  • Afternoon all,

Not a happy bunny atm - made a soup sunday night for the slow cooker - loads of veg & stock - whilst was on i soaked some dried beans in water overnight - Then i put them in the slow cooker with the soup in the morning (drained first!) and was really looking forward to having some for my tea, after i had been on the cross trainer!:A

But when i went to eat it the beans were still hard! So i tried the microwave for 5 mins (which then needed a thorough clean as it overflowed even though i had covered with clingfilm!:o) But still hard

Then i put in pan & boiled for about half hour but they were still hard!

So i gave up and defrosted some swede soup! :A

I left it in the slow cooker again last night & when i stirred it this morning before going to work i though i would see how the beans were doing - still hard!

Left it on today - hopefully they will soften - but if not i will have to strain the entire soup to get out the beans - what a waste! :(

What did i do wrong?

What can i do to save it?

The soup base was gorgeous tho - tried it last night after adding some passata and it tastes better than heinz soup!

I also decided last night to watch the biggest loser USA (sky plus'd it) but i hit the delete button! I was well gutted! So watched Shameless instead - but wasn't the same!

    :wall:

Does anyone know of where i can buy cheap hand weights (not baked bean tins!:rotfl:)?

    Well done to all losers

Hope you are having better days than me!

Extra Easy can take a bit of getting used to, if you've been used to doing red/green days, however, it does I also find they make eating out a whole lot easier, as I can eat relatively 'normally'.

I only know EE and get confused (not difficult I know:o) when I try anything else. I'm out for two meals this coming week. What sort of choices do you make? types of restaurant and meal ideas, if you don't mind?

I can buy fruit and vegetables today as my money has gone into the bank. Probably start eating it before I get to the check out I am feeling so deprived :D

I think you're doing really well to keep on trying when you've had so many problems thrown at you. to hospitals using patients and their visitors as cash cows.

The new consultant was pointing out to me that the non-free food (she called it 'bulk' food) is more important than the free food - what she meant is that people were maybe putting on a 1lb or two and wondering why as they would say they had been really going for it with the fruit and veg but their portions of the bulk food were small and apparently, that isn't the way to do it. You have to make sure it's the 2/3rds to 1/3rd ratio.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it as it might be of interest to some folks (and I hope I've quoted my consultant correctly too!).

Can anyone tell me what SW quiche is? I've heard a lot of folks mention it and I have to try it :)

As I said above, I'm easily confused. Would you just give me a few examples of what the consultant meant by 'bulk foods'. My WI was this morning and I only lost 0.5lb and I thought I'd been doing OK (cooked breakfast DH made us earlier may have been responsible:() so any tweaking I need to do might help.

I had SW mini-quiches made with ham and quark last week, very tasty.

I got a pack of dried soup veg mix (lentils, beans, pulses) and it said to soak overnight THEN boil rapidly for ten minutes then cook for 40 mins......I wonder if because you missed the boiling bit at the start it did something to it???
saying that some of the peas in mine were still a little 'al dente' I believe thats the posh word - I said they were like bullets :o

Hi all, I thought the same about the beans, it could be beacuse you missedthe 10 minutes of boiling. How old are they? The longer they have been kept, the harder they become as they gradually dry out even more and so will need more cooking.

I'm on a green day today. got a stupid meeting all afternoon and we have to meet 15mins early for 'refreshments' which usually includes either sausage rolls, biscuits, cakes, chocolate bars or danish pastries! I always point out that they're meant to look after our HEALTH as well as safety (which they're obsessed with!) but I've yet to see a healthy option!! I've had a nice filling lunch so hopefully I'll be able to resist!! Tea is at mum's tonight and she's under strict instructions that I want lots of veg and not much potato!

    Brekkie - porridge (HEA&B)
    Snack - banana
Lunch - jacket potato, beans, grapes
Tea - shepherd's pie (HEB), veggies

    Have a good day everyone.
  • MrsM, are you around?

I'm thinking of buying the same thingI think you have, a leg magix thigh trainer:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130483540065&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Only thing is, does it fold up to transport or when not in use?

If it doesn't I'm thinking I should invest in something more sensible like a bike or X trainer. If it does and nobody else bids on this lot, happy days :D

    Hi maman,

I think what the consultant was meaning was the foods like meat, pasta, poultry, fish etc - your 2/3rds portion. I hope that makes sense (I hope I have understood what the consultant said - i think I did). :)

    Me again :p
nessie -I always cook my beans completely before sticking in the slow cooker,,, they can be little b*ggers...
Im lucky that out here I can get various tinned beans/lentils in the vergy big tins (and they have "soup herb in) for as little as 39c..much quicker -although I will revert to dried again once back in the UK:p

I also forgot to say THANKYOU majjakk for sponsoring me... thankyou so much

oooh and I also forgot that my lovely mum weighed in at home this week and lost 2lbs :j -she is thrilled as she is unable to do any exercise and is 70 and has decided and I quote "ooohh I can get on with eating like this" ..bless her -she has a very small appetite and as my brother is at home she cooks things they both can eat, and this way its no extra effort.... and best of all she is like me an ex serial WW member -but now she is a convert :T

Nearly missed you skint-slimmer sorry -that does look like mine and mine should have been collapsible, but when it arrived they don't...
the handle slides down but on some the foot plates fold into the middle -its still quite heavy though. I would ask the seller which they have... ooh and I have found its making quite a difference to my bottom half...
    -6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.5
  • Yeah i did miss the boiling part - do you reckon just cooking them for longer would work?

Not very MSE if i have to strain & chuck the beans away!

Thanks for the support too, when I first posted.

the best time to post your food diaries is at the start when you're unsure what you are doing..... then if you are making any mistakes they can easily be spotted ;)

well done on the loss BTW !!!!!
