no, didn't take no finding
so if a newbie or someone who isn't used to the boards posts a 'reg' you cba's to moving it ?
so it's up to the members/regs on here to do it ?
so found it a bit confusing when you say you always move comps yourself if you see them yourself as this one
#308
was thanked by you early on but not sent to ppd for the regs thread
you say..
"But it comes down to the fact that people want the glory and recognition and thanks of posting them on the main board i suppose as they don't get seen in regulars?"
that's what the debate is all about, it's not the 'glory' or 'recognition' for posting, but the fact that they take the time to find/post the comp for everyone to enter,
& then half of them get 'shunted' off to the 'regs' board before
peeps have chance to see them on main board.
we seem to be losing 'reg' posters most days saying they're not posting anymore
Korky i'm not sure where you're going with that link?
I move comps that i see or get asked to move i don't go through every post/thread and read it all to see if it's monthly so of course will miss some but if i had seen it had said monthly in the thread i would have moved it:)
I apologise if people took offence at the glory part i didn't say everyone but i know there is the odd person that knows there is a regular board but will still post monthly comps on the main board as they want that glory as i said or just can't be bothered to post properly but as i say this is the very few amongst great comp posters:)Darren0 -
You can't say people post on main board instead of regs for the glory and recognition?!?!?!
I'm sure a few might but most do it to contribute, because they enjoy posting and even in some cases for the karma aspect. People just want the comp seen and as many as poss given the opportunity to win.
I didn't do the Advent thread for the glory, I done it as I knew it was a challenge and as a comper i'm up for a challenge.
I often post comps i find on regs that aren't heavily hit and close to end date onto my facebook so it gets more exposure and more get the chance to enter, my facebook is purely 300 odd compers.
I just think when things are actually defined we will actually be able to move forward.
I also set up as a sub for regs, 2 days ago, and not 1 email yet! so that blows that idea out of the window for me.
Hi Toni i'm sorry you took offence in my comments it wasn't directed at you at all knowing you as i do from FB etc so not sure why you took it as a personal attack:(
As i said above it's just a tiny percentage i'm sure there are the tiny few that do it as you say yourself?:)
So in short sorry if people took offence at them comments:(Darren0 -
I know you didn't mean it at me,, I just saw it as unjustified as most don't do it for that, your post above clears that up now though xxxxx

thanks for the answer it was something that had been mentioned earlier
I think people are getting annoyed now because we were promised that discussion would take place over this in the new year and now half way through january this doesnt seem to be happening in an official way so people are still clueless as to whats going on.
the discussion started after people mentioned the regs board was difficult and messy and I offered to look at it, I said let's wait until the new year and continue discussing tidying it up, then I would see if we need to ask the team for any changes
I think also maybe people are upset as I know you say you're just doing what the rules state, but these have not been implemented in as such a strict fashion for a long long time so it does look as if changes are being made without any consultation.
I'm an MSE BG and I implement the rules as they stand, as I've said before the comps board was becoming too much for 3 BGs so they asked for a 4th, which means that more is being done, it's not a change it's just doing more of the moving etc
Personally I am also of the opinion that every comp should be on the main board with links for dailies etc.
and I'm listening to what people saybut MSE is a privately owned site and at the moment there is a board for reg comps so they should be posted there until, or if, that changes

so on to ideas
this is all very basic but.....
if all comps on the main board were single entry with the usual end date format, would that make that board easier to use freeing up a little time to look at a 2nd board. Most of them are, but a lot of the ones that are being moved to regs are single entry with an end date. If a comp e.g glamour is only open for one day then to me it's not regular, it's a single comp.
if all other comps were posted on the regs board then clicking on 'new topic' each day should list the threads so you could see any new comps posted since you last visited? But that takes so much longer for a comp that has a new prize every day
compers who search by date - using advanced search you can select both boards to be searched at the same time bringing up all comps ending that date - I know that compers comping by end date would miss out on multiple entries but how did they find these comps on the main board? was it by 'new topic'? Can you? I search by thread title, and only access one board at a time
I don't know if it's even possible but would having an 'entered button' on every post in a reg thread help? Possibly, but you'd still have to find where you were up to
and would an 'expired' button in there help?
more to follow and thanks if you got this far
I'll freely admit I'm speaking as someone who very rarely strays into the regular board, and even if loads is taken out of the main board, I probably still wouldn't go in there much, but I do think that by just listening to pm's and people who are on here you are alienating the vast majority of compers. I still believe there should be a poll, even if it's just to find out how many people do just main board/ main and a bit of regulars/ regular users of both so that you have a better idea of how many people this actually affects.0 -
Ok, I know that trying to sell/giveaway a prize on the forum is not allowed but I do have a question. I won this, My first win for 10 months, a great start to 2011!
.

Guys, due to possible issues which I would rather not go into (as if I start venting i may never stop!!) I may not be able to go. Has anyone any experience of trying to sell on a prize? Its apparently worth up to 4k and has to be taken by July 1st, I would appreciate any advice. I am pretty fed up as I am very careful never to enter a holiday / short break prize I know I could not use (in fact I only ever enter comps when I really want or need the prize - just think its fairer that way) so this is a real kick in the *****! I would appreciate some advice.Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!0 -
I'm going to find this hard to explain so bear with me x
If on regs there was just Daily, Weekly and Monthly and only those threads left open, so as comps are posted on mainboard they can have a link put into one of those 3 if it falls into daily, weekly or monthly.
All the other threads on regs should fall into one of the above catergories and be linked into the appropriate one. If those posts on regs are left there and no new added , ie no way to post onto regs unless ur linking to D,W or M, or commenting on an exsisting post. people will only have to check the daily , weekly or monthly folder and nought else.
I'm not sure a board could be set up with only 3 open threads or if it would be needed, if all comps were on one board the stickies should be on there too
That would mean a mass clean up of dead posts etc, which i know you are doing at the moment x
I've gone through every thread on regs and some have been rechecked by other members and most comps are still running
So say from that point everything was posted on main board and linked if needed, it should be a solution for everyone as end date peeps will have the link from dailies, weeklies or monthlies to follow, As posted peeps will see it on board as posted and also be able to see it from the D, W or M threads.
Bumping now shouldn't be an issue as if you are comping from end date, you wont see the bumping and likewise if you are comping from thread start time or new you shouldn't be affected by bumping.
It will also make it more clear where to send the comp, as all you need to do is leave a link of the url for the mainboard thread in the appropriate thread if it falls into.
It would solve the issue of comps just posted on the regs and not linked anywhere so unless you trawl through you wouldn't spot it as often happens.

I've kind of missed the whole "regular" board discussion but wanted to chip in my bit after reading back through this thread a bit.
After trying to think of a good reason for this, I am wondering if the weekly/monthly boards were originally meant to be just for those comps that have the same prize and URL and no (or the same) question each time – an example being https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/65797 which is nearly six years old and would still be just one post if it wasn’t for dupes! Other comps that just happen to run weekly or monthly but have different prizes/URLs/questions each time could not be appended to these locked threads – so maybe these comps were meant to go on the main board anyway!
These competitions in regulars with new links and/or prizes and/or answers each time soon build up to be long threads and can contain loads of out of date posts. An example I am familiar with is the “zoo jewellery” competition https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/845167 which currently stands at 85 posts, and posts 2-82 are out of date – if the comp was posted on the main board each month they would have been automatically moved to Game Over.
I totally agree with One-Eye....
In my mind a "regular" competition was one that offered the same (or similar) prize, on a regular basis (i.e. daily/weekly/monthly) or comps that required a one time entry (i.e. sign up to a newsletter) to then be entered into a regular (daily/monthly/weekly) draw e.g. Battery Force. 'Usually' these comps would have the same URL (but not always).
It made sense for some other comps to be linked into the stickies on the regular (such as the instant wins) - but they remain on the main board as they are "one offs" and have an end date (e.g. Barclays footie spin comp)
I think it's odd that WOTV/Nuts etc are now classed as regular. Although you can enter them daily, they have different prizes on offer, with varying end dates....and varying URLS? The only "regular" part about them is the fact they are daily entry. It would make more sense for them to be on the main, and just linked to, on the dailies thread.:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0
