Re exercise _ I ensure I do between 2 and 4 long walks with the dog at weekends and at least 2 of which include up hill gradients. During the week I work long hours but try to get at least 3 exercise sessions in which is either a Davina DVD, wii your shape etc and 1hog those includes use of some weights. If I am having a bad week, I suffer from neck and head problems which can restrict exercise then I try to walk from my house to train station a few times a week. Any exercise on top of your normal routine will help.

Does anyone have a microwave steamer? A colleague mentioned it to me as I've been microwaving my veg at work. I'm looking for recommendations and advice on how long things take to cook? Thanks!

I think microwaving veg is basically the same as steaming it isn't it?? I used to steam veg in the microwave using a bowl, tbsp water and clingfilm... takes as long as you want - ie. short time if you like ur veg crunchy, long time if you like it soft. sorry if this is not helpful!
Was wondering if anyone can recommend what to cook for Valentines Day? The OH is letting me have free reign of the kitchen. I want to make a special dinner (something SW friendly of course!) I just have no idea!

I am going to do an EE meal of steak (lean) with mushrooms and chips (SW) with a warm salad of baby leaves and green beans. will prob do a dessert but not sure what just yet so hopefully other people will have some good ideas!

  • I bought some Morrison's frozen mashed potato last night (2 bags for £1).

Does anyone else use this? It's really nice (and quick), much better than Smash (which I quite like).

I've not looked at the ingredients though, hoping it's just spud! Then it would be sin free - fingers crossed.

    Anyone know?

I would be suprised if it is free - stuff like that probably has butter or oil and milk in it.

My day was de-railed quite magnificently by a college trip - more specifically, the M&S at the services, were quite against my will I found that, in ascending order of syns, I had a costa cappucino (hea), vegetarian sushi (2), a packet of marshmallow sweets (?? but I gave most of them away), a mini packet of mini chocolate rolls (???) and a minature but still 369 calorie dessert! (it was heaven! :o)

I'm going to stick my fingers in my ears and go lalala about that little blip, and make dinner tonight like there's nothing happened - think that's the best way, no point in beating myself up now or trying to pull right back on syns, when I'd only feel deprived.

    still.... with myself! :o

Sorry to be a pain ladies & gents, but what exercises or activities do you do to help with getting rid of the lbs?

I'm struggling to find the motivation but really want to loose some extra lbs..

    Hi Emsky,

Over the past few weeks i have built up to doing 5 hours of dance a week ballet and contemporary dance. The gym can bore me and i soon give up so i hope that doing something i really enjoy will encourage me to keep going. I also take pilates and the odd gym class eg step etc.

I used to do alot of horseriding but lessons are just far too expensive and just hacking other peoples horses just doesn't help me lose the weight

Im off to weigh in tonight hope i have lost rather than gained this week

No problem. As with everyone, the first step is the hardest. Start with small changes (get off the bus two stops early, or park the car half a mile from your house and walk the rest of the way) and get bigger as you start to feel fitter. You don't have to join a gym - the planet Earth is the best fitness arena we have and it's completely free :)

It's been so nice outside today - I walked from the station to work rather than getting the 'town car' train to town, then I walked back to my connecting station tonight and walked home the long way round the village - I aim to start walking home some nights once it's a bit lighter - 3 miles from work. I just need to get organised and remember to take my trainers and I need to swap my handbag for a rucksack as easier if walking.

I agree the first steps are the hardest - my problem is I don't drive so I get put off getting back home after the gym if I go from work, after 6.30pm trains go to 1 an hour to my village and walking is not safe in the dark.

I have started going to Zumba Monday night - totally love that, might even go Friday night too.

There is a small gym opened at the High School in the village - only £18 a month but is just cardio at the mo so not sure as I like doing weights too.

Once clocks change I shall have no excuses:o

I was going to say the same as BettyB has said - cooking vegetables in the microwave IS steaming them imo. Just a tiny bit of water/stock, cover, and cook. Potatoes or cauliflower for me takes 4 mins, broccoli about 2.5 mins. A spray of Aromat or something adds to the flavour, or a sprinkling of spices. In fact, I often put three or four vegetables in together and cook them all, a meal's worth, in 4 or 5 mins. Not *spit* carrots they take far too long
Morning everyone! Just about to go off and do Day 1 of 30 Day Shred (finally found my DVD after months of looking!).

Was wondering if anyone can recommend what to cook for Valentines Day? The OH is letting me have free reign of the kitchen. I want to make a special dinner (something SW friendly of course!) I just have no idea!
If you have access to SW online, I just spotted they have pages of valentine recipes!

WI for me tonight, and last week's pound gain has come off, so exactly at target again which is nice. Our consultant didn't mention that thing about a supermarket stocking SW ready meals though. Only about something called "Let's beat it together" which got me in a fit of giggles. I must be very rude cos no-one else sniggered :o
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j
