Did attempt to stop new years day, but caved in and thought just 1 more. The cigs I did have made me feel sick. Now back at the beginning again, so must do better this time. Going to see nurse today to get another prescription for champix.
I have none in the house, don't need to go anywhere near the shops, so no excuses today. Need to keep busy and keep reading this thread to keep me motivated.
Well done to everyone else that has suceeded.0 -
After my apparent relaxation methods last night, having a shower, going to bed early and reading before bed instead of tv didn't really help me much. I was still wide awake at gone midnight. Then fell asleep and woke up at 3:30am with a terrible sore throat, dry mouth and coughing up loads. Took some tablets as I had no lozenges, finally went back to bed and woke up with the same problems this morning. I think I have a cold coming as well as the nicotine clear out.
I shall soldier on though. I never liked smoking when ill so there's defo no chance of me going near one if I am ill for a few days.0 -
Hi,
Anyway, only half a days work today, so I might just treat myself this afternoon to something - I don't know what. I do know though that I am spending a lot less money - working on a twenty packet per day (occasionally more) I am putting £7.00 per day away - can't believe already am over £40 'in profit' now, tomorrow it will be almost £50 - god I cannot believe I wasted so much money on the dammed things!.
T-H
wow to £50 extra in a week :j:j:j being so [STRIKE]tight fisted [/STRIKE] frugal I smoked tobacco and got it duty free "off the back of van" so have only saved (runs off to check the silkquit) £5.14! but that's £5.14 in my bank rather than someone elses :T

Great posts guys! Must say i am glad i am not the only one who suffered with ' smoking hang-overs ' My friends look the micky out of me when i used to say that smoking cigarettes whislt drinking would increase my hang-over and even if i wasn't drinking and smoked a fair few cigarettes then i'd still feel a bit grotty in the morning. I will say though, since i've quit smoking i feel alot more alert and alive in the mornings and obviously a lot healthier too.
Well good luck to all you guys and girls that are hoping to quite smoking this new year. Depending on wich method you are thinking of using check out Smart Cigarettes. This is what i used to help me quite and i cant recommend them enough. If your interested take a look at smartcigarettes.co.uk
Good luck!:beer:0 -
Morning everyone,
Feeling really good so far, cannot quite believe it really.
I have woken up the last two mornings sweathing and have been coughing quite badly but expect thats the lungs clearing all the gunge out and do have bit of a cold.
Onwards and upwards, and echo that this thread is an excellent support mechanism.
We can do this

I'm not at all sure that I know what you're taking about, Jo... :whistle:I'm often here in the mornings - in my dreams - anyone else's too!! I'll possibly need a kip later as I didn't get a wink of sleep last night - too fretful for all this lot, must be!
Lovely to see you, come and visit more often.
A rotten shame about your sleep, Mat, but....it could so easily all be down to you having stopped. It happens so very much, but settles down after a short time. Get something decent for your throat today, like Strepsils or Hall's thingamys...,can't think, how about some 'Soothers', they're good for stopping and having throat problems or for colds too.
Hello renovation.girl and welcome to the thread, if you're stopping?! Very well done on being over 2 months free from fags!!! Thank Heavens you found that rollie so disgusting - I won't say it serves you right, but it does!!!Keep your freedom and get your health back on track!
Good to see you back, topsyturphy! No wonder you felt sick after having a ciggy when you're on Champix - you will do again if you should try one, that's partly what they're for - be warned! All the best with the Nurse. By the way, in case you need the old thread to read through, it's here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1384985
Still keeping a watchful eye on everyone then, Colin - why not, it does good to have folk at the ready in case no one's here for those who need it, if that makes sense? What am I saying? Of course it does! BTW, you're supposed to be stating how long in your Title bar if you will please, it helps everyone..so if you could I'd be grateful. Thanks.
I'm so very pleased you're having a much better day, Tally, so the inhalator's a bit gnarled, it'll match every bit of your mouth soon!! I think your wise to give the lesser patches a try - it can't hurt anyway, and you can always revert if necessary, at least you're prepared and I admire that determination. So sorry to hear about your paraplegia, one of the additional reasons to quit for though with lack of mobility as I'd guess it would leave you more prone to chest problems otherwise. Well done on the water!!! Cor, haven't we all wasted far too much money on blessed fags over the years - maddening! I smoked rollies towards the end - in an attempt to give it up as I hated Dad-in-laws, but that didn't work!!! It's amazing how we all find our cars so darned disgusting with that yukky and disgusting smell - we stank like that!!
Well done, debie, you have a great approach, maybe better this time than last perhaps? Or maybe you're just ready this time and that's why it's been easier for you. Either way, let's not query it too much and just go with it. I'm sure your right about all the gunge that's bound to be down in the lungs and respiratory bits and pieces. If your throat gets sore with coughing try throat sweets/lozenges, even the odd Strepsil won't hurt, though it may be a cold anyway, time'll tell. Well done, debie, onward indeed!
Keep at it folks, it's a wonderful life - grab it and love it.

Good morning all you brilliant people
Mat_Lock I really feel for you 'cos I don't sleep that well at the best of times and am awake more than asleep at the moment.
Some things I've tried - sometimes they work, sometimes they don't
but at least it's some more tricks to try
I keep the bedroom cool.
I get out of bed and walk to the foot of the stairs, turn round, go to the bathroom and clean my teeth, then go back to bed as if it is the first time - sometimes my little brain is tricked into going to sleep;)
I play little games with the clock like "OK. If I'm still awake in 30 minutes, I'll give up and go downstairs."
If that doesn't work, I go down and get a syrup buttie. The carbohydrates seem to help (sometimes).
If the worst comes to the worst, I go into the spare room where I can toss and turn and swear and cuss without waking DH. Otherwise I would probably murder him as I swear he shuts his eyes before lying down and is asleep before his head hits the pillow. AND he snores.:eek::eek:
It has been worse since I stopped the cigs but it seems to be a common problem so I just hope it will pass before I reach for a sharp knife.
On a better note, I forgot to put my half patch on this morning till gone 10 when I suddenly really, really wanted a puff.
Someone in one of the previous threads said she put a patch in the back pocket of her jeans as a safety measure when she stopped using them. I shall try that.
I do love the way this thread makes me feel normal in my reactions and the way everyone is so accepting of the different ways we cope with the process. Thanks for the support, guys.
I've saved over £145 now and have bought some jam jars to make marmalade. £10.36 total indulgence :j:j
Here's to another successful day on the journey to freedom. We can do it - together. :TBut how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
I had some Jakemans throat lozenges (at work) so will take them home for tonight if required.
Will try some of your methods there Triciaxx, thanks.0 -
