  • Good luck for weigh-in, Dizzy! You can always pretend to have a funny turn if it looks as if the scales are going too high ... :D

    Sorry to nit pick but...

Tomato Puree, 1 level tbsp, 1/2syn on all plans

So not quite syn free but if split into several portions it would be negligible

I never ever syn tomato puree; if passata is free (and a waste of money for me, as I'd use a bit and the rest would go off in the couple of weeks until I use it again) I am determined that tom puree is also free - that's just me though, I'm quite rigid about other things.

Totally agree! Only problem is start-up costs. I'm so used to using packet ingredients that I have almost no herbs and spices in my store cupboard, and they are really expensive if you need to buy 4 or 5 for a single recipe! I'm trying to build up one at a time, unless anyone knows where they can be bought for cheap?
Lots of other people have given the same advice - keep away from supermarkets with their fiddly little jars and get yourself to an asian supermarket OR check out ebay or somewhere, you can buy loads of spices online and they weigh very little so postal costs are low.
Had my weetabix for breakfast, then was meant to drive hubby to glasgow. Left just before 10, went to his work to pick up some stuff he needed then he faffed around at work and we didnt get going til nearly half 12. Got to glasgow at about 2 and i was so hungry i had the shakes:eek: Had popped a banana and alpen light in my bag thinking i'd be back by lunchtime. DD and I went to Pizza hut as we were both hungry, so kinda ruined my well planned day! We didn't get home til about an hour ago, don't think my banana and alpen would have kept me going til then:o
Tomorrow is another day, annoyed though as i had a good day planned.

Bella Italia is good for when "caught out" foodwise - actually even if I have fruit with me I'll often pop into Bella Italia and have their pasta with tomato sauce and prawns, it's yummy and I count it as a few syns for the parmesan and any oil they cook it in, but not much. I've forgotten what it's called on the menu.
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!

Just back from weigh-in and I lost 2lb!! Very very pleased with that. I was slimmer of the week too for the second time in 9 months haha.

3lb to go to my high target, 10lb to go to my ultimate target. I'm off to London on Sunday to go to the theatre so need to work out a low syn lunch on the go.

    Hi Antonia :j

Only other places I can think of are wholesalers, or country specific grocers (ie indian, chinese...) ask around (friends & colleagues) as surely somebody will know where to get better and cheaper spices for you...

    Froggy :D

Defianatly go indian supermarket/wholesalers. Fortunatly I work just round the corner from a great one but they do all the herbs and spices you could ever want and so much more cheaper than usual supermarkets....I buy my staples in bulk there too like Onion, Potatoes- big sacks 5-10kg for nothing!
    :T

  • Hi All

I havent posted since well before christmas im afraid, been busy and away. Glad theres a lovely new thread....i havent read all 22 pages (my bad)

Hope everyone ok and back on track after christmas and new year festivities.

I got to club 10 just before christmas which was my christmas wish in group so i kind of went a bit crazy and put on a whopping 6lb :D but im back on track now so hopefully it should come back off fairly quickly.

I cooked chicken tarragon onepot yesterday and had some for lunch today and tonight i had a lovely meal of jacket potato, pork chop, savoury rice and frylighted mushrooms n peppers with spices it was deeeelish :)

Having big stirfy with prawns tomorrow evening.....i must say it is actually quite nice to getting back to eating healthy never thought id say it but ive missed my fruit n veg lol
    calamityclare :p:hello:
  • Food consumed today (extra easy day):

    B: fruit (banana and pear)
L: chicken sandwich on wholemeal bread (HEB), salad
D: Quorn sausages, potatoes and mushy peas

HEA - skimmed milk used in coffees
Snacks - lots of fruit, including yummy strawberries!
    Syns - options white choc drink (2), and a 2 finger kit-kat (5.5 syns)

I had a grocery delivery tonight with lots of nice "free" and low-syn value goodies. I also plan to go through the freezer/fridge/cupboards at the weekend and find out the syn values for the food that was already there, so I can work on best ways to use it all up. Don't worry, in typical money saving style nothing will go to waste - anything with a particularly high syn value can be fed to my tall, skinny teenager :rotfl:.
