I don't think bhg was meaning your post, more that they were agreeing with what you had said - thats how I read it...

Thanks, I made a bit of a mess with that post tbh! :o Only the first part was supposed to be in reply to grannybiker, and I was supposed to multi-quote with Amilucky's post for the last bit, I've been out today and I'm exhausted now so I'm blaming the exhaustion! :o Sorry for any unintentional offence caused! :o

No-one is asking anyone to summarise in 5 or 10 minutes. This debate has been ongoing in the last 2 years I've been comping. It was debated at length last November over several days, so we've had planty of time to consider the options.

the discussion was postponed due to people saying how busy December/Xmas would be :) so I said 'ok leave until end of Jan, start discussing again and I'll look through everyone's ideas'
when I do I'll come back with some thoughts and see what you think, there are quite a few different opinions (some of which I've had by pm) and I'd like to put them on the thread too

Could there not be a meeting of sorts,
ie: all bgs can be online at an agreed time and listen and partake in a discusssion in a main board thread that is only up for the duration of the discussion,

any compers with q's etc who can't be around when the said discussion takes place can leave the q's in that thread, with it being on main board it will attract more msers, and with all bg's partaking all will be in the know and be able to go away and discuss the points that emerge from that. People could easily see by title of thread that it is a comps board tweak discussion at xx/xx time/date.

It would mean it isn't just you Glad that is dealing with this and getting all the problems etc, it will also reach a broader audience xxxx

This might sound a bit extreme but just an idea xx

    Hi
sounds a good idea :) but BGs aren't obliged to enter into discussions about policy, just to move, merge and report or delete spam/abuse etc
some like to stay in the background and some are more vocal, it's our choice :)
when the discussion started in Nov I pm'd all the BGs who were happy for me to look into the issues surrounding the regs board

just to get back on topic of any possible changes to the comps forum. Is there any way that we could get a Compers Chat sub board added where we could just have general and varied comps gossip threads in. We could then ask questions and hold any chit chat when theres a good comp running on various threads in there, debates, help how do I do type threads, etc....

Whereas at the moment I agree that lots of topics get lost in this thread or in the Inn, iyswim. Also I can see that its hard to keep up with this thread, esp when theres a hot topic or a thread gets merged into it.

Just thought I would throw the idea into the melting pot...
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

"I also am very disappointed that you have no plans to move the debate to a more visible part of the MSE main board where the vast majority of compers don't know anything about the debate in comps discuss and so are unable to express there viewpoint or discuss any changes to the regulars board"
"where has this been said, that it wont ever be moved to a more visable place? why is glad (and the other bgs too) not allowed time to get her thoughts etc together, try and summarize things for everyone? its not something i would like to try and do int he space of 5 or 10mins in a post for the masses who can easily come here and read should they choose to do so, (its sad that so mnay people wont read this thread which under normal circs is full of comping questions by newbies etc imo)"

is rather confusing as AmILucky originally posted on the main boards and it was moved here, so it has actually already been removed from its previous, higher profile position.
No-one is asking anyone to summarise in 5 or 10 minutes. This debate has been ongoing in the last 2 years I've been comping. It was debated at length last November over several days, so we've had planty of time to consider the options.

f/e the thread got moved to here instead of being left on main...as happens with all posts that are not actual comps and thus is appropriate. where has it been said by glad or anyoone else that this discussion will never be posted on main? the assumption that glad, or any bg, has had time to summarise everything form the discussion last year and now and make a post suitable for going on main in an attempt to explain everything to all those who dont read in here so they can see ALL SIDES and not just the one viewpoint that is biased by what one individual wants is imo akin to asking for it to be done in 5 or 10mins. the complaint that it is the new year and its not been done backs that up imo. its the 10th of jan, hardly a few months into the new year when i personally would then be able to understand the impatience and demands for instant happenings.

if the debate has been going on for two years then that makes it clear that SOMETHING needs done, that despite the arguments of if its not broke dont fix it then it clearly does need fixing or it wouldnt have come up over and over again for 2 years.

and not everyone has had plenty of time to consider, as has been pointed out there are many hundreds who dont read this thread so wont have seen all sides of the discussion, only the one side presented by amilucky in his post whihc i found very offensive and belittling and inaccurate. id much rather a fair post was made outlining all the arguments for and against the removal of the reg forum, so everyone can read an unbiased version and make decisions based on those points.

The problem with a poll is that you're NEVER going to get agreement between so many of us who all have ways of doing things and very strong opinions that their way is the right way.
It's the BGs, PPD, Gilla and BHG who will have to do all the work so as long as everything is made clear to us (and properly enforced) I'm sure we''ll get used to any changes soon enough :)

well said beff and so true :)

and the problem with not having a poll and consulting all MSE members is that it will cause bitter resentment when changes are eventually made, we live in a democratic society and I'm sure that most MSE'rs would abide by the majority decision for any changes made to the regulars board rather than just saying these are the changes like it or lump it

people on the Regulars board are just running scared they do not want a poll as they know that the vast majority of MSE compers would like to see the regulars board disbanded this is why the discussion has been hidden away and not taken a more prominent place on the main board where the vast majority of MSE compers can add to the debate and put forward there views on the Regulars board

    as for your
i agree with whomever said before that its sad that this discussion has once again been brought down to a slanging match!
I concur but I have to add that it has been brought down to this level mostly by your high and mighty dictatorial comments and that you and Glad have chosen to make it into a slanging match

and the continual and irritating nitpicking of my comments by glad and ppc on my post's and other peoples post's doesn't help to further the discussion or debate either :(

    quote by Glad
there are many more members than you think who have an opinion on this and are too scared to post here in case they get jumped on (their words not mine)
which is exactly what you and pcl are doing to me now

if you feel that I have called you a liar then by all means go ahead and report my post to abuse but I think you will find that I did not say anything like that in my post I said that it sounded a bit iffy which means doubtful or questionable

I have no ill feeling towards Gilla.who did a fantastic job or towards bhg or pp who are also doing a fantastic job under difficult circumstances which are being made more difficult by this festering and acrimonious debate

the debate has been allowed to go on forever without any furtherance or any real changes being made the responsibility for this lies entirely with Glad who has let the debate deteriorate into meaningless discusssion with the same points being made by the same people over and over again and yet still won't say why the debate can't be moved to a more accessible place on the main board so that the vast majority of MSE compers can discuss changes to the regulars board and make comment

That's a fab idea if it was possible!!! :T :T

There could be a thread in there for each comp that's likely to have lots of replies too (things like big snap and that were/are) and it could be linked in the comp thread so everyone knows where to discuss it! :D
  • .
I have consistently supported keeping a daily / weekly / monthly thread, albeit with an expired button and in a tidier format, (which we now seem to be achieving.) I understand there are different ways of comping and can't see how this apparently simple solution of keeping these, (with links to comps on the main board,) that suits all parties can't be applied.
I too was "Too scared to say anything" for a long time, but I believed I had something positive to contribute. Am now beginning to wish I hadn't bothered as my comments and intentions have been so badly misinterpreted.

dont think that was aimed at you at all gb, like you say you pointed out how nice the discussion had been so far.....which was a fair and accurate point until late last night/today in my opinion.

please do keep joining in and dont go back to being too scared.

isnt that what the regulars board is somewhat for? so threads that need replies can be replied to and bumped without disrupting main board?
  • im speechless! probably for the first and last time in my life.

to those of you who have joined in with the pleasant discussion we had been having before now thank you. some of you ill see around elsewhere, but im bowing out of this, at least for tonight!

    Probably! :rotfl:

I think my brain has given up for tonight! I'm off to enter comps and update the daily list!! :D
