I was planning on meatballs with gnocchi for tea but I'm confused, I'm doing Extra Easy and I've synned the gnocchi (1.5), mozzarella (3.5) and pasta sauce (0.5) but I'm struggling with the meatballs.
They don't appear on the syn calculator and when I try to manually calculate it it says 8 syns for 75gms!.
The ingredients are: Beef 80%, breadcrumb, roast shallots 6%, tomato passata 4% chiili herbs and seasoning.
Does 8 sound right, surely the only things that would be synned are the breadcrumbs and possibliy passata?
Even if 8 is about right can I legitimately reduce due to dry frying and then using kitchen paper to absorb the excess fat or is that cheating?
Apologies for the bad form of quoting my own post but I've checked it again and because beef is the main ingredient it comes out free - yay!
Just thought I would post in case it helps anyone else - might go back for seconds now - only joking"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
Blimey what a day, first I offered to walk the dog as didn't have to be in til 9am. He decides hes gonna eat a rabbit, got very protective of it, growling at me [little sod]. I left him to it as didn't fancy being bitten.
Then go to work [inset day] and its bloody freezing cos the heatings not working, were we sent home? were we heck. Sat through 2 meetings and a dvd with my scarf, coat & gloves on. Hope its fixed tomorrow.
After finally warming up at home son phones to say bus not turned up at college so had to phone hubby to pick him up after work. Normally walk dog to meet son so then had to take him for quick walk [no rabbit this time] in the dark .
Back home to cook tea and breatheeeeeeee. Shattered & ready for bed now.
B - weetabix milk [a] coffee
L - mugshot, sw onion quiche [a], toms, pineapple, melon, onken
T - hm burgers, sw chips, oil [6], egg, spag hoops, toms, roast onion, t/sauce [1]
Snacks - cadbury finger [1.5]
Syns - 8.5
P.S Can someone please tell me which Tesco sausages are the least syns. Thanks in advance. Its not what you do but the way that you do it, thats what get results :T

I think the syns are right, but I'm not sure about dry frying etc. I'd probably do what you say but not really reduce the syns too much because of it.
In future you can make some meatballs for much less syns! I made some lovely SW burgers in the summer that could easily be made into meatballs.
Oh, and passata is free so the only thing is the fatty beef, the breadcrumbs and any oil used.0 -
well I joined SW earlier this evening. Think the real SW plan will start fully tomorrow after a good shop for some uncoated fish etc and extra lean meat and a tonne of fruit and veg.
hopefully this time next week I'll be a little lighter x0 -
does anyone have any breakfast ideas for me?
i am finding that the cereal bar and fruit combo is not really filling me up and i rather fancy hot food in this weather.
something i can make reasonably quicky at home while still half asleep
but here is the problem; due to my ibs i cant have too much bread so am stuck for ideas!!
I like quorn sausages, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms for breakfast. I don't eat eggs, but scrambled eggs done in the microwave with beans and mushrooms would be a good one too.Does anyone have any recipes for dips that are free on EE? My OH loves dips and as we're having a lazy weekend some home made dips with veg sticks would help stop him (and therefore me) reaching for the crisps and chocolate.
Syn free hoummous is really easy to make- blitz chickpeas with lemon juice and fat free fromage frais. Also really nice with roasted onions stirred in as well.
Chickpeas blended with a few dried apricots, a squirt of tomato puree and a pinch of curry powder is also nice and quite low in syns.
Well I was going to join a class today but I've decided not to for now. I still have the books from when I did SW in the summer, so I'm going to go it alone for now and see how I get on. I don't enjoy the classes, and like someone else said I find that it tends to be the same few people chatting away, not really interested in what I had to say or how I had got on.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
I've spent the last few days reading SW threads, and reading up on how the green, red and extra easy plans work. I've changed my mind about 20 times about whether to take the plunge and join SW online or not.........well now I've gone and done it .
So now I am nearly £60 poorer, and about to spend even more on healthy low fat food - so much for money saving :rotfl:.
Seriously, I am glad I have finally done it. I am absolutely terrified (no idea why), but kind of excited at the same time. I now have to go off and decide what's on the menu tomorrow.
My main reason for joining SW is I want to eat more healthily. I'm a very fussy eater but want to experiment a bit. I've had a few health scares recently, and even though I am not hugely overweight (I eat mainly junk food but in small doses!) I know I am going to eat myself into an early grave if I am not careful. This year I will eat like a grown up .0 -

Thanks - where can you get the Sundar one from? I love the stuff but the Sainsbury's one I used to like is something like 11 syns per can! It is very oily though.0 -

This is one reason I love SW - there's nothing you can't have the slimming world (read 'healthy' way) be it fish & chips, bacon cheeseburger & chips, indian, chinese - all made by your fair hands AND you lose weight - bargain!0 -

To be honest, Sammy, I'd still be worried about the beef. Just because it doesn't state "fatty beef" or "quite fatty beef" doesn't mean they took the trouble to cut off the fat before mincing and making it into meatballs. The best way really is to make your own, or I like Asda meatfree meatballs which are very very few syns. As for dry frying, why not make up your sauce first then cook the meatballs in the sauce, save any frying problems. I never realised they were supposed to be fried first
Back from WI and GUESS WHAT - 2.5 lb off!!!:j:j:j oh and we all have to do three episodes of 15 minutes of breathlessness, I mean exercise, this week. I am one pound off my target now:jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j
thank you Slimming World!

Just wait til your clothes don't fit anymore! Slimming is definitely not cheap haha. I've been living in Sainsburys £10 jeans and my oversized tops until I get to target when I'll head out and get lots of new smaller clothes.0
