  • Hi, quick question :)

I found a comp today but you have to send in on a specific form (ie postcard no good and no web link) which you can pick up in Boots. Should I still post this and if so, where? I wondered if it was suitable to post in Postal comps as after filling out the right form you either hand in to a member of staff or post.

hiya, not sure as don't think we've a thread for EF's only, think it would be suitable in postals/texts threads as sometimes we in there only have EF's as well :)

  • Hi, can I just ask a question. I very rarely go into regular comps as I am never up to date on the main board, but I notice 3 stickies daily/weekly/monthly and then loads of other threads underneath that. Am I right in assuming that all of those threads are actually in one of the stickies as well, or are they totally different and unrelated? Just want to know before I attempt to find my way round there.
I know there's a lot of 'discussion' going on at the moment, and in my opinion something is only a daily/ weekly /monthly if it is for one prize with one question, the minute it becomes another prize or another question then it's another competition,

they *should* be however if no one has linked the post as a reply inthe appropriate thread or pmed bhg, gilla or ppd respectively then chances are no they are not in one of the threads.
in the same way many many comps on main that are daily etc dont get sent to the thread maintainers so dont get added until one of the people who will notify comes across it, which might be the day before it ends.

Just wondering if everyone has seen the announcement that MSE will be having work done for most of Saturday??? Argh - I for one will be having severe withdrawal.....
    Hi folks,

This coming Saturday, January 15th, we are planning on taking down the Forum for a time to install some new code. This is part of ongoing work and you won't really notice much difference initially.

The work will start mid-morning and while we anticipate being down approximately 8 hours. I'll provide more specific details here later in the week.

My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

If u can open as many comps into tabs as ur puter allows, i'll be doing the monthlies, then put ur lappy to sleep on Friday evening, so when u want to comp on saturday u have all the comps open and all u need to do is click through, if u haven't thanked and clicked entered u can go back when forum is up and click and close x The forum closure wont affect u as ur comps will all already be open x

My lappy allows 150 tabs before it splutters, some allow less, some more, it will give u chance to get some comps done even with forum down xxxxx

Thanks Cheeky chicken for this tip a few years back xxxxx :)

  • I am a member of the CSMA and this month's magazine has a competition to win a new Citroen C4 in it. :j

However, in order to enter the draw you have to introduce a new member who would have to sign up to CSMA membership. Both of us would then be entered into the draw.

I am assuming that this would go against MSE guidelines for posting on the forum? Although it would cost me nothing it would obviously cost the new member the signup fee (£15 I think).

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

yep thats right, pm ppd :) thanks korky.

as for people not doing so, too many people merely ignore the fact that its a regular, or disagree with regualrs so wont send (or point it out these days), or decide its too much hassle to let people know.

ive noticed the same with merge requests. there are a few people who regularly post in a thread that they have or will request a merge, yet many others will have replied in the thread before them, often saying its a dupe and do nothing about it. many more will have thanked. and im still often finding merge requests that havent been done, though hitting by end date its the same comp two posts in a row and frequently one or other has had someone post saying they pmed a merge (but not whom). that has gotten a heap better in recent months though.

lucky for me im going to be driving or otherwise occupied for a good 4 or more hours of saturday :D ill kill the rest of the time with my farmville lol
  • actually, while im here could i please ask would everyone lay of the comments on posts on main about regulars? im getting really sick of seeing such as dont move this to regs its only valid for a week, or i hope this doesnt get hidden in regs before most people have seen it, or all the ive stopped posting them because they get hidden away and its a waste of time to bother posting or similar.

its not going to make any difference, bgs have stated they are going to continue to move threads according to the rules until such times as the deffinition of reg changes (being looked at) or other things are decided (in the process of being sorted). its kinda pointless imo all the sniping and comments, people have had the chance to have there say in the discussions in here, is it really necessary for it to come up repeatedly in comp threads too?
