Competitions Discussion Thread Part 13

from a bystanders point of view
this is why I was so upset because changes where being made right before my eyes with the BG who instigated change and had repeatedly promised that no further changes would be made without the changes being discussed beforehand was literally viewing the comps discuss thread when the changes where being discussed but choose to make no comment on the reg board or main
I was online for about 20 mins only at a friends and only because I knew there would be merge rquests and I worried about not doing them!!!!!
while I now understand that there where mitigating circumstances for the "No Comment" I still think that the fact that Gilla choose to relinquish her dailies stickies thread and changes to the format of the dailies and monthlies thread followed almost immediately and without the apparent consent and knowledge of Glad knowing and also not being able to respond sounds a bit iffy to me
and I'm reporting this comment for calling me a liarI put it to Glad that she knew Gilla was about to relinquish her dailies sticky thread in the New Year and that the thread maintainers had discussed the changes that where about to be made with her, are we honestly supposed to believe that they changed the format of the regulars board stickies without first consulting a BG (I think not)
if Glad did no about the changes then she has broken her promise yet again not to allow any further changes to the Regulars board without consultation and a poll before any more changes are made
BHG has already posted that I didn't know about it ar is she lying too?f
while I feel that the changes made by BHG and PP contribute immensely to the regulars board I still feel that it sends the wrong signals out that they have been allowed by a BG to make changes without the consent of a BG or the comp users on the main board the vast majority of which where not aware that changes where being made to the regulars board and so where not able to discuss the changes or make any commentI'm sorry that you felt hurt by my post Glad and normally I would apologise but on this occasion I feel that there is no need for me to apologise as I feel my comments are justified and I stand by them wholeheartedly with no reservations whatsoever
as Grannybiker has said it's nothing personal and not an attack on you personally but as one whose has contributed to the debate I feel personally let down by you as a BG and like you also feel rather hurt as I also believed you when you said no further changes would be made without consultation and a poll of MSE membersI also believed you when you said that you could bring about changes to the regulars board while this may still be proven to be e true it dosn't bode well that you are now saying that you are not allowed to make changes to the board and need the consent of the senior MSE management team before changes can be made and that it might take some considerable time before changes can be made
and hang on where I find all the times I posted before Xmas saying that changes to the use of a board or removing a subforum would be up to the MSE teamI seem to recall that when changes to the regulars board was initially discussed there was no mention of having to have senior MSE managements approval before changes could be made once again I feel let down by your initial comments and the results afterwards
I also am very disappointed that you have no plans to move the debate to a more visible part of the MSE main board where the vast majority of compers don't know anything about the debate in comps discuss and so are unable to express there viewpoint or discuss any changes to the regulars board
while I'm trawling back I'll also find the posts where I said that if there were to be a poll I'd have to ask the team first, yet because you have posted in here your version of events others have jumped in and assumed I did say there would be one
I also said it would take some time to collate all the ideas and bring them back for more discussion
sorry to everyone else but I work hard on MSE and for the 100th time I've made no real change except move threads to the boards that according to current guidelines they should be on!
I've listened to ideas, answered questions and tried to be here as much as possible but the people who want rid of the regs boards are the ones wanting change and I could have just ignored it all but I didn't, I actually agreed to try and help then get slated for having a faulty router for a weekend!!!!!I am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Could there not be a meeting of sorts,
ie: all bgs can be online at an agreed time and listen and partake in a discusssion in a main board thread that is only up for the duration of the discussion,
any compers with q's etc who can't be around when the said discussion takes place can leave the q's in that thread, with it being on main board it will attract more msers, and with all bg's partaking all will be in the know and be able to go away and discuss the points that emerge from that. People could easily see by title of thread that it is a comps board tweak discussion at xx/xx time/date.
It would mean it isn't just you Glad that is dealing with this and getting all the problems etc, it will also reach a broader audience xxxx
This might sound a bit extreme but just an idea xx#JusticeForGrenfell0 -
Glad, I for one appreciate your efforts. The issues with regular comps needed sorting and it's a lot clearer since you started doing something about it and every time I go back it looks more and more usable (thanks to you and the other BGs moving threads, and also to Gilla, PPD and BHG for their work on the stickies....you all give up a lot of time). What's happening may not be exactly how I'd do things, but I'd rather there was a system than no system
And I agree that at the moment you are really just enforcing rules that are already written down somewhere but generally ignored for whatever reason.
So thanks from me, and sorry you're upset by todays conversation, xx0 -

I really am very sorry you felt that my post had lowered the level, despite my repeated assurances that it wasn't my intention. I even spelt it out very cleary in my thread title. (I'm wondering perhaps if my sometimes formal tone comes across as sarky? This truly isn't the case as I bend over backwards NOT to upset folk here, and in Real Life!) Throughout my posts I have tried really hard to demonstrate a positive attitude towards the changes, and have thanked you with genuine delight at how you've breathed new life into the thread, (Gilla did a cracking job too!)
I even made comments previously about how refreshing it was that we could disagree without taking umbrage, so if my comments have been misconstrued, I apologise.
I have consistently supported keeping a daily / weekly / monthly thread, albeit with an expired button and in a tidier format, (which we now seem to be achieving.) I understand there are different ways of comping and can't see how this apparently simple solution of keeping these, (with links to comps on the main board,) that suits all parties can't be applied.
I too was "Too scared to say anything" for a long time, but I believed I had something positive to contribute. Am now beginning to wish I hadn't bothered as my comments and intentions have been so badly misinterpreted.Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -
The reply to AmIlucky's post....
"I also am very disappointed that you have no plans to move the debate to a more visible part of the MSE main board where the vast majority of compers don't know anything about the debate in comps discuss and so are unable to express there viewpoint or discuss any changes to the regulars board"
"where has this been said, that it wont ever be moved to a more visable place? why is glad (and the other bgs too) not allowed time to get her thoughts etc together, try and summarize things for everyone? its not something i would like to try and do int he space of 5 or 10mins in a post for the masses who can easily come here and read should they choose to do so, (its sad that so mnay people wont read this thread which under normal circs is full of comping questions by newbies etc imo)"
is rather confusing as AmILucky originally posted on the main boards and it was moved here, so it has actually already been removed from its previous, higher profile position.
No-one is asking anyone to summarise in 5 or 10 minutes. This debate has been ongoing in the last 2 years I've been comping. It was debated at length last November over several days, so we've had planty of time to consider the options.Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -

I can remember it being mentioned many times that any changes would have to be run by MSE towers.... But I have always thought and understood that when a fm is kind enough to offer to maintain a sticky that they do that in whichever way will fit in with and is easiest for them. Yes you pm a BG to sticky and unsticky, but I certainly never thought you would get them to proof read you thread for you, iyswim.
I really feel sorry for Gilla, bhg and Glad who have all been mentioned in this discussionm which has gone ott
Ohh, and as far as I can remember, yes a poll was mentioned mostly by us compers and not Glad, who as far as I recall never confirmed it would be able to run as any major changes to both the main and regs board would be have to be approved by MSE towers.
I have worked hard at ploughing through regs now and love the new format daily and monthly threads. This feels like a throwback to all the grief and abuse that happened before the expiry date changes were enforced while the days comps ending threads were running. My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

I have only just started reading this discussion in depth tonight, and I agree wholeheartedly with what beffffff has said above.
I personally appreciate all the hard work, time and effort that the BG's and all the posters of the stickys & regulars put it for us all. We all benefit immensly from their hours of hard work.
I am not exactly sure why a discussion has been turned into a slanging match??? We are all here for the same thing which is to enter comps.
None of us own this board, or have any rights whatsoever to tell others what they should and shouldn't do!0 -

So sorry hun, the part after the first paragraph was just a general reply to the thread and then there was supposed to be a reply to Amilucky's post, I'm a bit all over the place today, I realise now I should have written two messages, one with your quote and Amilucky's quote and one without!
Edit: I don't know what's happened to my quote, but it's not working properly
Edit again: Fixed it, missing [0 -
as a relative newbie (kind of) iam very confused at the debate but i am reading posts trying to understand whats occuring. One thing I do know is I am very thankfull to all compers, posters and especially Board Guides (who if i understand correctly are volunteers) for everyones efforts. I agree with a previous post that nay changes made then people will get used to them and nothing will suit everybody really. Huge thanks to the board guides for your hardwork btw. iam going to try and read back and understand the debate now. xxxxxxxxxxxxx:j First prizes back into comping after a break - romantic break to 2 to Venice/ Paris or Rome with romantic trip and a 42 inch TV and blu Ray amazing !
Thank you all so much and good luck guys and girls xxxxxx0 -

I don't think bhg was meaning your post, more that they were agreeing with what you had said - thats how I read it...My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly
