Competitions Discussion Thread Part 13

just to get back on topic of any possible changes to the comps forum. Is there any way that we could get a Compers Chat sub board added where we could just have general and varied comps gossip threads in. We could then ask questions and hold any chit chat when theres a good comp running on various threads in there, debates, help how do I do type threads, etc....
Whereas at the moment I agree that lots of topics get lost in this thread or in the Inn, iyswim. Also I can see that its hard to keep up with this thread, esp when theres a hot topic or a thread gets merged into it.
Just thought I would throw the idea into the melting pot...
Hi
can you send me a pm about this too please
and I'll look at it over the week and get back to you promiseI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. and the problem with not having a poll and consulting all MSE members is that it will cause bitter resentment when changes are eventually made, we live in a democratic society and I'm sure that most MSE'rs would abide by the majority decision for any changes made to the regulars board rather than just saying these are the changes like it or lump it
people on the Regulars board are just running scared they do not want a poll as they know that the vast majority of MSE compers would like to see the regulars board disbanded this is why the discussion has been hidden away and not taken a more prominent place on the main board where the vast majority of MSE compers can add to the debate and put forward there views on the Regulars board
I cut the quote down or this will be epic in length but that was just so you know roughly what I'm replying to. I would have replied to your earlier reply to my post but I was at work and it was too lengthy to just pop in and make a quick comment.
The post that started all the arguing up again said Glad had been instigating change. Now you are saying about changes eventually being made??
I wholeheartedly agree that we live in a democracy and it would be best if a vote could be taken. But I also think it would just end up in further disagreement and no clear outcome. Or that we would end up asking something of the BGs etc. that was unfair to expect of them (eg it would make even more work than they already do)
I don't know if you class me as a person on the Regulars board or not. I often come out in support of sorting it out because it is not used how it is supposed to be used and that is a HUGE part of why it has "lost it's usefulness" as you put it earlier.
As Glad has said, she hasn't actually making changes yet (other than unlocking locked threads to allow new answers to be given) she is just enforcing the rules. I'm afraid I don't know how to multilink, but from HERE : "Any weekly or monthly comps should be placed on the regular competitions board."
I totally understand what you are saying about using the main board for all comps, as things stood a few months ago that would probably have been what I thought was best too. However having seen the recent changes I really do think once the stickies are back up to date (very well underway) people will start using them again and then perhaps it will work better than you expect having the threads for the regulars out of the way of the "normal" comps?
Maybe it won't work too, but perhaps we should all give it a chance (few months trial??) and then make up our minds based on experience rather than arguing for and against something we have no experience of and upsetting people that work very hard for our benefit in the process?0 -
My head all in bits and I feel that I have let my feelings get the better of me
:o
it was never my intention to upset or offend anyone in this thread and if I have done so then I sincerely apologise,
whether you acccept my apologies is entirely up to you of course you may think that they are insincere but I can assure you that they are not
I have always spoken my mind and will continue to do so even though it quite often gets me into trouble in real life as well as tonight
I have to say though with my hand on my heart that the debate now needs to be moved forward and made more prominent on the main board to further the debate and get the opinion of all compers and not just a select few
maybe abuse will ban me I don't know, to tell you the truth I'm not really bothered as I have more important things to worry about right now in my life and the triviality of the now futile, repetitious and acrimonious discussion in this thread is minuscule compared to the problems that I am facing right now

you have!

thank you for that

theres speaking your mind and being frank while also being prepared to listen to others give their opinion without being nasty. or theres speaking your mind while being bull headed and insisting you are right and others are wrong without even taking a minute to consider their points.

and it will be at some point, trying to force it doesnt get us anywhere nor does it solve anything.

im sorry you have other issues going on, your not the only one who does. thankfully we dont all react in the same ways though or there would be a lot more upset feelings than there are.

I've looked around for the regulations concerning the Regular Boards, but I can't find them. Can someone point me in the right direction, please? I think that, if we all read what the present rules are, particularly the definition of "Regular" it would help the discussion. I didn't realise that there were written rules about the Regulars Board. I assumed that it had just grown
I've been asking myself why I don't venture into the Regulars board and I think it's because it is physically separate from the main board. I think of that area up there as being the "Done and Dusted" section. The comps are Game Over, the prizes won. I think that the Regulars ought to be down here with the rest of the live comps whatever happens to the Boards themselves.0 -
qick question all but how long to wait from being notified of a win to delivery before checking on it?Wins so Far 2010 Teddy Bear

most say allow 28 days for delivery so 28 days minimum. i give longer if there has been something like xmas, or bad weather etc that may have caused delays.0

I don't think there's many rules on the regulars, but the bit I C&Pd last night saying regular comps should be posted in Regulars is from Sticky: PLEASE READ - Posts by the MSE Team and BG's - merged (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/24817) and is from the second post down
I'm not sure there's a definition of regular which I think causes issues as everyone interprets it slightly differently, but moving regular threads to the regular board is the thing that has been causing the most upset recently and Glad and the other BGs have only been following the current (limited) rules by doing that.0 -
This is really all there is? Have I missed a chunk somewhere?
"Any weekly or monthly comps should be placed on the regular competitions board. These will be locked after a month of posting just to archive them. It is nothing more than that. It is nothing personal to the OP."
It doesn't even mention Daily comps! Perhaps we could have the daily Glamour comp back on the Main board again.0
