Hi everyone, I started posting about a month ago, but then the whole family were struck down with the lurgy, and I seemed to get a particularly bad dose of it, so was barely able to get myself into a horizontal position, never mind actually DO anything.

Anyway, I'm now more or less recovered, and trying to catch up on what's been happening. A belated Happy Christmas to you all, and Happy New Year too - hope you all had the christmas's you dreamed of, and that the New Year see's you all being happy and healthy, and wealthy would be lovely too ;)

There hasn't been much old style over the past few weeks, but starting to make up for it now, I did a big shop yesterday, and managed to bag lots of half price meat which is now bagged up and in my freezer, so that will see us through til the end of the month. I also managed to get to my local Indian wholesaler and stocked up on lentils, and spices, so plenty of curries and dahls in the pipeline too. WM is on, 2nd load of the day, and SC is taking care of dinner for us, mince with tatties tonight. Went to local shopping centre with DD this morning, she's not back at school til tomorrow, and got some good bargains in the sales, as its my mum's 70th birthday on Friday, so wanted to spoil her, and with all that we saved, she's got more presents than we planned, as our budget stttreeeeetched a bit further.

Tomorrow DD is back at school, and I have masses of studying with my OU course to catch up on, as fell quite far behind when I was ill. now, I'm off to try and read some more of your messages and catch up :D

Oh, before I forget, its DD's 9th birthday in Feb, and bless her, she know's money is a bit tight, so she's not expecting too much, but wants to have some friends round for an OS party, so Jelly and ice cream etc, which is great. But......I have no clue what to do for entertainment - she says she's a bit too old for pass the parcel and stuff like that - anyone on here got any bright idea's?? I did think a Kareoke (sp??) party would be good, but they are quite expensive to buy, and not sure if any of my friends have one I can borrow. Any other idea's.

Thanks everyone - I'll perhaps post it on the main board as well, and see if that throw's up any suggestions.

Have a good day, what's left of it, and if you've got snow, please keep it, I can't see any more of it ;)

    Jo

How about a pamper party? Face masks, nail varnish etc?

  • Hi all :)

Thank you all for your birthday wishes :D

I've done very little today, as OH has insisted on doing everything for me :p. We've walked the dog, then went out for lunch - both of the places I wanted to go to were closed however, so we ended up in a very nice little cafe in Bakewell. Am now sitting on the sofa watching Jeremy Kyle :rotfl:

Got lots of lovely presents, including 3 cross stitch kits, so I imagine I'll not be going out for a while! When we were out, I managed to get another slate frame so I can have two projects on the go.

OH still doesn't know if he's going away on the 12th. He had a b******ing off his superior officer today as things are running behind, but in all fairness, there's very little he could have done differently. We'll either know later today or tomorrow. OH thinks it'll happen, his superior, not. I hope that we know soon before my jaw cracks under that strain of permanently gritted teeth...

Dinner tonight is sirloin steaks with hasselbach (sp?) potatoes and garlic butter. Pud is a surprise, and mum is making it all :j

Decorations have come down :T and the living room has been dusted, but I'll leave any other cleaning until tomorrow (or the day after, or maybe the day after that...). Am off for my third shooting lesson tomorrow morning, while OH stays at home to sort his stuff out. Have had a sore throat now for 2 days and am getting a bit sniffly. I'm also shattered a lot of the time which OH was when he first got the lurg, so I imagine it's that.

Hope everyone's had a good day, especially if you've gone back to work, and hugs to those who need them.

    Tracy xx

Great idea I think - though I'm a bit more than 9 years old. Your budget would go a long long way with something like this.

Do they all like cooking? You could make pizzas - either prebought or HM bases - and then get loads of toppings in little bowls and they can make their own - then cook and eat.

    Anyway afternoon all!

Just finishing work (at home) - nice quiet first day back so don't feel too overwhelmed. Visit to the dentist too :( and another one in the pipeline cos he couldn't find the root canal  fortunately he's very nice and gentle. So I'm on soup and herby dumplings LOs from last night :D

No other OS today but must crack on with the OU stuff

Ideas for parties - i mostly did mine at home for my DD (now 18). I used to love the planning and preparation for all my kids parties. Ok...
    - painting pottery
    - crafting/ jewellery making
    - makeover
    - play performance

You say that DD too old for party games but there are games that can be played in teams for older girls. The most important thing is structure and a back up plan if game activity finishes early then kids wont get bored and time flies by quickly.

Well Im back in bed. Got up for the morning and was then shattered at lunch time so back here I am. Beginning to get a bit worried about my lack of stamina and general tiredness levels which are at an all time low. I really want to start meal planning and batch cooking with some help from kids dad but I dont have the stamina.

Still I have managed some washing and a quick tidy up in the kitchen so I have done something. Hugs x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Afternoon all,

Happy birthday v8monkeyboy...glad its being a good one.

JackieO....I often soften shredded cabbage ( of any type or colour) in a little butter, with some sliced onions, some caraway seeds, bit of sugar and some wine or balsamic vinegar ( or ordinary vinegar if you have neither of these) cover tightly and simmer slowly for an hour or so...if jarred this keeps well in the fridge, as you can heat as you want to go with a meal. I have sometimes used powdered cumin, harissa or coriander in place of the caraways, but think that really you can use anything you happen to have in spicewise (?)...just go easy until you get a taste you like.

OH doesn't seem any better today, he is very cold in spite of the fact that I need to strip off at least one layer every time I go into living room...due for Warfarin clinic to-morrow, hoping that they will send him to A&E or to be looked at by one of his consultant's team.

Think that cabbage and potatoes we are having with bacon should be cooked so had better see if I can coax him to eat a little...its his favourite dinner.

Welcome to newbies, hugs to those in need or want and congratulations to all who are celebrating.

    evening!

not had time to read the thread yet - not long got in from work and as usual been rushing round trying to catch up.

Came down with a cold sore last night:eek: I hate them as they are so sore and unsightly. Hope it goes before the Birmingham meet, want to look presentable:D

Had a letter from the hospital today, more abnormal cells found on my last smear so another colposcopy is looming.:( have lost count of how many I've had now over the years, what with this and the Mirena I'm fed up of being poked about still I mustn't moan as there are plenty far worse off.

Getting back on the OS topic. Tea here is still 'use up' so its mash, yellow stickered veg and burgers(quorn burger for me) with some gravy and some well past it mushrooms.

WM working overtime as usual. Ironing to do but no time to do it.
House reasonably tidy, floors could do with a vac but they are passable.

I hope everyone is well, will have a read later x x x
