    Evening all

First day back in work, and I did well :D. I even managed to only have 3 cups of coffee, and I made sure I had half pint of water before the next coffee!

Also went to gym after work, it was rather busy (which I kinda expected). Luckily I finish at 4.30 so am changed and in gym by 4.45 so I miss the proper after work rush!

    Green day:

B - oats (HEB), FF yog, blueberries
L - HM SF leek & potato soup, HB egg
D - SF chickpea dahl, rice, riata (FF yog and cucumber)
Snacks - 2 x clementines, banana, cheese (HEA x 2), kellogs fibre plus (HEB), jelly (0.5syns), LF creme fraiche (1.5syns)
Drinks - coffee, water, NAS squash
Exercise - 45 mins at gym

    Total syns = 2

I should have a few more syns but I am going out for a meal at La Tasca on thursday so want to save them for that.

Does anyone know what the syns are like for veggie food at La Tasca?

    Cheers

    Hi Everyone,

Im a newbie to this website and possibly Slimming World too.
Are you all slimming world members? My friend has shown me her SW books and has shown me what to do. Do I need to join a club in your opinions? I don’t think im too keen in going and also parting with the money, however this is a new year and a new start and im determined to shift some weight.

    Any advice would be great.

    Lois x

As everyone has said, I suggest you go to at least one class - but in fact continuing with the class at £5 a week shouldn't be too difficult price-wise, as if you tot up how much you've previously spent on chocs, sandwiches, coffees out etc it may come to waaaaaay over £5 a week :D Good luck

    Hello all

Ok, as promised, publicly to you all, I am firmly superglued back onto the wagon. (Can you all shift along a bit to make space for me??:))...
Can't remember who, but someone asked about easy brekkies. Waht I have done before is get a "fry up" ready in a take away type box. All precooked the night before - bacon, sausages (beware of syns;)), eggs (scrambled work best), mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans (don't need pre cooking!!) or tinned spaghetti (again, don't pre cook). Then, in the morning, 2 mins round the microwave while kettle is boiling...... bob's your uncle:T!!! (I did this at work and EVERYONE was well jealous!!:D)

Owl, I love you, what a fabulous idea!!!!!

WI for me in an hour ... erm, I've been a tad cavalier with syns the last couple of weeks, so fingers crossed (that crossing-fingers thing DOES make the scales weigh less you know ;) )
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!

    Ladies help!

I was planning on meatballs with gnocchi for tea but I'm confused, I'm doing Extra Easy and I've synned the gnocchi (1.5), mozzarella (3.5) and pasta sauce (0.5) but I'm struggling with the meatballs.

They don't appear on the syn calculator and when I try to manually calculate it it says 8 syns for 75gms!.

The ingredients are: Beef 80%, breadcrumb, roast shallots 6%, tomato passata 4% chiili herbs and seasoning.

Does 8 sound right, surely the only things that would be synned are the breadcrumbs and possibliy passata?

Even if 8 is about right can I legitimately reduce due to dry frying and then using kitchen paper to absorb the excess fat or is that cheating?

What do these taste like? Are they like the quorn sausages? I'm veggie but have never eaten meat so I dislike the 'meaty' texture of the quorn fillets and bits, but I can just about eat the mince and sausages.

My younger DD will eat a bag full of these at a sitting if allowed, but I think they're vile, so it really does depend on the consumer. but like any meatball, they seem to be made up of mince.

Welcome home Dizzy - so glad you have had a lovely, stress-free holiday and it's great news about your magic ear :j.

    Shredded Wheat with hot milk?
    Omlette with ham/cheese/mushrooms
Bacon & eggs, mushrooms & tomato
Can you stand to eat Ready Brek, as it's a different texture to porridge? I love porridge but can't stand it, so you might be the reverse.

If you're doing Extra Easy you've still got to sneak some fruit or superfrees in there somewhere, that's the only thing.

Cereals are lovely with frozen or fresh fruit sprinkled over for breakfast. Omelettes and a 'fry-up' need superfree foods adding to the bacon, eggs, sausages etc, but you're already half way there with the mushrooms and tomatoes. Just make sure that there are sufficient of each to take up at least one third of your plate.

Oh sorry sarymclary, this post wasn't really aimed at you but the original questioner (can't remember who it was).

I assume the answer to this is yes, but do you have to be a SW member to buy the food directory? Or can anyone buy one from SW or a class if not a member?

The Asda one is, and I think the Sundar one is too. I just had the Asda one for tea, added some more spice and some peas to it. yum!

For anyone who wants to get back on track after over-indulging or for newbies who may not think of the finer points, I have a list of items where members have found that they are 'slipping up' and adding syns when they honestly think they've been on plan:

Using heaped instead of level spoonfuls. For instance, flour is 3½ Syns per 20g level tablespoon - a heaped tablespoon is double!

Not trimming/draining off the fat from meat, or removing the skin from chicken - it adds Syns to what could be completely Free and unlimited food!

Pre-frying vegetables for omelettes, chillies or curries etc. Remember, 1 level tablespoon of fat or oil is 6 Syns!

Yorkshire puddings - 3 Syns per ounce! Most are 2 ounces, and remember to include the fat in the roasting pan - this can bump it up to 8 Syns per pud!

Pasta on an Original day - 5 Syns per ounce before cooking, 1½ Syns per ounce after cooking. Beware! Fresh pasta (as opposed to dry) on a Green day may need to be counted as Syns. Check it out!

"Forgotten" regulars, eg a small glass (142ml) of orange juice for breakfast (2½ Syns). Do you write it down?

Sugar or milk in tea or coffee - it really adds up! Beware, vending machine drinks have Syns and takeaway hot drinks are even higher! Eg a skimmed milk Latte can add up to 8 Syns or more!

Buying your sandwiches? Hidden mayo, coleslaw and cream cheese fillings could add as much as 12 Syns!

Using full cream or semi-skimmed milk? Remember, per pint the Syn values are: full cream = 18½ Syns, semi-skimmed = 13 Syns, skimmed = 9½ Syns, and for a dash of milk in a cuppa: 1½ Syns, 1 Syn or ½ Syn respectively.

Eating out? Check for butter on the vegetables or hiding in sauces. If you don't want to count it, just ask for your meal without.

Guessing weights of Healthy Extras or Syns. (An extra ½oz of bran flakes each morning can add an extra 3 Syns each day!)

Thinking that breakfast cereals like Rice Krispies are Healthy Extras – they don’t have enough fibre to be a Healthy Extra, and they’ll add 5½ Syns per 1oz/28g!

Swapping granary or white bread as a Healthy Extra. Just one thin slice can be 4½ Syns – and if you slice your own, that can increase to a whopping 8-10 Syns!

Guessing your milk allowance. A splash of milk in each cup of tea or coffee – ½ Syns each – and on your breakfast cereal – without measuring - could see you adding an extra 3 or more Syns.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

I have sold to non-members in the past, but perhaps you know a member who could get one for you, save any awkwardness.
