    Good afternoon chums,
I have just been given a large white cabbage by one of my neighbours (around a kilo) as she says 'Oh you will find something to do with it as I know you never throw anything out' !! My fame is spreading locally.

    How about Sauerkraut??
Very popular in Holland and Germany, very versatile...
Basically it's pickled in a brine and eaten warm with mash potato and smoked sausage, but can be turned into an oven bake and allsorts...

Will dig you out some recipes if you want... (I am Dutch and will need to translate them from my cookbooks)

    Let me know...:)

Oh, before I forget, its DD's 9th birthday in Feb, and bless her, she know's money is a bit tight, so she's not expecting too much, but wants to have some friends round for an OS party, so Jelly and ice cream etc, which is great. But......I have no clue what to do for entertainment - she says she's a bit too old for pass the parcel and stuff like that - anyone on here got any bright idea's?? I did think a Kareoke (sp??) party would be good, but they are quite expensive to buy, and not sure if any of my friends have one I can borrow. Any other idea's.

Have you got a games console (or can you borrow one) with a game like Singstar or the Dance ones? That could be fun, me and my friends do this for a cheap evening in.....but we are late 20's and drink wine whilst playing! :rotfl:

but I dont think we could ship it over to here [israel]

Can I ask what it's like living in Israel? Are you from there or did you emigrate? It's on my list of countries to visit (mind you so is the rest of the world!!). I'm hoping to teach and travel in a few years time.

Oooh, she might like that - I could ask around my friends and see if anyones got one. (And then when they've gone home and she's gone to bed, DH and I can crack open some wine and have a go ourselves lol :D). She also loves the Mamma Mia DVD, and I think you can get a version of that with the words which come up on screen so they could sing along to it and copy the dances. :)

joeck68 - is she a girly sort of girl? would they enjoy a couple of films, ice cream and a sleepover?

Not that girly to be honest, she'd probably prefer a treasure hunt, but think the weather will be a bit cr*p still.......don't fancy freezing my nuts off at my allotment whilst they all try to find it, and we don't have a garden, so that wouldn't work. I did think of a sleepover, but we live in a really (I mean REALLY) tiny cottage, and her room is more like a cupboard, so she could only really have one friend to stay over, which then seems a bit mean telling her other friends to go home, whilst one stays! Another option would be to go into London for the day, as its in half term, and we live on the outskirts, but on the tube line, so it would be easy to get there, but cannot for the life of me think of anywhere we could go that would be fun, but still affordable! There would be 4 kids, plus me and DH, and our budget would be £100 max, which would have to include food, plus travel, though we do have oyster cards, so that wouldnt' be too bad. Any one down south with any idea's?? She doesn't fancy a museum (shame, as they are all free entry!). She says it would be too much like a school trip lol :rotfl:

Ha I love the singalong Mamma Mia DVD :). If you can't find copy with friends, try the local library.

they do the open top bus tour and if i remember rightly that was fairly cheap. you can stop off at different places and get back on no charge etc. you get to see the tower of london, buckingham palace... but she may think that too school trippy :rotfl:
