    SW quiche in Mike:

steamed new pots in skins (cut into all approx same size) in little water and sprinkling of Aromat = 4 mins - then roughly mashed with butter bud sachet

one whole onion sliced and "dry fried" (actually I used worcester sauce and a splash of the potato liquid) and some herbs = 10 min half power, faster if full power, until softened and smelling lovely
meanwhile slice some mushrooms and chop some smoked bacon, grate some real cheese (weigh it to assess HE or syns when portioning out finished product). Whisk up 2 eggs (it would have taken one or two more eggs but I like more filling than egg in mine) and spray your flan dish. This is done while onions are cooking and you have time for a game of solitaire on pc as well

Add mushrooms and bacon to onions, stir about and heat for 1 min on high. Tip into flan dish, top with eggs, then with cheese.

cook for 4 min on medium heat in Mike. Voila.

20 mins. If you did fewer onions in a shorter time, which is easily possible but I wanted them melted, you could do it in 15 mins. Most of my meals take approx 15 mins beginning to end :D

sorry I'm not good at writing out recipes because I am of the "chuck it in" school of cookery.

excellent - i'll have to give that a try, solitaire optional, of course. ;);););)

Oh dear have fallen off the wagon, skinned my knees and can't get up [well not today anyway]. Have cooked and eaten full fat lasagne [family insisted] & garlic bread. Have been attacked by the chocolate fairies the last few days too. My head just isn't in the right place at the moment although still made sure there was plenty of superfrees and still having fruit and yog minus the meringue to save syns [no idea why as everything else is full of syns] .

My hubby tried on the Harry Potter hoodie and it fits him [hes 3XL] so theres no way its gonna look good on me. Have washed it and hope it'll shrink a bit. Hate to disappoint my sis by not wearing it, it wasn't cheap either [she left tag on :D].

Anyway food wise this week has been off plan so a gain at the weekend is inevitable but no-one to blame but myself. Hopefully will get my head back in the zone soon. Be glad when this month is over and good times come round again.

I'm glad others are having losing time, well done all :T

IMO you're either Food Optimising or calorie counting - there's absolutely no need to do both.

If you follow the spirit of FO properly - varying your foods and eating for health (which are the basics of SW plans) you WILL lose weight.

Honestly I think you're making it far more complicated than it needs to be :)

700 calories a day is not healthy though! I've followed FO for 10 months, and lost 2.5 stone so I know the principles are sound, however for me when I am really good I don't eat enough! It's enough to satisfy me, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed just how little I was eating.

I started noting the food I was eating using my phone which happens to count the calories for me and I noticed where I FO was going wrong for me.

Calorie counting wouldn't work for me as SW has taught me what foods I should be eating. So doing a little of each is working nicely for me. I don't find it complicated by any means as writing down what I'm eating is good practice. If the SW iPhone app had this ability and let me search for syns I'd use that instead!
  • Hi folks. This is the first week I've missed my WI but it was my birthday today and we had folk around this evening. I've lost 10.5 lbs in 5/6 weeks so far and I'm pleased with my weight loss so far but I could do with some advice/tips from you guys.

I'm a bit bored with the meals I've been cooking for the family - mince, spag bol, chicken, chilli - that sort of thing. Are there any of the recipe books that anyone would recommend to give me a bit more variety? (I'm doing EE)

I'm also finding it really expensive to keep buying all the fruit particularly - if I buy for example some pineapple and mango (ready prepared - it's no cheaper to buy it and prepare it myself) and then a melon - that alone is costing me £5. I usually add some apples and grapes to the list too...it's really only lasting maybe 4 days maximum and then I'm back at the shops. That's just the fruit, the veg can be pretty pricey too. Anyone got any ideas as to how I could find a less expensive way?

I remember ages ago someone said one of the food shops always had bargains on Quorn - think it was either Farmfoods or Iceland - can anyone remember which it was? I do love Quorn :)

I'm really enjoying SW and desperately want to carry on and lose all the weight I need too, but the expense is proving a problem as we don't have much money and the prices in the supermarket seems to go up every week.

Any advice would be really really helpful :)

    Hi Savingmum,

When I started, about 2 months ago I bought an information pack off ebay for about £2, the seller e-mailed the documents and it had all the information about red, green and EE plans and also had lists of superfree foods, Healthy extras and a huge list of syn values, it was great as it gave me a lot of the information I needed to understand the pan. If you type in slimming world and sort by lowest price it should bring it up.

    Hope that helped

If you wanted a starter - you need to choose a SF food - e.g. melon or hm tomato soup - if you wanted salmon for example you would have to count syns as if you were on a green day

Another example is if you wanted some sausages with your dinner say they were 1 syn each on red/EE on a SE day you would have to count the green value (about 4 syns?)

Also, if you wanted to have a snack & on EE you would normally have a mugshot that is free - you would have to find the syn value for a red day (about 11 syns???)

Does that make a bit more sense?

I am useless at explaining things! :rotfl:

Sorry if i have confused you more x :o
Thats brilliant thanks it makes perfect sense now

In a perfect world I would agree, but to be on a fat restriction diet and not check the calories too is crazy. This isn't just about losing weight - it's about doing so safely and with the aim of keeping it off, and eating ~1000 calories per day isn't going to meet either criteria.

Checking calories isn't complicated at all, it takes no longer than keeping a food diary, and there are tools online and apps to work it out for you. It's so easy on SW to not eat enough, and from experience in group that's when people suggest dropping a few syns - meaning even less calories. Whereas on the contrary I eat like a horse but don't syn at all for at least 6 days per week unless there is a special occasion. I check my calories and then make them fit the SW plan, so I'm still following FO but with a healthy calorie range. Win win!

Anyway, 1lb off for me tonight. A little disappointed as I wanted my 4.5 stone award, but considering I've been sofa bound thanks to being flu'd up it's not too bad. Weekend in Dublin this weekend so my weigh in next week should be interesting :D
