Hmmm didn't realise it was part of the problem. I haven't been properly for a few days haha and I've eaten a fair bit of protein and carbs this week.
Had a better nights sleep helped partly to the lemsip cough syrup I found and used before bed. Woke up this morning had a shower and coughed up a huge lungfull. Felt bloomin great after that.
Hoping I won't be as snappy today as I was yesterday. I managed to snap at a work friend and I really shouldn't have. I told him I was quitting the cigs and I hope he understood where I was coming from.0 -
Hi all,
Well, I am still going strong (well not strong really but still going). I can't believe it is day 7 already - it will be a week smokefree tonight.
Anyway, I had forgotten that the last time I visited my GP (about October time) I was offered a stop smoking course at the surgery 'sometime in 2011'. I said yes at the time then promptly forgot all about it.
And so it was that I was rung by the NHS non smoking advisor this morning. I explained I was on day 7 and using the mix of patches and empty inhalator and this thread to keep me going. She was quite concerned that I was going so quickly (considering I was on 40 cigs per day only eight days ago). Anyway, she has made an appointment for me to see her on the 18th January at my GP's surgery. I so want to tell her I am still smokefree then, even if I am going rather faster than she reccomends.
I must admit I am finding, after a near 'wobble' on day 5, that it is getting easier.
I forgot to put on a new patch yesterday morning, it was only last night I remembered (when a sudden craving hit me), so have now changed to putting the patches on of an evening now. I will see what difference that makes (if any). I find I do need the inhalator to have a 'puff' on a few times per day, such as after a meal, but I suppose puffing on fresh air is okay - after all it is free and healthy!!
I am thinking though that I am coming to a crossroads - ie what do I do next. Do I stay on the 'middle' sized patches, move to the lower sized ones, cut down on the fresh air inhalator or wait until I see the adviser?. All are tempting - I just don't want to end up going backwards now i have the momentum.
Oh well, I suppose I will just see how it goes.
To all out there - keep it up - you are keeping me going on the right track!!

Okay here goes
First post on this thread
Just rung the doctors and asked for a Champix prescription -waiting for her to call me back to let me know if Doc wants to see me before issuing the prescription. I'll do the clinic thing too but want to get started in the start taking it before stopping phase ASAP
Challenge
I work from home -Can smoke any time I want it's my house !
I've had an insane moment and have promised to run either a marathon or half marathon in the US in May for a friend's charity. There is no way I'll do it on 20+ a day
So now the snow has gone it's time to get down to business
Once I have the prescription in my hand -smoking in the house is banned. In the count down to quit date period it's out into the garden with me. I hate the cold so should be a good way to cut down prior to stopping.
I'm going to try switching from coffee to tea as the cigerette with a coffee habit is firmly wired into my brain
Benefits of quitting
Better health
More money.....I hate I can't have NSDs as I always buy a pack of cigs
Happy son-he hates it
Feeling of achievement
OK that's it-I've done it -posted.....now waiting for the doc to ring backI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Hi Duchy you are sounding very positive. Good luck with quitting (and the marathon - you are brave)This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Well done everyone! :j:beer:
Day 6 of cold turkey for me. I've had a horrible cold, sore throat, I can't sleep well, I'm tired as anything and I look at least 92 years old. I even frighten myself in the mirror and people at work are giving me funny looks.
But I think I'm over the worst and I feel a teeny bit better today physically, and a lot more positive about it mentally and not missing the cigarettes as much.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
Good afternoon everyone, I hope everyone's not feeling too bad today, or that if they are that you'll be feeling much better soon - both health-wise and quitting-wise.
Constipation is so common as we get further back to normality, another part of how smoking and quitting affect us, our bodies need to get accustomed to the change which, either way, is huge! Far more so when we start to get back to what is healthily a far better way of life. As DNS has said, you're seeking to get plenty of roughage, along with exercise - and plenty of water!Yes, I know I go on and on, but as many of you are already noticing, it's really good for quitting.
Hi Mat and so good to hear you got a much better night's sleep aided with the Lemsip Cough Syrup - also it was lovely to know you'd coughed up, what you'd obviously considered was, a good bit this morning, well done - another step closer to the cleansing. It clearly made you feel so much better afterwards. Well, Mat, your body's now FREE of all the nicotine, so anything you consider to be cravings now is only what Nic's done to your mind, which will be temporary even though you may experience feelings of 'loss' or ' something missing'...the longer you go on the less they become as well as becoming much weaker.
Oh what some wonderful news, Tally!!! It's so good when someone reports having 'turned a corner' but to then receive a medical boost via the NSH NSA to spur you on ready for the 18th is absolutely fantastic!!! All that on top of being hours from a whole week is darn good news indeed!!! Keep up all that you're doing Tally as it's obviously working well for you! Nothing wrong with using the empty inhalator whatsoever! As you've asked the direct question about the patch strength (whether to yourself or inadvertently to anyone out here) I think I'd possibly keep to the strength you're at for a couple more days. From then on working with the 'mind' after this first week is over it may well make it far more easy to make the switch without the risk of messing things up - the week free working in your mind so strongly that you can go on and succeed - and change the strength maybe on Saturday. If you're really unsure about changing then don't, and don't risk messing up all you've achieved this week! Keep aware of using the patch over night though as most people don't - due to sleep disturbance, see how it works for you though.
Very good indeed, Debie and well done on getting through the cravings, it shows it can be done. I hope your cough soon gets better (I've got one myself, but that might be post cold one) though it could be quitting related and so classed as 'normal' under the circumstances, your Dr will let you know - and be delighted at your news to!!
Hello duchy and a very warm welcome to the thread. You seem to have a great plan of action mapped out, good for you! I'd be surprised if you get the prescription without being seen, though it may depend on how much contact you've have with your Dr recently. Certainly Champix is sworn by for a lot of quitters and could well be just what you're needing. I hop you get it ok. Well done with recognising the coffee combination, it so helps if we know these things. Get back to us as soon as you're on your prescription - sooner if you wish, by all means. Any point in me suggesting you start smoking outside ASAP?? Well done on your list of reasons to quit. All the best duchy!
All for now everyone, see you all later.

Hi All
Hope everyone is well and smoke free. I can't believe it will be a whole week by tomorrow morning :j I really couldn't have coped without this thread and all who have been a tower of strength. We are one big happy smoke-free family.
Ross I hope your are feeling better
Today at work we had a dance teacher in for the children and we had to join in, so glad 'no-smoking-for-me' I kept up with all the moves, only I feel I've been robbed of my pound in weight I put on this last week, took me a week to 'get it' and 20 minutes to 'lose it' :rotfl: But I was not out of breath and did not need my asthma pumpWhich may I add I have not used for about 4 days.. I only needed it now and again, now I don't need it..
Must go Asda food shop now, have run out of biscuits, but will try to buy healthy biscuitsand more water or just get it out of the tap.
Keep up the quit

HI, everyone and welcome to all who have joined us.
I can't stay long as I have bread in the oven and I need to check it in a couple of minutes.
I put my half a 21mg patch on and this morning and discovered it had come mostly unstuck by lunchtime so have had about 1/10 of half a patch working for me today. I don't feel any different so the $64 million dollar question is . . . .
Do I try without a patch tomorrow? I don't want to prolong the wearing of them but I also know that it is early days yet and I'm bound to meet some triggers in the next week or so.
Off to check the bread. See you all later!
Confident but cautious. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0
