Hi all, I'm having a hungry day!!! Ended up buying 5 chicken nuggets from the hot counter in morrisons for a mid-morning snack and thinking that I'd blown it....then realised that's what syns are for!!! So.....hopefully back on track now! I'm hoping that having had a huuuge lunch I'll be able to resist having cake when I pop to MIL's later!! I really don't want it so fingers crossed! I did manage to resist the big greasy breakfast sandwiches and choccy bars that the others on my course were having! It's because I'm tired, having been up at 6am 11 days in a row, 1 more to do then I can have a mini lie-in on Saturday!!

I think EE is best for today:

    Brekkie - porridge (HEA&B) & banana
Snack - 5 chicken nuggets (Going to call it 6 syns as that's what 4 MaccyD ones are and they were much nicer and less greasy than them!)
Lunch - chicken, leftover sw roasties, dynorod soup, yogurt (jelly)
Tea - lasagne (2) and salad, might have a small jacket potato depending on how hungry I am!

Good plan batman - except I'm now wondering how the heck I'm going to fit in cooking and reheating whichever dish, since we are out from 2-about 5, and need to leave again at 6 ish. Slow cooker blew up and I don't trust my oven to cook things slowly without burning the pan, so I'm thinking stick the meat back in the freezer for another day!

Harumph. This is why I find red days hard! Next question: what can I buy in a small local shop which is red day friendly and quick and easy to cook in 1/2 hr!? I suppose I could make some soup and we could have that with brown bread, or I can make sandwich for friend.

    Hmmmm..

Would your little shop have bacon? You could use the lean bits to make a BLT using your HEB of bread and have that with your soup.

That's truly amazing, I don't think I've ever heard of such a loss in a week. You must be so delighted.

Just thought I'd mention that Philly is definitely a HEB (I just checked my book as I've been caught with this before). So you could either have one bread roll or syn it and you have a HEA going spare.

Thanks for that! I JUST saw that in time!

I'm still rubbish at the moment but I am really going to try this week (trouble is I've said this for a few weeks now!)

Oh, just got back from shop, but that would have been lovely... much drooling at the thought! Thanks!

Bought corned beef and brown rolls, just had one (b for roll and is corned beef 1.5 per slice?) as so busy planning dinner I forgot about lunch, so will syn the roll tonight (6) and have cheese in it as my other a choice.

Hi all - I'm quite new on these forums but just stumbled across this thread. I have been doing Slimming World since last January, I joined after years of yo-yo dieting and my weight had reached 16st 10lb (I'm 5ft 9 and was a size 20).

So far I have lost 5.5 stone and am now in a size 12, I feel amazing! I have half a stone to go until I am at target and can't believe how easy it has been.

Food optimising definitely works and I can't recommend it enough to anyone who is considering joining!

    Wow Polly:T

What a result. You are inspiring me.

Do you have any tips for us newbies:)

  • good luck dizzy for your wi sending weight loss dust your way.

takeiteasy big hugs to you xxxxxxxx

well last night after wi was off plan as I had some celebrating to do as I passed my final assignment and I'm now degree qualified :D

and I lost 2.5lbs too, although that would have been more had I not been constipated so I'm making dizzy's famous dyno rod soup and I may even put sweetcorn in it.

well done to all the losers ;)

Hi guys, I got to target last October and haven't been to group since November. I'm now about 6lb over target  and am thinking of going back. Does anyone know whether I have to rejoin as it's more than 3 months since I went, or do I just go back as an over target, target member?? Many thanks xx

You'd have to pay but you would be able to keep your status as a target member. Once you're down to within 3lbs of your target you would not need to pay any more :)

  • Big hugs for all people who need them, and can I please have a little share of the hugs myself as I got home to find my dear sweet cat, Micky (Mick Jagger) had died. I was kind of expecting it, he's been not himself for about 4 days ... but I am still very very sad :o( For someone so self-effacing there's a big gap in the flat tonight - usually he would be on my knee or right against the pc; occasionally demanding to be let out/in the front door as he preferred to go the long way round for a wee then back in thru the cat flap. I miss him. Micky came to live with me the week my mum died in 1995, bringing home to me that it's 16 years since I saw my lovely Mum too :(

I'm so sorry about your cat Blackberry - our animals hold a massive place in our hearts don't they?

Also I'd like to give hugs to everyone who's been affected by the big C. My lovely Dad passed away almost 4 years ago with bone cancer and it was a soul destroying experience for all concerned - my heart goes out to anyone with a family member affected by this horrible disease :(

Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind another newbie joining the thread? :)

I joined Slimming World last week (not for the first time, but the last time was twenty years ago so probably doesn't count). Everything has changed! lol lol

I do have a question - I don't normally eat breakfast or lunch at all, so I'm trying hard to do that, but I'm mostly having fruit, maybe with a Mullerlight or Hi-Fi bar as that's all I can really stomach. I eat a lot in the evenings, but will not eating a lot during the day ruin my weight loss?

Many thanks for any suggestions x

It really is better if you can eat regularly throughout the day. Your metabolism works harder for a period of time after you eat, therefore during the post-food time, you will be using more calories and thus losing weight.

You don't need to eat a lot in the mornings if you can't face it, but little and often is by far the better way as far as weight loss is concerned :)

Also, I've got a party to organise and I wonder if anyone has any good ideas for free or low syn party food, I'm sure i've seen people mentioning quiche on here before, any ideas would be hugely welcomed.

    Emma :)

    Party Foods and niibbles
    • Use quark as a base for Free or nearly Free dips, e.g. Mix 8oz quark with a clove of crushed garlic and 4 tbsp chopped herbs. Chill until required then use as a dip with vegetable crudit!s or fill celery stalks and hollowed out tomatoes.
    • Grate a Healthy Extra portion of cheese into a pot of very low fat cottage cheese, add 2 crushed cloves of garlic and serve with batons of cucumber, carrots and celery.
    • Blue cheese dip is heavenly, but can be incredibly high in Syns at around 3½ Syns per level tbsp! To make a low-Syn version of this tasty dip, crumble a Healthy Extra portion of Danish Blue into a pot of quark or very low fat natural fromage frais. Chill overnight and the whole tub will take on the flavour of the strong cheese. The whole tub will count as 1 Healthy Extra on Green or 5 Syns on both choices! You could also try this technique with other strong cheese, peanut butter or chocolate spread -If you find any other delicious combinations - let us know!
    Buffet
    • Free Scotch eggs - Shape the sausage meat from Syn-free sausages around 1 hard boiled egg, making sure that the egg is covered. Crush a Scan bran with a rolling pin (place the Scan bran in a plastic bag first!). Roll the covered egg in the crumbs until evenly coated. Bake in a preheated oven at 180ºC for about 25 minutes. Use the Scan bran as part of a Healthy Extra b choice for a super Free finger food, or count ½ Syn per crispbread used. (You can find Scandinavian Bran biscuits in most health food shops)
    • Chilled mini-kebabs - cherry tomatoes, rolled up ham/turkey, cubes of cucumber, inches of celery, squares of pepper and basil leaves to make a delicious finger food that's Free on Original.
    • Potato salad - Made with boiled salad or new potatoes and very low fat fromage frais. Flavour with garlic or fresh herbs for a fresh and free salad on Green.
    • Pasta salad - Made with 100% Free Food. Try mixed beans, sweetcorn, celery, raw mushroom, pepper, cherry tomatoes, radish, spring onion, and flavour with your choice of passata, very low fat natural yogurt or fromage frais for a Free extravaganza on Green. If you feel like a change, why not swap pasta for cooked rice or couscous
    Sausage rolls
    2 Quorn sausages
Laughing cow light triangle (part HEA)
    2 slices WW bread (HEB)

Use a rolling pin to 'flatten' out the bread.
    Spread bread with laughing cow.
Roll bread around the sausage and hold together with a cocktail stick.
    Brush with beaten egg
    Bake in oven till crispy.

    Cheesy pizza toasties
    2 slices WW bread (HEB)
    1 Tomato
    2 Spring Onions
    4 Mushrooms
¼ red and ¼ yellow pepper
    42g Mozzarella Cheese (HEA)

Lightly toast the bread on both sides
Meanwhile, roughly chop the tomato, spring onions, mushrooms and red and yellow peppers. Grate the Mozzarella Cheese.
Top both slices of toast with the veg and scatter the cheese over. Place under a medium grill until the cheese bubbles and the veg are tender.
For extra taste spread 1tbsp of tomato puree on the toast under the veg (add half a syn for this)

    Onion Rings
    1 lb mild onions
    3 egg whites
57gms dry wholemeal bread crumbs (HEB)
    2 teaspoons dried thyme
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon paprika
    ¼ teaspoon pepper

Cut onions into ½-inch slices; separate into rings and place in a bowl. Cover with ice water; soak for 30 minutes. Drain.
In a small mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. In another bowl, combine the bread crumbs, thyme, salt, paprika and pepper.
Divide the crumb mixture among three large re-sealable plastic bags. Dip a third of the onions in the egg whites; add a few rings at a time to crumb mixture and shake to coat. Place on a baking sheet coated with non-stick cooking spray. Repeat with remaining onions and crumb mixture. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until lightly browned and crisp.

Hope some of these help :) Added to post on Page 1 of this thread
