Dr a visit to see if he can help you, I've had 2 sinus operations, they did help but I think we have to admit that sometimes we just can't beyond help - too many fags over too many years! All the best and if ever we can help, just drop by and pay us a visit.
Hi **Kat** and good for you in staying free from the evils of fags. To answer your question: Champix are tablets to help folk who have problems with quitting by other ways. The pills are taken for a certain amount of time and, to be honest, have an affect on the brain so that it pushes them away from fags. A lot of people have quit with it, but I'd always advise anyone to try other methods first. You're doing well on the patches ...stick to them, No pun intended.;)
It's great to see you again, heretolearn, you've done so very well indeed - over 5 weeks now which is marvellous!!!!! :T:T Once you're freed from the colds, which is all part of the process or many, you'll be feeling great for the spring time!
Keep it going for BOTH your sakes, xmercx! :T:T You've come a long way in that 2 weeks, as any ex-smoker would agree to, and just look at all the fags you HAVEN'T smoked!!!Think about the things you can't see, like the tiny hairs starting to grow back inside your bronchial tracts, the tar no longer building up in your lungs, your teeth not continuing to rot - or blacken! Think too about all the money the pair of you are NOT burning! Don't ever go back only to start it all over again in a short while - is it really ever worthy it!! Stay firm and be happy as the longings get less and further away.:)
HELLLO there oldreekie!!!!! :hello: Many, many congratulations on having QUIT the fags OR!!!!! :T:T:T With all yo've been through and however you're feeling right now and have don in the past - no one can take away the fact that you did this all by yourself!!!What some terrific stats you have up there, so much to be so very, very proud of. Drop in whenever you like OR, it'll always be good to see you, it's always good to see 'old faces'. Chin up with everything OR, all very best wishes for a very much brighter future - maybe in the spring - a time of new beginnings! I hope your DS is well - you achieved what you set out to do!
...wear a smile and never listen to those who do not understand depression and all the misery it brings, if we could feel better quickly and easily - wouldn't we?!! Prats! Especially the SSF, they should be ashamed of themselves!!! See you again OR, take care.
Good news Pauline, just always be on your guard and don't have too much!
.........would that be an open top double Decker  per chance, Tricia??!Sit tight ...or summat like that, young Sally, she will come when she's ready, but what a delight to be waiting for and looking forward to!
Wonderful posts of success from everyone in the last couple of days, and on towards another now. Day by day and looking ahead to a far healthier future with determination will get you to it!!! Keep at it folks.
