We were all the way down on page 3 :(

    Hope everyone's OK.

Huge trees are very un-neighbourly. We have some down the side of our garden which aren't huge but still mean we lose the sun in the evenings a lot earlier than we would otherwise. Luckily the only massive tree is at the side of our house so doesn't make too much of a difference to our light, but it does make it almost impossible to grow anything in the flower bed that's down the side of the house as it doesn't get any sunlight and all the moisture is taken by the tree roots. And I hate spending the autumn clearing up masses of leaves from trees that don't even bloomin' well belong to me

Though, without that big tree we'd probably not have had the fun times we had when our now sadly deceased cat was newly adopted and clearly hadn't been used to trees in his previous home - he got stuck up there several times in the first couple of weeks and we had to guide him down using a torch, shining it onto the next branch down so he could see where he needed to go. He wasn't very bright :o

I can see how annoying that conifer is pigpen. I like the cat spying on you from the roof :D

This is next door's jungle. His garden is to the west of us, so after lunch we lose the sun. When I moved in, the tree was smaller and the patio and lawn used to be in full sun, so we could eat lunch and evening meals outside. Now the patio only gets early morning sun, and by mid afternoon the whole garden is in shade :(

There's nothing we can do as it's one deciduous tree and shrubs, so it's not covered by high hedge laws or anything like that. The law is really unfair that he is allowed to let the tree get that big and spoil our use of the garden and there is nothing we can do about it, other than cut off anything that overhangs. That's a 6ft high fence in the picture.

Ours is the same.. West side so no sun round that part of the house until maybe 11am.. then we have about an hour before the trees block it.. there is that one and another the same next to it, then a massive elder then a huge manky apple tree.. so we then dont get any more sun until about 4-5 pm when again we only get about an hour.. then my grass dies, my garden never dries properly and we end up with a massive moss problem..

The cat is mine.. Peaches.. the stupid one.. she was the one in the fridge as well... and the one who forgets how to use the cat flap.. she isnt bright!

Hiya, what a strange day weather-wise here. It goes from beautiful sunshine to dark clouds and rain, and back again. Very windy though! I'm sorry I keep lurking on this thread but not getting around to posting! Will try harder to post.

We went to mother care on Sunday to look at stage 1 car seats for DD. They are supposed to go from 9kg. DDis 10 months old but still only 8.5kg. But she seems so ready for a forward facing seat. Any thoughts on whether it is a big no no to move her up before she hits 9kg?

I am keeping mine rear facing until she is about 5 as it is safer.. check out internal decapitation.. it is one of the biggest killers of child car passengers as their head is so heavy it gets ripped from the neck. In many countries it is not legal to have the forward facing until much older.. America they are hoping to get it raised to 2-2.5, in Sweden it is 4 currently.. and their infant death rate in RTAs is less than 1% .. here there are several hundred children killed every year.

imo.. yes it is a big no-no to have her forward facing at 10 months. Most car seats are fine until about 15 months now.. so long as their head is not over the top of the back of the seat they are fine.

The wind blows all the tree debris in our garden and I have to clear it up. The leaves will be coming off soon, which means I'll be out there picking them up and filling our garden waste bin.

It's a cherry tree, so in the spring we get the blossom blowing everywhere off it, and then in the summer the cherries either fall off, or the birds eat them and then do cherry coloured poo's on my washing  I rarely get bird poo on the washing, but in the summer it happens loads.

Charlotte has started doing more formal lessons at school. She said they've got a blue book each and she got a sticker for writing lots of number 2's. She's excited about tomorrow as she thinks they might be writing curly c's :D

Hi Claire! We made the change and really pleased so far. We've got Avent bottles now. Only thing is that the comfort formular says it needs teats that are medium or fast flow. We've got the Avent variflow teats on but they say it's for 3m+. We tried the correct teats but poor LO was sucking hard for an hour to get through about his bottle! I hope the 3m teat doesn't cause other probs?!

I've been doing a lot more at night and taking A out on my own and by doing it I feel far more capable. I decided that by my DH doing so much it was in fact denting my confidence. Perhaps give yourself a target to do something that requires a slight push - I bet you'll feel better for it.

I hope you're still seeing some improvement with your little girl.

Claireloo I hope you're doing well too!

I never even realised about the teats until you posted this:o I've now changed to the medium flow size 2 teat (we're using the mam anti colic bottles) and P is feeding well with it so far so thats a relief. Last night she slept straight through from 1.45 to 7.30 without waking which completely shocked us as the previous few nights had been horrid but fingers crossed it means we may have turned a corner. I'm not getting my hopes up too much though, we'll just take it one day at a time. I've also been being brave and venturing out on my own with P (albeit only short wee walks) but you're right, it really does help with the confidence levels. Who knew being in charge of such a small thing would be so scary:rotfl:

I've got a horrible cold now and coughing and sneezing 3 weeks after a c-section is not something I'd recommend:eek: My tummy feels really achy all the time now:( I picked up some cough medicine this morning so hopefully it will clear up soon.

Have you all seen the grabbit thread about the baby reductions in Tesco? Lots of things instore at 75% off- I managed to get:
Fisher Price Precious Planet Musical Gym £16 (was £64.95)
Fisher Price Waterfall Soother £8 (was £34.95)
Fisher Price Precious Planet 2 in 1 Mobile £6.50 (was £24.95)
Lamaze The First Years Pyramid Gym £11 (was £44.95)
    Wilkinet 4 in 1 baby carrier £10 (was £42.95)
Peeps on the grabbit board have been getting baby monitors at 75% off and some stores have the widgey nursing pillows for £4.75 but unfortunately my local didn't stock this. Just a heads up that it may be worth a look in your local store if you have any bits you need to buy.

Oh and P is definitely not a noisy sleeper, in fact she's the opposite. She is almost too quiet and I find myself constantly checking on her breathing. But then I suppose I'd be complaining too if she was noisy and keeping me awake:D

Hi Claire, I generally think cough medicines don't work but a good old dollop of honey in tea does wonders.

    Morning

I don't agree with cough medicines either - sorry Claire! When you cough, you cough up the germs and irritants in your throat. If you take something to stop you coughing, it keeps the germs inside and you feel ill for longer.

Best to take something to soothe your throat like honey in a hot drink, or try eating an ice lolly or on an evening try a soothing liqueur.

I still feel yuk with this cold too and wish it would go away :( Just working from home today though so I can take it easy, and I've just brewed a big pot of filter coffee to get me through the morning :D

Have a good day all xx

Hope those with colds feel better soon!

Sounds like some good bargains in tesco, maybe will have to go brave our one.

WE are off for lunch with mums from one of our baby groups today which should be nice. Hope you all have nice days.
  • Gosh it's been ages since I've been on here! Hope everyone is doing ok, will have a read back in a moment.

Can anyone just tell me roughly how many/how long an 8 month old baby should nap for during the day?

I know they're all different, but just at the moment DS seems to be rubbing his eyes and getting grouchy every couple of hours. I think he may be feeling a little under the weather, although he hasn't got any visable symptoms.

At the moment he has a 40 min or so nap after breakfast (about 8.30am), then a nap after lunch (about 1pmish) and then a nap in the afternoon around 4pm.

He is so grouchy at the moment though and keeps rubbing his eyes, he seems to be sleeping more than usual.

    Any wise words?
