William is 4 months old today and no cold so far :) First teeth def coming through though, so any great teething advice will be very happily accepted. He is coping very well, seems to be worst from 5 pm but then sleeps quite well, although needs an extra feed at night at the moment despite thinking we may have cracked the night feed alltogether.

Well all is good here, going to hang some washing up outside.

    Hi all

would love to join you on this thread! Haven't been on mse much since lo was born in sept but i do miss it! Lots of you will know me from preg thread etc. I found the preg thread really great and have now become great friends with another mum from there who lives locally, we see each other a few times a week and I'd be lost without the friendship! So mse is fab

re nappies, we're still using up disposeables at night but lo's bum is always damp from them which we never get with our real nappies. A lot of my hardcore nappy friends recommend wee notions night nappies.

re colds, lo's had a couple, and recently had mild croup we think. I am still breastfeeding but think being out and about on buses, in cafes etc doesn't help!

    Morning all

    welcome rach - I remember you x

Bob has constant colds it seems, but like rach I think its where he is getting out and about and the older ones bringing germs home from school. I think he is starting to get over this latest one.

I'm just waiting for everyone to wake up so we can go shopping. OH was home around 2am so should be up soon and Bob went for his nap at 9am so again should be getting up.

Bob only fussed a little around 4am last night and rather than sticking my hands in his basket and trying to put his dummy in I left him to it and he settled really quickly, might be time for the big cot soon. I just don't want to move him. I like listening to him sleeping. Although it will be nice to be able to read in bed again.

LL- I'm in need of teething advice too. Poor Tigger woke in the middle of the night due to his teething pain. It was the first time since his teething started he's actually woken from the pain as he's been sleeping through so far. Had to get up and give him some teething gel to soothe, when I got there his eyes were still closed and he was moaning really loudly in his sleep rather than crying.. Am assuming it's only going to get worse right? Any tips would be appreciated here too.

Silly mummy ..I took the plunge and tried the Bumgenius with both inserts and an extra from an ittibitti I had but at 5am when he woke it was starting to leak a bit so I changed him. Will prob try again in a few weeks when he's feeling better with 2 bamboo inserts rather than 2 microfibre ones. Probably wasn't the best choice of nights to attempt that.:(

    Hi Rach

Have to agree with you there - when LO was about two I switched to reusuables at night at someone gave me some from freecycle and they were fab. We actually used disposables during the day as LO only ever did one poo and varied when so I kept getting caught out when out and it just stuck. Am hoping to use real nappies with the next one though so any recommendations appreciated. I liked the bamboo ones before but only ever had one as they are pretty expensive and I had already bought all I was going to before Lo came along. I'm putting wants out on freecycle now for real nappies as hopefully then I'll get to try some more out before deciding which are best for next LO.

DS2 has conjunctivitus so no playgroup today . On a brighter note have finally managed to sort him out a space at my preferred playgroup (think old fashioned church hall type where parents still help out) so he will be 4 times a week from Sept. :D

Yeah! Another Londoner :) I think we are more exposed to viruses living in London, Erin's had loads and since starting nursery (October) she has had one every other week - it's just starting to settle down now.

Didn't have a good night last night, Erin woke at 11pm, 5am and 6am. I think she was just hungry as she didn't each much food yesterday but it could be the next cold/sore throat so I'm keeping an eye on her. In other news she has started saying Deeabby - no idea what it means but she keeps saying it repeatedly!

I hadn't thought of the fact that there might be geographical variation in prevalence of bugs.

I also wonder how they count them if they appear to be continuous.

Hi Rach  nice to see you over here. IIRC our little ones were born on the same day.
  • Hello guys :)

Nice little thread this, very handy for someone like me, im a new(ish!) mum, my little boy is 2, he's hard work! :o

Basically, he's just started doing something new when he gets very frustrated and that is biting his fingers. He puts them all in his mouth and he bites down really hard, so hard that he leaves substantal dents on his poor skin! He's only started doing this since Sunday, i've never ever seen him do it before then. When I took him to nursery yesterday, i pointed it out to his nursery teachers, and they responded by saying "oh thats a new one! We know he slaps his face when he's frustrated but he's never done that one before." What!? He's never ever slapped his face when frustrated in front of me - why wouldnt they have told me that he was doing that!?

So I was wondering, does anyone have any advice on how i could stop him from biting and slapping himself? I've tried distracting him, but when he's having a massive tantrum there is only so much i can do in that respect..!

Anyone know why he's doing it? Its so distressing.. :(
6 debts down - 1 to go: just over £1000 though, soon soon....

Staying happy and positive through 2011 (hopefully!) :j

Hi all, I've been lurking since bambino was born in November and know all the names from the pregnancy forum. Can I ask about starting spoon feeds? My LO is 16 weeks and was 11 days overdue. She is breastfed, but I have been giving her a few ounces of formula every evening because she would feed every 4 hrs during the day and in the evening would feed at 6, 8 & 10pm. At the 8pm feed I don't have much milk myself, so hence the formula. She sleeps from 10/11pm for 8-9 hours without a feed and I actually wake her to feed her as I am bursting with milk.

She has started to be very cranky during the day (for the last couple of days) and today fed every 2 hours. Do you think I should start to introduce a spoon feed? I have AK book, so know what to give her, but the 6 month advice is putting me off. Or do you think she could be teething? She is drooling a lot, but no flushed cheeks and is sleeping well.

    Thanks for the advice.
